Mirabeau, Tanaquil, Avonlea

Hello Berries! I want to know the general thoughts and opinions of the names on this list. I would use any of these for a girl, most likely as a middle name but I never know what my SO will like or not. I’ve been really drawn to this offbeat kind of vibe. Can you help me either expand this list or tell me the most usable one in your opinion.

[name]Isabeau[/name]
[name]Delphi[/name]
Avonlea

[name]Mirabeau[/name]- Nice, but will be mistaken for [name]Mirabelle[/name].
[name]Clairette[/name]- Clarinet.
[name]Jonquil[/name]- [name]Don[/name]'t like this one.
[name]Leontyne[/name]- Cute, but there are prettier names on your list.

Favorites: [name]Delphi[/name] & [name]Gemini[/name]

[name]Tanaquil[/name] – honostly? This sounds like some kind of Nyquil product
[name]Isabeau[/name] – love this. I just really love the sound and I think it would be great as a FN
[name]Delphi[/name] – [name]Love[/name] the history of this one and it’s very pretty
Avonlea – I’ve been seeing this one around more, and I think it’s pretty
[name]Cymbeline[/name] – [name]Adore[/name] this even though I know it’s really suppose to be a boys name
[name]Malou[/name] – I don’t like the sound of this one
[name]Gemini[/name] – cute for a middle name but I think strange as a FN
[name]Mirabeau[/name] – Pretty and i’ve never heard it before. I like it
[name]Clairette[/name] – I love it! What a great twist on the old kind of boring [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Jonquil[/name] – this one I just don’t like
[name]Leontyne[/name] – i’m actually considering adding [name]Leontine[/name] to me list with the French pronunciation lay-on-teen

I think the most usable as first names are:

[name]Isabeau[/name]
[name]Delphi[/name]
[name]Clairette[/name]
[name]Leontyne[/name]

[name]Tanaquil[/name] this sounds like a medication to me. [name]Tana[/name] or [name]Tania[/name] or [name]Jonquil[/name] would be nicer
[name]Isabeau[/name] this makes me think of [name]Isabella[/name] but fluffier. It’s [name]Isabella[/name] wearing marabou.
[name]Delphi[/name] cute & different. I like Adelphi too
Avonlea reminds me of the [name]Anne[/name] books & [name]Avon[/name] mailorder beauty products. A pretty sound tho
[name]Cymbeline[/name] sounds like the name of a crystal. Like Citrine.
[name]Malou[/name] I like just plain [name]Lou[/name], but the name intriques me
[name]Gemini[/name] nms
[name]Mirabeau[/name] thinking of fluffy marabou again
[name]Clairette[/name] I prefer [name]Claire[/name] or [name]Etta[/name].
[name]Jonquil[/name] my favorite of the list. Very pretty & very rare.
[name]Leontyne[/name] this is very pretty too. It sounds very regal.

[name]Jonquil[/name]

[name]Tanaquil[/name]- cold medicine
[name]Isabeau[/name]- something you name your dog
[name]Delphi[/name]- very pretty
Avonlea- trying too hard
[name]Cymbeline[/name]- made up
[name]Malou[/name]- just hear “mal” (bad)
[name]Gemini[/name]- not a name for a human
[name]Mirabeau[/name]- dog name
[name]Clairette[/name]- clarinet
[name]Jonquil[/name]- made up

Only like [name]Delphi[/name]
[name]Leontyne[/name]- made up

Thanks for feedback! I love [name]Tanaquil[/name] - I’m sad it’s so closely associated with Nyquil. [name]Jonquil[/name] and [name]Tanaquil[/name] have a literary feeling to me with their ‘quil’ ending. [name]Cymbeline[/name] IS a historically male name but I think it’s %100 suitable for a girl. The citrine refrence is really cool - that’s one of my favorite stones. [name]Clairette[/name] does call to mind the clarinet but that doesn’t bother me. I think it’s kind of musical. I’ve always had a soft spot for [name]Isabeau[/name] and it led me to [name]Mirabeau[/name]. I really really like [name]Mirabeau[/name] but I had never heard of marabou before. I like that a marabou is a type of stork. Is being close to marabou a bad thing? I found [name]Leontyne[/name]/[name]Leontine[/name] while looking up names with nameberry’s supersearch yesterday. I searched names ending with “tine”. I [name]LOVE[/name] the meaning & I’m glad you like it, too, Dantea. It fits so well with the others you like. I’d probably pronounce it differently than you, I think that’s why I personally prefer the tyne spelling :). It has an underused lyrical sparkle to it, doesn’t it? More feedback or suggestions are welcome. Thanks Berries!

nat108 - none of them are made-up but I respect & appreciate your opinion. I have a cat named [name]Brian[/name]. I thought you might find that funny.

[name]Tanaquil[/name] - makes me think of Nyquil or Theraflu type meds
[name]Isabeau[/name] - very pretty and good alternative to [name]Isabel[/name]
[name]Delphi[/name] - not a big fan, [name]Delphine[/name] would be better imo if that’s your style
Avonlea - If you like [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables it makes a neat choice
[name]Cymbeline[/name] - nms but not bad, might remind some people of cymbals
[name]Malou[/name] - too nn-ish for me seems incomplete
[name]Gemini[/name] - not a fan
[name]Mirabeau[/name] - this is a place/masculine name, reminds me of [name]Mirabeau[/name] B. [name]Lamar[/name] so I can’t picture it on a girl
[name]Clairette[/name] - OK
[name]Jonquil[/name] - I like this but I cant see it as a persons name but if you love it I say why not
[name]Leontyne[/name] - [name]Leontine[/name] is the only spelling I like, pretty but nms, prefer [name]Leonie[/name]

I like [name]Isabeau[/name] best

thetxbelle: I love [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables, haha. My middle name is [name]Anne[/name] (with an E!) and I think [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables is the only reason I ever liked my “filler” middle name. While [name]Mirabeau[/name] might be historically male I would only consider it for a girl. Gender bending doesn’t bug me the way it bugs other purist name nerds  I also like [name]Constantine[/name] for a girl, haha. [name]Cymbeline[/name] & cymbals: I kind of like all the musical refrences. Maybe she’ll grow up to be a drummer. [name]Malou[/name] seems nicknamish to me, too, but I feel like it might be super fun, unexpected, and spunky in the middle spot. Especially with a more serious first name ([name]Constance[/name] [name]Malou[/name]?). [name]Delphi[/name] has that same jovial, funky vibe to me. [name]Delphine[/name] takes it somewhere I just don’t like as much, though. Can’t explain it.

I know they aren’t made up but that’s what they sound like to someone who’s not into names like us Berries

[name]Tanaquil[/name] – no comment.
[name]Isabeau[/name] – It’s lovely, but it seems to me it is unfinished.
[name]Delphi[/name] – I had never understood the love for [name]Delphine[/name], so I won’t understand the love for this one. It doesn’t sound like a full name.
Avonlea – Very odd. I kind of like it. It sounds very ancient.
[name]Cymbeline[/name] – A quirky name that’s a guilty pleasure.
[name]Malou[/name] – Reminds me of [name]Lilou[/name], and it’s really quite the same. It’s cute, even adorable, but it doesn’t sound like a full name. It’s very alike to [name]Delphi[/name].
[name]Gemini[/name] – Unexpected. I like the sound of it, but it doesn’t „work“ as a first name. In the middle, it might sound nice.
[name]Mirabeau[/name] – I like this one, but it also sounds unfinished for some reason.
[name]Clairette[/name] – Oh, it sounds „etty“. To me, it isn’t much of a great twist. [name]Clairette[/name] seems as dull and dry as the tired [name]Claire[/name], it doesn’t add any liveliness or flair.
[name]Jonquil[/name] – I love this one. I share your opinion of [name]Jonquil[/name]. It sounds so „literal“ . It’s exceptionally lovely, but my adherence to [name]Jonquil[/name] might stem from bias, though. It reminds me of poetry, songs, flowers, beauty, quills, feathers…
[name]Leontyne[/name] – I prefer the spelling [name]Leontine[/name], but I like this name very much. It’s nice.

[name]Tanaquil[/name] – I should like it more than I do, I do like [name]Thomasin[/name], but [name]Tanaquil[/name] sounds unfortunately pharmaceutical.
[name]Isabeau[/name] – Interesting, but I like many other I names more. Yes, even [name]Isabel[/name].
[name]Delphi[/name] – I love [name]Delphine[/name], [name]Delphi[/name] is good though.
Avonlea – I like [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables but not THAT much. There were names from the series I liked more.
[name]Cymbeline[/name] – Interesting.
[name]Malou[/name] – Sounds somehow half-formed.
[name]Gemini[/name] – Interesting. Hippie. A model of car a friend of mine drives.
[name]Mirabeau[/name] – Prefer this to [name]Isabeau[/name]
[name]Clairette[/name] – Prefer just [name]Claire[/name].
[name]Jonquil[/name] – [name]Love[/name] this.
[name]Leontyne[/name] - [name]Love[/name].

[name]Jonquil[/name] is my favourite, I love that it is an uncommon botanical. They’re such cheery flowers, too. Much more fresh than [name]Lily[/name] or [name]Violet[/name], not as little-girly as [name]Daisy[/name]. I like [name]Leontine[/name] more than [name]Leontyne[/name] but both are good. I would use one of these two.

I love [name]Isabeau[/name]. Very handsome, yet feminine, literary, and gorgeous. Only thing, is some people might think of it being masculine because of the -beau. But if girls can be named [name]Elliot[/name] and [name]Micheal[/name], why not [name]Isabeau[/name]. I have loved this name ever since I have seen “Ladyhawke.” Which is one of my moms favorite movies, so I have heard it a lot and it gets better the more I hear it. Although, I may never use it, I can picture this on someone else little girl.

[name]ISABEAU[/name] and [name]MIRABEAU[/name] are my favourites
[name]GEMINI[/name] is probably most usable, but you may find it being shortened to [name]GEMMA[/name]
other names which i would suggest:
[name]OPAL[/name]
[name]CELESTE[/name]/[name]CELESTIA[/name]
[name]BELLATRIX[/name]
I like the idea of names ending in “[name]BEAU[/name]”, maybe you could apply this concept to other starts of names:
ANNABEAU
AMABEAU
QUINBEAU
ELLIBEAU

I know they are weird; that’s one of the reasons I like them :). I appreciate the feedback even when it’s negative because I want to know which weird ones really gross people out and which ones make them say “Oh that’s nice!”. Does that make sense? More thoughts and suggestions are welcome. Thanks Berries!

[name]Constantine[/name] is actually a girls name, [name]Constantin[/name] is actually the male version so I think [name]Constantine[/name] makes a great choice!

Have you ever heard the song Konstantine by Something Corporate? I’ve loved that name ever since I fell in love with that song in college. It’s an epic love song if you’ve got 9.5 minutes (Konstantine - Something Corporate (Lyrics) - YouTube).

Erm, but the emperor was [name]Constantine[/name]. Like [name]Augustine[/name]. And I’m sure there are others. In French the -ine ending is for girls, sure, but things were not so back in ancient [name]Rome[/name].
