Monet- too uppity?

Considering [name_f]Monet[/name_f] for baby due in 2 weeks.
Is it too yuppy?
My mum is an artist and [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_f]Monet[/name_f] is one of her all time favourite artists. I love his work as well, and love the name [name_f]Monet[/name_f]. I loved [name_u]Monroe[/name_u] too, but a friend of a friend named their daughter [name_u]Monroe[/name_u], so now I’m full time [name_f]Monet[/name_f].
What are your thoughts.
I haven’t even had a chance to throw a combo together, but wanted to get a feel for how she may be perceived!
Thanks!

Very refined and classy sounding name, but I think I would relegate it to middle name status, not because it’s uppity (although it is a little bit) but because it sounds too close to “money”. If it’s her first name that she’s always using to introduce herself, people who aren’t familiar with the artist would be confused or misspell her name “[name_f]Monay[/name_f]”, “[name_f]Mone[/name_f]” etc.

I think it’s a beautiful name and a lovely tribute to your Mum! I don’t think it’s too uppity at all

I think [name_f]Monet[/name_f] is a lovely name for a little girl and I while I understand why you’re worried about it being pretentious, I think unusual names are much more ‘in’ now so you can get away with a lot more. Have you thought about MNs yet?

I have [name_f]Monet[/name_f] on my list, and I find it absolutely stunning and classy. In my accent, [name_f]Monet[/name_f] isn’t close to money, and [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_f]Monet[/name_f] is a fantastic namesake. Not uppity at all. I think it would be especiallt sweet for a [name_f]May[/name_f] baby.
I like the idea of [name_f]Monet[/name_f] [name_f]Catalina[/name_f].

To be honest, I feel that [name_f]Monet[/name_f] is rather pretentious and odd. The first thing that came to mind when I saw [name_f]Monet[/name_f] was a typing error for Money. I feel that it is a name which most people would mispronounce and misspell. Maybe you could use it as a middle name? Or use [name_u]Claude[/name_u] or [name_f]Claudette[/name_f] or [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] to honour [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_f]Monet[/name_f].

I really like it, but after reading the first posters comments I agree that it sounds a little like Money (in a weird accent though).

I like [name_f]Monet[/name_f] a lot (the artist association is a massive draw card indeed), and I don’t think it’s too pretentious at all. I think it can be both elegant & classy as well as fun & quirky, which is not something most names can be at once.

I’m the odd one out in thinking it’s incredibly uppity and pretentious. I might not (silently and inwardly) roll my eyes at you for naming your kid this is you’re an art teacher, successful art collector, or eccentric artist, but for everyone else I’m going to assume the parents are a) trying way too hard and b) extremely stuck up.

I’d go with [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] or [name_f]Claudette[/name_f] or even [name_f]Lily[/name_f] to honor [name_f]Monet[/name_f]. It’s still a great namesake and story, without the shock value.

Sorry, but it does feel pretty pretentious to me. It also (to me) ties a major part of your daughter’s identity to the painter, and of course whether she’ll have much interest in art, let alone appreciation for [name_f]Monet[/name_f] specifically, remains to be seen. I’d use it as a middle name if I were you - [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] [name_f]Monet[/name_f] or [name_f]Zara[/name_f] [name_f]Monet[/name_f], for example, would work. Or I do like the other suggestion of using [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Monet[/name_f].

I like it, but only in the middle name spot. It sounds like money to me (if I switched the emphasis from mon- to -ney). It’s a little pretentious but in the MN spot it makes a great honour to the painter and your mother.
