[name_m]How[/name_m] do you all feel about mismatched sibling names? Either in length, style, meaning, origin etc?
The reason I ask is because I’m a bit concerned about my top choices and how they would work in a sibset.
I’m pretty set on using [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] for a girl, in honor of a good friend who recently passed away and my top boy choice is [name_m]Otto[/name_m], a family name. [name_f]Do[/name_f] they even work together or is the length and popularity a total mismatch?
I think they sound fine together, but I’m not overly invested in making sibling names match too closely. As long as two names don’t sound like they were selected by completely different people and neither is likely to seem superior to the other, I think the combo will be fine.
And here, you have a connection - both names were previously born by European leaders, thus giving them a greater commonality than many sib-sets can claim.
Ideally the names in a sibset would be complimentary but not matchy. However, I think using your favourite names is more important than having a cohesive sibset. Like for me- [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] is much more modern style-wise than my other favourites (even though sound-wise I think they go together well)- but I’d use it anyway.
I actually think [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] sound fine together! [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is so classic, so universal, and has so many wildly different associations that it goes with almost anything. Same for other “core classic” names like [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_m]William[/name_m], etc.
I think they sound fine together now if your choices were [name_f]NEveah[/name_f] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] I think then you need to find something to bring them together but [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] sound great to me
Honestly, I rhink people ovsess over sibling names way to much. My kids have mismatched names ([name_f]Jade[/name_f] and [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]) and I love them both!
I actually think [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] match really nicely… and just because [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is long doesn’t mean you’d need to use a long boy’s name simply to match! As someone else has said, they both have a kind of aristocratic, European flair.
Also - as an [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] myself, YAY for the s not z
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is [name_m]German[/name_m] in origin (If i remember correctly) and so is [name_m]Otto[/name_m], so the pair works wonderfully actually :). I do hate mismatched names though - on tv just now, there were sisters named [name_u]Lisa[/name_u] and [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]…
I don’ think [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] an [name_m]Otto[/name_m] seem too mismatched. I don’t worry much about sibling names matching but I would try an pick names of a similar style (this is often a wide-ranging term).
