Moon?

What are your thoughts on the first name Moon for a little girl?

I know someone who goes by [name_u]Moon[/name_u] (their legal name is an Arabic name with a similar sound to Moon) and she wears it well. She’s a teen now and it suits her.

I think it could work

I have a toddler who likes to point out when he’s “mooning” us. I can’t unsee that and in place see it as a usable name

I think it works and is sweet. Certainly might get some cow associations from young children (“moo”) or comments about the moon (children know their moon and sun well in my experience, as they learn about and draw night and day). I don’t think any of that makes [name_u]Moon[/name_u] unusable! :crescent_moon:

I think it depends on the last name and what it is paired with (if a last name contained "But or Butt or Full, for example, I would steer away from [name_u]Moon[/name_u]. I don’t know that [name_u]Moon[/name_u] [name_m]Fuller[/name_m] would be a good idea) but I think otherwise it can be done!

Here are some other lovely options with lunar/night associations:

[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Laila[/name_f]
[name_u]Nyx[/name_u]
[name_f]Nisha[/name_f]
[name_f]Sariya[/name_f]
[name_f]Kamaria[/name_f]
[name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]
[name_f]Selena[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] (personal secret love of mine)
[name_f]Twyla[/name_f]
[name_u]Amaris[/name_u]
[name_f]Ciara[/name_f]
[name_u]Skye[/name_u]
[name_f]Starr[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

I adore it as a middle, it’s definitely braver as a first!

I feel like it would possibly attract some teasing (do kids these days know about [name_u]Moon[/name_u] [name_u]Moon[/name_u]? Probably not tbh). But names are getting more diverse so perhaps it will seem just as ‘namey’ as [name_u]Wren[/name_u] or [name_u]Sage[/name_u], as far as the kids are concerned.

In my mind someone called [name_u]Moon[/name_u] would either be devastatingly cool, like a model or artist, who could just nonchalantly pull it off - or, a quiet, dreamy little girl with her head in the clouds or a book.

If it’s any help I asked my husband if he thinks [name_u]Moon[/name_u] is wearable on a little girl and without hesitating he said yes!

I think it’s difficult because it’s pretty out there. It takes a brave, confident person to wear such a name. I also am hesitant to say it’s usable just because I think the verb “mooning” is pretty ubiquitous and well-known and that could invite unpleasant teasing. Teasing can happen regardless of any name, but this one seems like it could invite a specific unpleasant teasing.

I think it definitely works!! I had a university professor called [name_u]Moon[/name_u], and her name only invoked positive reactions in the class! It’s unique and beautiful.

I think it’s a little out-there, tbh. I love it as a middle though!

I think it could be a brave first. I think theres a youtube couple who has a son named [name_u]Moon[/name_u]. I cant remember what there show is anymore though.

One of my favourite [name_f]English[/name_f] word names, and among the modern ones like [name_u]Moon[/name_u], [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] etc I found [name_u]Moon[/name_u] to be one of the most usable ones. I prefer it as a middle name because it balances classic names but it is so sweet as a first name too. The moon is beautiful and a great thing to be named after- I prefer [name_u]Moon[/name_u] to [name_f]Luna[/name_f] being [name_u]Moon[/name_u] softer. I met a girl of Chinese descent online, whose actual name was [name_u]Moon[/name_u], but maybe it was the Romanisation for something. Still it is so beautiful- use it- 9/10.

I love it as a first! I can’t think of anything really harmful that could come from it. It’s beautiful, simple, and I’d be delighted to see it in use!

I’d absolutely love to meet a [name_u]Moon[/name_u] of any gender! It’s really simple but elegant – overall just a lovely name

I might like it more than [name_f]Luna[/name_f]. Definitely more wearable than say [name_f]Wildflower[/name_f] or [name_f]Hallelujah[/name_f] even though those names are beautiful too. I do think of [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] [name_u]Moon[/name_u] :joy:

I‘m not too fond of it; the sound doesn’t really appeal to me, reminding me of “moo”. There was a creator on YouTube who named their son [name_u]Moon[/name_u], and while I don’t watch them a lot, the name still feels off to me every time I hear it, just not very first-name like.
I do somewhat like it as a middle name, though, where you mainly read it rather than hear it.
