As we try to conceive I’m quite anxious/nervous and working on names calms me and sends good vibes. So unless I’m annoying people by coming up with names/sibsets, I find your opinions very helpful.
I would like to know which of these middle names are most likable/workable:
It would be good if it went with one of these first names but the first names are at LEAST as up in the air as the last names since the middles are for family and the FNs just have to be pleasant to me and my husband and he is vetoing names left, right, and centre.
Firsts possibilities:
[name]Aidan[/name] - yes, I know how popular [name]Aidan[/name] is but this is the traditional spelling and my husband likes it.
[name]Ronan[/name] - Husband really likes it, I am not sure.
[name]Rowan[/name] - Worried about the unisex factor.
[name]Jonathan[/name] - [name]Both[/name] of us like this but its a touch non-descript. Does the “th” sound fight H middle names? We’d use [name]Jonny[/name] or [name]Jonty[/name] as a NN.
[name]Lysander[/name] - current front runner. We’d probably use [name]Sandy[/name] as a NN.
[name]Samson[/name] - I like this, my husband doesn’t.
[name]Isaac[/name] - We both like it okay but say it differently from each other. And husband plans to call him [name]Zac[/name], whereas I think of the nickname for [name]Isaac[/name] being [name]Ike[/name].
[name]Dominic[/name] - We both kind of like it but neither of us loves it at the moment I think.
[name]Zachary[/name]/[name]Zacharias[/name] - I really love [name]Zacharias[/name], my husband thinks [name]Zachary[/name] is “more normal” but since we have a -y ending last name I think it’s not as good?
Aside from [name]Phoenix[/name] as you can see I tend to like short middle names. Our last name is 3 syllables, Irish, starts with M, and ends with an -ee sound.
What middle name would you put with what first name? If you want to use a first name that’s not on the list go ahead but I’d like to use an H or P middle name unless you’re using one as the FN.
I really like [name]Aidan[/name] but only this spelling, its just a shame the other -aden names have come around and possibly ruined a gorgeous name. If the popularity doesn’t bother you then its a great choice. I think [name]Aidan[/name] [name]Heath[/name] sounds pretty cute! Otherise [name]Aidan[/name] [name]Hendrix[/name], [name]Aidan[/name] [name]Henry[/name] would be nice.
[name]Ronan[/name] sounds slightly more masculine than [name]Rowan[/name] but I tend to prefer the softern boys names. I don’t think [name]Rowan[/name] has particularly claimed one gender over the other in the US, from what I can gather, but here in the UK most would say boys name but I am beginning to hear it and more and more on a girl. I think it’s gorgeous on a little boy and [name]Rowan[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name] would be great, or [name]Rowan[/name] [name]Heath[/name].
Not a lover of the name [name]Jonathan[/name] at all, I find it very bland.
[name]Lysander[/name] and [name]Samson[/name] have a similar feel and I could see this two as brothers, both lovely names. I think I prefer [name]Sander[/name] (similar to [name]Xander[/name]) as a nickname over [name]Sandy[/name] which seems girly or more like a dogs name. [name]Lysander[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name] might be a bit too much, but I actually really like it. Otherwise [name]Lysander[/name] [name]Pax[/name] or [name]Lysander[/name] [name]Henry[/name] would be good. [name]Samson[/name] is cute but I dislike the nickname [name]Sam[/name]. [name]Samson[/name] [name]Heath[/name] is gorgeous, really like this combo.
[name]Isaac[/name] is my favourite boys name but if you can’t agree on pronunciation or nickname it’s probably a no go. I’m not keen on any of those middle names with [name]Isaac[/name] either - [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Harrison[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Henry[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] Phineus would be OK combo’s.
I like [name]Dominic[/name] and Zacahary (I am liking [name]Zachariah[/name] lately but not [name]Zacharias[/name]). If you have a last name ending in Y it could sound very rhymey with [name]Zachary[/name] so I prefer [name]Dominic[/name] of thw two. [name]Dominic[/name] [name]Hart[/name] and [name]Dominic[/name] [name]Hale[/name] would be lovely.
Thank you so much, both of you. Clearly I need to have a BUNCH of boys.
sheflieswithherownwings: I’m coming around to [name]Sander[/name], I think you’re right. Though every name here (Australia) tends to get an -y nickname so it’s probably good [name]Sandy[/name] doesn’t make me break out in hives because he could say “I’m [name]Sander[/name]” and get “how ya goin’, [name]Sandy[/name]?”
I’m glad [name]Samson[/name] is getting some love, I like it a lot. Which is funny because I’m not hugely into [name]Samuel[/name].
Yay I have a list now thank you both!
[name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Hale[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it, but is it too [name]Nathan[/name] [name]Hale[/name]?
[name]Lysander[/name] [name]Heath[/name] - I like this one a lot.
[name]Samson[/name] [name]Piers[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name] [name]Hart[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name] [name]Hale[/name]
[name]Aidan[/name] [name]Heath[/name]
[name]Aidan[/name] [name]Hendrix[/name] - Hadn’t thought of [name]Hendrix[/name], will have to think about it, thanks for the food for thought.
[name]Rowan[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name]
[name]Lysander[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name] - bit of a guilty pleasure but I love it.
[name]Lysander[/name] [name]Pax[/name]
[name]Samson[/name] [name]Heath[/name]
The [name]Henry[/name] recommendations were good and I’ve loved [name]Henry[/name] for ages but between the -y ending last name and my husband’s inexplicable hatred of [name]Henry[/name] I think I will have to let it go. Men! (He hates [name]Patrick[/name], too! Argh!)
I think you hit the nail on the head saying none of those middles work with [name]Zacharias[/name]. [name]Do[/name] any of them work flipped the other way? [name]Heath[/name] [name]Zacharias[/name]?
I like Z names but they can be a bit difficult.
Four boys sounds like heaven, don’t think hubby would go for it though.
Of the middle names, my favorites are [name]Heath[/name] and [name]Pax[/name], I love both. I really like [name]Ronan[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name], and I think those two middle names both work with those first names - I wouldn’t worry about the unisex factor much, I think [name]Rowan[/name] is the rare true unisex name and not one that leans more toward the girls.
I am doing the same thing as you! We are going through fertility treatments right now for baby #2. We had to do this for my son too. Searching baby names helps me get through it. It helps me stay optimistic I really like [name]Ronan[/name], [name]Jonathan[/name], [name]Lysander[/name] (nn [name]Sandy[/name] is so cute!) and [name]Isaac[/name] from your list. [name]Jonathan[/name] is a nice solid name. [name]Every[/name] [name]Jonathan[/name] I’ve known has been a great guy. Plus, it can have tons of nick names: [name]Joe[/name], [name]Jon[/name], [name]Nathan[/name], [name]Nat[/name], [name]Nate[/name], [name]Johnny[/name], [name]Natty[/name], etc. I think [name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Phoenix[/name] or [name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Pax[/name] would be interesting. [name]Lysander[/name] [name]Heath[/name] is nice. I also like [name]Lysander[/name] [name]Hart[/name], [name]Ronan[/name] [name]Hale[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Piers[/name]. I think you could really mix and match almost all of the first and middle names. They go together pretty well. My favorites of your middle names are [name]Hart[/name] and [name]Heath[/name], but that is probably just because I like nature names Good luck with TTC! It will be worth it in the end!!
I know [name]Penn[/name] is out (I’m from Pennsylvania so I tried it, lol) because my husband hates [name]Penn[/name] of [name]Penn[/name] and Teller with irrational passion.
Husband just nixed [name]Hume[/name].
I am conflicted on [name]Hugh[/name]. I definitely like it more than [name]Hugo[/name], I know that.
I generally like long first-short middle but I think I’m going to keep [name]Heath[/name] [name]Zacharias[/name] on the list as an exception to the rule.
