Monroe---thoughts?

My husband and I were discussing baby boy names today, and he absolutely HATES my number one pick for a first name: [name]Monroe[/name]. He said it’s weird but won’t give much more explanation than that.

I love names that are not common but not odd. In other words, it’s not hard to spell or pronounce, but it isn’t a common first name. Also, this is a family name on my side which I love.

I just wanted to get some oppinions, so what do you think?

I think [name]Monroe[/name] is perfectly fine as a first name. I like that it has a family connection for you. [name]Monroe[/name] has an edgy, cool feel to me- maybe that’s what your husband doesn’t like? Have you tried talking him into using it as a middle name?

I dig [name]Monroe[/name], but I think it’s going the way of girls as a reference to [name]Marilyn[/name] [name]Monroe[/name]. [name]Mariah[/name] [name]Carey[/name] also named her daughter [name]Monroe[/name].

I love [name]Monroe[/name] for a boy, it actually sounds too masculine for a girl to me. The [name]Marilyn[/name] [name]Monroe[/name] reference might be why your husband doesn’t like it.

I prefer it for a girl.

[name]How[/name] about as a mn?

Try to find something you both love! [name]Don[/name]'t worry if it’s not “#1” on your list, just make sure you both really like whatever you choose.

I’m not a big fan of surnames as first names, so it’s not my favorite in the first place. I also think that 99% of the time if someone hears [name]Monroe[/name] they’re going to think [name]Marilyn[/name].

I like [name]Monroe[/name]. I wouldn’t use it as a first name, but that’s just a personal preference. My husband actually suggested this as a middle name for our son. He would have been [name]Asher[/name] [name]Monroe[/name].

[name]Monroe[/name] skews very girl for me… I actually know two female Monroes, one a baby, one a 20-something (but I’m in Hollywood, so take this with a grain of salt… and I’m not sure adult [name]Monroe[/name] was born with that name, she’s an actress and the name change is almost a rite of passage here.)
