Hello berries!
I’m due in 3 weeks and we don’t know whether we’re having a boy or a girl. DH and I are pretty set on the FN [name]Ravenna[/name] for a girl, but we can’t settle on an MN. Our child will have my LN as a 2nd MN, starts with W, 2 syllables, and DH’s LN as the child’s LN, starts with E, 2 syllables.
We have said for a long time that we’d like the first MN to be a family name- one that would be a possible FN if our child decided at some point she didn’t like [name]Ravenna[/name]. Problem is, we don’t love the way [name]Ravenna[/name] flows (or doesn’t flow) with our MN options. Here are names from our family that we’re considering:
I feel like, in an ideal world, the MN would be 1 syllable, since [name]Ravenna[/name] has 3, and then the child will have 2 more 2-syllable names. So as much as I like, for instance, [name]Clementine[/name], I think [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]Clementine[/name] W_ E_ is a mouthful.
Which of the above work with [name]Ravenna[/name]? Or, do you have other names you think would work better?
And, one last question- the child’s 3 grandmothers are named [name]Constance[/name], [name]Karen[/name], and [name]Catherine[/name]. Is there a way to combine those 3 (???) into a nice middle name that would honor all 3 grandmas at once?
I think that [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] could work, if you like alliteration. You could also use [name]Phoebe[/name], which has the -bee ending of [name]Ruby[/name]… Instead of [name]Clementine[/name], you could use [name]Cleo[/name] (or [name]Clio[/name]) - [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]Cleo[/name]? [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]Ingrid[/name] might work… Otherwise, [name]Sigrid[/name] could be a substitute for [name]Ingrid[/name]… [name]Hannah[/name] means “grace”, so you could use [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]Grace[/name], though [name]Grace[/name] is a bit popular as a middle name… [name]Hannelore[/name] would also work as a substitute for [name]Hannah[/name], but that’s also long… [name]Juliet[/name] could work as a substitute for [name]Julia[/name], as would [name]Julie[/name] or even [name]Jules[/name], if [name]Juliet[/name] is too long. You could even use a middle name that only starts with the same letter for all of these family names, like [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]June[/name] for [name]Julia[/name] or [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]Claire[/name] for [name]Clementine[/name], for example.
You could also use [name]Catherine[/name] to honor all three grandmothers, since [name]Karen[/name] is a Danish short form of [name]Katherine[/name], and [name]Catherine[/name] and [name]Constance[/name] share the first initial, C, as well as the N sound and the E ending…
And there’s also [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]Lark[/name] and [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]Wren[/name], but I think that there would be too many bird names in that case…
Thanks for your help. Of my original list, I like [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]Ingrid[/name] and [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] best, although DH is not sold on either.
Among the one-syllable options, I like [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]Jules[/name] and [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]Kate[/name] the best. I think [name]Ravenna[/name] [name]Kate[/name] would also qualify as a tribute to the grandmas.
In mulling over the “how to honor [name]Karen[/name]/[name]Connie[/name]/[name]Catherine[/name] in one MN” question, I’ve also come up w/ the following possibilities:
