Is it weird to use a month name if it’s not the month of birth/it has no familial significance? Thanks!
I don’t think it’s weird, especially if the month name is well established as a name (say, [name_f]April[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_u]June[/name_u] rather than, like, [name_u]February[/name_u] or November). Significance is always a plus, but not a must I’d say.
Totally agree with the above! I’ve heard of quite a few Mays or Junes not born in the actual month. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it was [name_u]January[/name_u], I think it’s still not unusable. I wouldn’t drop the name if I loved it and the baby wasn’t born in that month.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] month names! I divide month names into 2 categories (short and long), because long names I use nn.
[name_u]March[/name_u], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]April[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_u]July[/name_u]
[name_u]October[/name_u] “Toby/Octo/Otto”, [name_u]September[/name_u] “Sept/Ember”, [name_u]November[/name_u] “Nova/Ember”, [name_u]December[/name_u] “Emmie/Ember”, [name_u]January[/name_u] “Jan/Ary/ J(other initial)”, [name_u]February[/name_u] “Bru/Ary/Feb”.
i don’t think so! to me it’s not overly different from any other word name. that said, there are definitely some months i wouldn’t use as first names. i’d put may, june, april, and august in the “firmly usable” category, with july, january, and possibly september as “acceptable reaches.”
A little
I actually think it’s weirder if they are born in that month. Like if their name is [name_f]May[/name_f] and they were born in [name_f]May[/name_f]. That just feels way too literal. I do think it’s cute when it has some kind of significance like a family member birthday or maybe a special month for the couple. But it still works if it has no association at all!
I love month names! I don’t think it’s weird, especially if it’s a more common name like [name_f]April[/name_f] or [name_f]May[/name_f]. I like to use em as honors, like how I use [name_u]November[/name_u] to honor my sister who was born then. I don’t think it’s weird if they’re not born in that month, I thinks it’s slightly odd if they’re actually born then but even then it’s not crazy
I was born in [name_u]November[/name_u] but my middle name is [name_f]Mae[/name_f], it’s an honoring name from a family friend/aunt-like figure named [name_f]May[/name_f].
I agree with you, If a baby was born in [name_f]April[/name_f] and named [name_f]April[/name_f], I’d notice the month theme a lot more then just using month names randomly which I usually just associate with liking the sound/meaning.
No, not at all. Certain months I would say are just silly while others are beautiful
[name_f]Beautiful[/name_f]:
[name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_u]July[/name_u]
[name_f]April[/name_f]
[name_f]May[/name_f]
[name_u]October[/name_u] (as a middle)
[name_u]August[/name_u]
Silly:
[name_u]November[/name_u]
[name_u]September[/name_u]
[name_u]February[/name_u]
[name_u]December[/name_u]
[name_u]January[/name_u] (though I know this is kinda common)
I agree with a few others that I think it’s weird if a baby with a month name was actually born in that month. It just seems like the parents just picked it because they couldn’t think of a name, instead of picking it because they actually like the sound of the name. This is the same reason we decided not to name our [name_u]September[/name_u] baby [name_u]Harvest[/name_u] even though we really love the name!
