What are everyone’s opinions on [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] nn [name_u]Minnow[/name_u] for a little girl? [name_f]My[/name_f] bf (not expecting, just daydreaming!!) loves long Greek/Roman names, and I myself have kind of an “Earthy” sounding name, so I adore the nickname [name_u]Minnow[/name_u]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s practical? Would she be made fun of?
Also, what do you think of sisters [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] nn [name_u]Minnow[/name_u] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] nn [name_f]Calla[/name_f]?
i think minerva ‘minnow’ is just lovely! i don’t think she’d be made fun of (minnows aren’t too tease-worthy in my opinion, and i rarely see kids getting made fun of for their names anyway) and i like that it incorporates both your SO’s taste and yours.
and minerva ‘minnow’ & calliope ‘calla’ would make an adorable sibset i love the subtle connections the combos have!
[name_u]Minnow[/name_u] is such an adorable nn for [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]!! my partner has a cat named [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] and they call her [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], which is the more common nn for [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] i believe, but i absolutely love [name_u]Minnow[/name_u] as a nn!
also, [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] are an amazing set. it’s such a cute pairing. the nns are cutesy and fun for kids but the full names are great if they outgrow those nicknames.
I love [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] but I would skip the nn [name_u]Minnow[/name_u]. I wouldn’t want a fish nickname but [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] would be cute. Not sure if this is just me but I think it fits a girl that because of genes, is likely to be a smaller person as in mini.
Oh, just gorgeous! I adore it. Both of them, really! They feel equal parts spunky, wild, and intuitive. They make a lot of sense to me. Logical whilst still so exciting and special.
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] is charming and strong with a great meaning. I feel like [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] is one that people will know, if that makes sense, even if it’s distinctive/bold. Plus, it comes with a variety of nicknames if she doesn’t like [name_u]Minnow[/name_u] - [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_u]Min[/name_u], [name_u]Mina[/name_u], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_f]Mitzi[/name_f]. However, I would say, people might associate it with the wizard books - don’t know if that would bother you or not.
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] are a wonderful set - [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] is cute
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], how gorgeous together!
I personally love [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] nn [name_u]Minnow[/name_u], it reminds me of a girl at school who was [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn Lilypad
As [name_f]Grace[/name_f] says there is a strong pop culture connection, hopefully the multiple nickname options would dilute that (Minnow would definitely put some distance as it’s very distinctive).
@lemonrose Thank you!! Some of the connections were accidental lol, but again thank you!!
@eternally_tomorrow [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] is so cute too!! It definitely makes me think of the mouse, but that’s not necessarily a bad connection to have so
@WhiteGardenia Thank you! I like [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] too, and I am short so there is a definite possibility a daughter of mine could be short as well haha
@snowmaiden Thank you so much!! The way you describe them makes them even more special to me
@Greyblue Oh I didn’t even think of other nicknames!! [name_f]Mia[/name_f] might be a winner, as my partner loves it but wouldn’t use it because of popularity. Also I thought about the books, but it truly doesn’t bother me much
@persephonescrown Thank you!! I really don’t think I mind the pop culture connection, but yeah a nn would definitely help. Also I ADORE Lilypad for Elizabeth!!
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] no [name_u]Minnow[/name_u] is so cute! I love [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] as a sister to [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] “Calla”. [name_f]Calla[/name_f] and [name_u]Minnow[/name_u] is adorable!
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] is good, I’m not personally keen as I don’t like the ‘nerve’ sound in it, but it definitely fits with my general taste. It’s distinct and clunky-cute. I can’t get down with a fishy nickname though - wouldn’t want it for myself, and if schoolmates ever cottoned on to it it’s got so much teasing potential. I don’t think primary school age children would be familiar with the word but older kids might.
I absolutely adore both [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f]! I’m not as enthusiastic about the nicknames. [name_u]Minnow[/name_u], as much as I try to like it, reminds me too much of the fish which is not too attractive. [name_f]Calla[/name_f] has a nice sound, it just isn’t exactly my style. The longer names are perfect, though.
