Thanks to all your wonderful advice, I’m going for Helena Beatrix. :). I just need a second MN now. Suggestions? So far, I have:
Helena Beatrix Jane
Helena Beatrix Kate
Helena Beatrix Lark
Helena Beatrix Blythe
Helena Beatrix Sybil/Helena Sybil Beatrix
Helena Sophie Beatrix/Helena Beatrix Sophie (is Helena Sofia Beatrix/Helena Beatrix Sofia just TOO much?)
I love [name]Helena[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] and [name]Helena[/name] [name]Daisy[/name]! I also really like the suggestions of [name]Helena[/name] [name]Maple[/name], [name]Helena[/name] [name]Celeste[/name], and [name]Helena[/name] [name]Ivy[/name]!
Thanks, ladies! They’re all nice names, but nothing is really wowing me. @emelis, I had had [name]Helena[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] as a possibility, but I didn’t like it as much as the others.
I might as well just say it–[name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] is the combo. I really love it, and every other combo just pales in comparison, but I’m almost afraid it’s too stately, too [name]Berry[/name]-like, for the rest of my combos. It feels very serious to me, I guess that’s my only hesitation. Then again, [name]Beatrix[/name] seems to make any combo seem a bit serious. Thoughts on [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]? I’ve been tossing around [name]Helena[/name] [name]Sophie[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]/[name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Sophie[/name], [name]Helena[/name] [name]Sybil[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]/[name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Sybil[/name], [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Jane[/name], and [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Kate[/name], although I’m not sure about any of them. [name]How[/name] does it fit with combos like [name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Grace[/name], [name]Arianne[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Kate[/name], [name]Violet[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Wren[/name] [name]Camille[/name], etc.? And how could I add some playfulness to [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]?
I think [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] is very pretty. I don’t think it sounds too serious. You could call her [name]Elena[/name]/[name]Eleni[/name], [name]Hella[/name] or whatever to make it less serious while she’s a little girl.
From your choices, I love [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Jane[/name]. [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Sybil[/name] is great too. Maybe you’d like [name]Cybele[/name] (sib-el-ee). It’s a beautiful Greek name. [name]Cybele[/name] was a goddess of caverns and the [name]Earth[/name] in its primitive state and she’s often associated with [name]Gaia[/name]. I think [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Cybele[/name] is gorgeous!
I know this isn’t what you’re looking for, but I loooooove [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]! Use it!
Seriously though. I don’t think it’s overly stately. [name]Helena[/name] is timeless and elegant. [name]Beatrix[/name] to me is never fusty. The X gives it vim, and I think immediately of [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Potter[/name] and her wonderful drawings of animals. I think it’s a very playful name.
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Magdalene[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Luna[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Clarice[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Serene[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Day[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Laurel[/name]
…No I don’t think any of these are as nice as [name]Beatrix[/name].
While I don’t really like either of the names [name]Helena[/name] or [name]Beatrix[/name](not my style) I really like this combo for you. I think [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Kate[/name] is really a great choice. [name]Kate[/name] is more playful and “modern” than either [name]Helena[/name] or [name]Beatrix[/name] and I think it adds some spunk and playfulness to the combination.
haha, thanks! I’ve really come around to it, I’m almost certain that if I use [name]Helena[/name] over [name]Eleni[/name], I’ll go for [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name], I just need to find the second MN now. I’m really quite partial to [name]Kate[/name], [name]Sybil[/name], and [name]Jane[/name] with [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name], but I’m very much still open to ideas, I don’t know if any of those is “the one” yet.
ETA: [name]Sophie[/name] might be another option–[name]Sofia[/name] is my sister’s “Spanish” name, and while [name]Helena[/name] [name]Sofia[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]/[name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Sofia[/name] is a lot of name, I think [name]Helena[/name] [name]Sophie[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]/[name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Sophie[/name] might be an option.
[name]Beatrix[/name] is a fun name! All of those anthropomorphic animals of Miss [name]Potter[/name]'s plus that cheery -x
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Lark[/name] and [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] add some literal ‘playfulness’ to the name
I think you have full versions for all of the names in your signature, but I really like [name]Helena[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]. [name]Helena[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Fay[/name], [name]Helena[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Eve[/name], [name]Helena[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Helena[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Amity[/name], [name]Helen[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Mercy[/name]?
Interesting. So you’re in a country where second middles are the norm? Or you just favor it yourself? I like [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Jane[/name] and [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Kate[/name]. [name]Kate[/name] feels a little snappier to me, but [name]Jane[/name] is sweet and gives the name a kind of closure. I think the S in [name]Sybil[/name] might slightly steal some of the power from the X in [name]Beatrix[/name], but that’s just nitpicking. All lovely names.
So I see you now share my love for [name]Helena[/name].
Although I strive not to attach myself to any one first and middle name combination, I adore my current surname as a middle name for [name]Helena[/name]. Once it comes time for my husband and I to name a little girl, I truly hope that he’ll love [name]Helena[/name] the way I do and that we can use my maiden name as her middle name. My current surname is also a “B” name.
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] is very nice. While I’m personally not a [name]Beatrice[/name] or [name]Beatrix[/name] fan, I do think [name]Beatrix[/name] is spunky and playful. [name]Beatrice[/name] feels like the serious one of the two. [name]Helena[/name] [name]Sybil[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] would get my vote, as I feel like there should be something between [name]Helena[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name]. [name]Sybil[/name] seems perfect there. [name]Helena[/name] [name]Daisy[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] is a bit more whimsical.
Seeing [name]Helena[/name] in your signature the other day sort of prompted all of this, haha! I have loved it for a seriously long time, but this is the closest I’ve ever come to it being top-10 material!
@maple_blythe - [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]! Argh, I don’t know how I had forgotten that I really loved that combo. [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] honors my sister and grandfather, so the second MN spot that is usually reserved for family can be for something else, and I really love the pairing of [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]. I also like [name]Lark[/name] there–which would happen to honor my grandma, and [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Lark[/name] would honor my grandfather even more!
@emmabobemma - erm, no. I live in the US. But two MNs was a family tradition I’d like to get back to, and the minor inconvenience that two MNs seem to be doesn’t really bother me. Besides, the practice is continuing to grow in popularity. And as I’m planning on adopting, I like that with two MNs, I could use a name I love, a name to honor my family, and still keep his/her name (or a name reflecting his/her birth country).
[name]Just[/name] a quick question for curiosity’s sake- are you saying HEL-en-a or h’[name]LAYN[/name]-a? I say the HEL-en-a version, and have just realised that most of the full names I came up with don’t work terribly well with h’[name]LAYN[/name]-a (not that it matters anyhow!).
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] ____ sounds great with either pronunciation
I like [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Lark[/name].
For your sister: [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Tallulah[/name], [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Tallie[/name], [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Talia[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Kate[/name] or [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] would be my two choices. I love [name]Helena[/name], by the way.
Thanks! I really like [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Lark[/name], too. I like the [name]Tallie[/name] ideas, thanks! If I honored [name]Tallie[/name], though, I think I’m more inclined to use [name]Rue[/name]–her MN and my grandmother’s FN was [name]Ruth[/name], and I like that [name]Rue[/name] adds a bit of je ne sais quoi that [name]Blythe[/name] and [name]Lark[/name] have, as well. Thoughts on [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Rue[/name]?
I also like the idea of [name]Helena[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Iris[/name], and [name]Iris[/name] has some lovely ties to my mom, although I’m not sure it’s too much for one combo?
@kyemsma - I have been thinking about [name]Pearl[/name], too! Although [name]Helena[/name] and [name]Pearl[/name] both honor my one sister, so it seems almost [name]Becca[/name]-overload? [name]Helena[/name] is a form of her MN ([name]Eileen[/name]), and her birthstone is the pearl… Although that might just make it more obvious that [name]Helena[/name] was for her…
