My brother’s name is [name]Mitchell[/name], and as a nickname I started to call him Misch (prn Meesh), which morphed into [name]Mischa[/name]. He actually likes it, and I’m considering adding it to my boys’ list- it would be a great way to honor him. ([name]Mischa[/name] is a nickname of [name]Mikhail[/name]; and [name]Mitchell[/name]'s a variation of [name]Michael[/name], and I think [name]Mischa[/name] makes an unusual but plausible nickname for [name]Mitchell[/name].)
But although it works fine as a pet name for my kid brother, could it actually work as a full name? On a boy? Or is it too feminine? Although it doesn’t rank in the top 1000 for either gender, the similar sounding [name]Sasha[/name] has been hanging around 200-300 for the last several years. Am I over thinking this, or would [name]Mischa[/name] work better as a nickname?

On a side note, I prefer the spelling [name]Mischa[/name] over [name]Misha[/name]- the latter looks more feminine [name]IMO[/name].

My nephew is called [name]Misha[/name] his father is from russia. His name is actually [name]Mikhail[/name] but is always called [name]Misha[/name] I like your spelling better btw

Misha Collins!! Haha :slight_smile: Well, if Sasha can stand on its own, why can’t Misha? They’re both, however, very Russian (aka unfamiliar) and may not go over as well in the States as givens. It may be best to use it as a nn or a middle. I, too, prefer the spelling Mischa.

[name]Mischa[/name] works better as a nickname, especially in the States. If he decides [name]Mischa[/name] is too feminine for him in school and happened to get teased for it, he’d have his given name (perhaps [name]Michael[/name] or [name]Mikhail[/name]) to fall back on. Prefer [name]Mischa[/name] to [name]Misha[/name].

I think [name]Mischa[/name] would only work as a plausible nickname.

I adore [name]Mischa[/name] and [name]Sasha[/name].

I think it’s fine as a given name. [name]Mischa[/name] is a very uncommon name so it’s easier for a boy to carry, as opposed to something like [name]Madison[/name] which is carried by a ridiculous amount of girls.
