Milo or Aaron?

I love the name [name]Milo[/name], but [name]Aaron[/name] is my husband’s favorite (of names I’ve suggested to him – he doesn’t come up with any on his own). Since this is our third child, I’m finding it hard to come up with names that don’t sound too similar or drastically different than our first two kids, [name]Liam[/name] [name]Francis[/name] and [name]Esta[/name] [name]Jane[/name]. Also, our last name starts with “S”, so names ending in s are out, as are “er” names (last name ends in ER).

Would you pick [name]Milo[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] S—er, [name]Aaron[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] S----er, or something completely different?

Well, [name]Aaron[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] probably goes better with your other two children, but personally I would go with [name]Milo[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]. The only small issue I have with the name [name]Milo[/name] is that growing up in Australia, [name]Milo[/name] is actually the brand name of a popular childrens chocolate drink so every time most Australians think of [name]Milo[/name], we get the whole chocolate drink association. But for Americans or other nationalities this probably wouldn’t be a problem so [name]Milo[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] would sound quite cute. Good luck:)

Definitely [name]Milo[/name]. Hands down.

I have heard of the drink, though the association doesn’t bother me. Thanks for mentioning it though! I appreciate the advice.

I love both names but I think the spunky [name]Milo[/name] is a better “match” with [name]Liam[/name] and [name]Esta[/name]. [name]Liam[/name] and [name]Aaron[/name] sound a bit similar to my ears.

I prefer [name]Aaron[/name]. Like the double A. I live in [name]Brooklyn[/name], where it seems like every other little boy is named [name]Milo[/name]. [name]Aaron[/name] feels more timeless to me. But I get that [name]Milo[/name] might be more fun. [name]Both[/name] are good names!

[name]How[/name] about [name]Aaron[/name] [name]Milo[/name], as a compromise? Or [name]Milo[/name] [name]Aaron[/name]?

[name]Aaron[/name]! [name]Milo[/name] just doesn’t appeal to me, and I find [name]Aaron[/name] to be the stronger choice and much more timeless.

I like [name]Aaron[/name] [name]Milo[/name] or [name]Aaron[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] best.
I prefer [name]Aaron[/name] because to me it feels more timeless and less trendy than [name]Milo[/name].
Though I do see the appeal in [name]Milo[/name] and [name]Liam[/name] and brothers.

Emmabobemma, thanks for mentioning that you feel you hear the name a lot. I’ve never met a [name]Milo[/name] (I live in the midwest), but my [name]Liam[/name] was born in 2008 and I didn’t know any, and now I feel like I run into little Liams everywhere ([name]Liam[/name] is now #2 in my state!). I don’t want that to happen again, so even though [name]Aaron[/name] is more popular than [name]Milo[/name], it’s been steady for so long I feel like I won’t have to worry about suddenly having two or three Aarons at one play group.

All the responses have been really helpful. Thanks!

I think both work well, though [name]Milo[/name] is hipster-trendy right now while [name]Aaron[/name] is timeless. (I meet many more young [name]Milos[/name] than Aarons in LA, too). However, one other factor could tip the balance-- you mentioned that your husband has always wanted a son named [name]Aaron[/name]. Given that you already have a boy and his name is not [name]Aaron[/name], can I assume that you selected [name]Liam[/name]'s name? What about [name]Esta[/name]'s? If you’ve had a stronger hand in naming in the past, it might be best to let your husband have this one. Or do both-- I think [name]Milo[/name] [name]Aaron[/name] “Seaver” sounds great.

[name]Aaron[/name] is a better choice [name]IMO[/name]. I like [name]Aaron[/name] [name]Milo[/name]…

[name]Milo[/name] is definitely my fave, soft, strong, interesting (and fits beautifully with [name]Esta[/name], another great name). Where I am, [name]Aaron[/name] is a common and dull name, sorry!

Funny, I was about to say the same about [name]Liam[/name] and [name]Milo[/name]!

They are both fantastic names. Though [name]Milo[/name] feels a touch fresher, or more hip, than [name]Aaron[/name] – there’s an undeniable warn appeal to [name]Aaron[/name]. I’ve known a few and they are all fantastic men.

While I very much like [name]Milo[/name], my first thought is always “what’s that short for? It’s gotta be short for something, I just can’t think what…” and so begins the brain-wracking.

I like the suggestion of [name]Aaron[/name] [name]Milo[/name].

I do worry that [name]Liam[/name] and [name]Aaron[/name] might sound too similar. I’m drawn to names with the same soft sound as [name]Liam[/name] (I love the name [name]Ian[/name] but it sounds way too close to [name]Liam[/name]). I’m hoping that [name]Aaron[/name] is different enough. I do like the suggestions of [name]Aaron[/name] [name]Milo[/name].

Thanks for all the replies!
