I am curious to know which month names you think of as female, regardless of if you like them or not.
To me, [name_u]February[/name_u], [name_f]April[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_u]July[/name_u], [name_u]September[/name_u], and [name_u]October[/name_u] seem female, though the only ones I would use are [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_u]September[/name_u], and [name_u]October[/name_u].
And is there any logic to how we feel about the genders of month names? Are girls’ names springy and summery and boys’ names autumnal and wintry, but if so, why do I see [name_u]August[/name_u] on a boy and [name_u]October[/name_u] on a girl?
For me, [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]April[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_u]July[/name_u] are feminine. Maybe because they’re summery? [name_u]October[/name_u] and [name_u]August[/name_u] feel unisex to me?
January feels more feminine to me because of [name_u]January[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m], although I would like to see it on a boy too! And [name_f]April[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_u]June[/name_u] definitely feel feminine.
November possibly too? I’m not sure I can picture a person of either sex called [name_u]November[/name_u], but the “[name_u]Nova[/name_u]” and “[name_u]Ember[/name_u]” sounds are making me associate this one more with girls.
March, [name_u]July[/name_u] and [name_u]October[/name_u] feel pretty neutral to me. [name_u]August[/name_u] feels masculine. And I can’t really imagine [name_u]February[/name_u], [name_u]September[/name_u] or [name_u]December[/name_u] as names, so I don’t think I get a sense either way! [name_u]October[/name_u] and [name_u]November[/name_u] too, to a certain extent, although I have seen them considered occasionally by Berries, especially [name_u]October[/name_u].
Interesting question! I think for me it’s primarily about the sounds, then associations as a secondary factor, but I don’t think the nature of the seasons/months themselves really come into it
I love [name_u]January[/name_u] for boy bc of [name_u]Janvier[/name_u], [name_m]Januario[/name_m], [name_m]Gennaro[/name_m].
I also love [name_u]Ember[/name_u] for boy. Always looking for strong, soft names for males.
For me, [name_u]January[/name_u], [name_f]April[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_u]July[/name_u], [name_u]September[/name_u] & [name_u]October[/name_u] are girls names. [name_u]August[/name_u] is a boys name. [name_u]March[/name_u] & [name_u]December[/name_u] are completely neutral. [name_u]February[/name_u] & [name_u]November[/name_u] just shouldn’t be used as names (imo).
February is a beautiful word and month (at least in Northern [name_u]California[/name_u] where I live), but yep, it’s not a very usable sounding name for anyone. Maybe a cat.
I agree almost completely with @futuremama - But I see [name_u]June[/name_u] as feminine (but I don’t hate it for a boy)
I adore [name_u]October[/name_u] with nn [name_u]Toby[/name_u] on both a boy or a girl. Also [name_u]August[/name_u] with nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u] for a boy
The obvious [name_f]April[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u] but I love [name_u]January[/name_u], [name_u]July[/name_u], and [name_u]September[/name_u] for girls.
Going against the grain here but I much prefer [name_u]August[/name_u] for a girl.
I think I gender month names based on personal experiences - I’ve met or heard of girls named [name_u]July[/name_u], [name_u]January[/name_u], [name_u]September[/name_u], [name_f]April[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u] and [name_u]November[/name_u], so I see those as girls names?
I think [name_u]November[/name_u] sounds very feminine, as does [name_u]October[/name_u] actually? Definitely [name_f]April[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f] and [name_u]June[/name_u] are girls names, [name_u]August[/name_u] is 100% masculine to me.
I get that [name_u]August[/name_u] is more of a boy name from [name_m]Augustus[/name_m].
March I think is too associated with [name_u]Mars[/name_u] to be a girls name, but not traditional enough to be popular for a boy.
June - [name_f]Juno[/name_f] (goddess)
The others?? I can’t really see the months with -ber endings as names generally. Maybe [name_u]October[/name_u] reminds some parents of boy names like [name_m]Otto[/name_m] or [name_m]Octavius[/name_m]?
I really like [name_u]January[/name_u] for a girl, maybe its the -ry ending
