Time Period/Location: 2014 small-town

Brief Plot: Boy and girl meet in coffee shop, fall in love, other character dies, boy leaves, yada yada.

Character 1: BOY!

Character Description: Boy comes off as very outgoing, but it is a mask for him. Inside, he is very deep and in turmoil with himself, but he is also very adventurous and down to earth. For example, he is secretly a really talented writer who performs slam poetry. He is very attractive, in a bohemian sort of way. His family means the world to him, and he takes all the relationships in his life very seriously. This is due to the fact that his dad committed suicide when boy was 14, and now his mother is very sick. He is mature in many ways due to his past, but still has the playful spirit of a boy.

Who named the character: His mom, who is very unique and free-spirited

Immediate Family: Mom’s name is [name_f]Susan[/name_f] (named after black-eyed susan, the flower), sister’s name is [name_f]Lila[/name_f].

Anything else?: He needs a unique, hipster-ish name. I would really love for the name to be either “earthy” or to have a really cool meaning!

Character 2: GIRL! (book is written in her POV)

Character Description: This girl is in a deep emotional hole. She has very recently lost her sister because of a car accident in which girl was at fault. She recently moved to a new city to run from her past, but she still cannot hide from her depression and anxiety. Before the accident, she was a spunky girl with a big heart, but since, she has closed off almost everyone.

Who named the character: She was born as her eccentric grandma (girl’s mom’s mother) was beginning to lose her memory, so girl’s parents allowed the grandma to name her.

Immediate Family: Mom (also named by eccentric grandma): [name_u]Holland[/name_u]. Father: [name_m]Ben[/name_m]. Older brother: [name_m]Otto[/name_m]. Younger sister (deceased):[name_u]Carlyn[/name_u] ([name_f]Carly[/name_f]).

Anything else?: Her name should be 2 (maybe 3) syllables, and should be able to have a cute nickname. It would be great if I could get a name with a cool meaning or backstory as well. The name should not be too common!

For the girl, I think these fit your criteria:
[name_f]Isis[/name_f]: Really long history behind [name_f]Isis[/name_f]. After a bunch of research, I found out that [name_f]Isis[/name_f]’ meaning is possibly “the throne”. That’s pretty damn cool. It has the cute nickname [name_f]Icy[/name_f].
Iset: This is the reconstructed Egyptian form of [name_f]Isis[/name_f]. Pronounced EYE-set, it has the nicknames [name_f]Icy[/name_f], [name_f]Ettie[/name_f], and [name_f]Etta[/name_f].
Monat: Pronounced MOO-nat, this is the simplified form of Muadhnait, and means “little noble one”. It nicknames could be [name_f]Mona[/name_f] and [name_u]Nat[/name_u]/[name_f]Nattie[/name_f].
Koralia: The name of an obscure 4th century saint and martyr from Thrace. It means “coral” and has the nicknames [name_m]Kory[/name_m], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Leelee[/name_f], [name_f]Kora[/name_f], [name_f]Lia[/name_f]/[name_f]Leah[/name_f], and the playful Rally.

For the boy, these probably match up to your request:
[name_m]Webster[/name_m]: Meaning “weaver”, this has lots of literary history and namesakes. It has a hippie cool vibe.
[name_m]Weaver[/name_m]: A more appealing sound and look the [name_m]Webster[/name_m], but just as much history. It also oozes hippie-cool.
Haidar:Means “lion” in Arabic. This was another name of [name_u]Ali[/name_u], the husband of [name_f]Fatimah[/name_f], who was the daughter of the Prophet [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m]. [name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of history. More cool than hippie, I think it still fits.
Ganix: Didn’t make this up. This is the Basque form of [name_m]John[/name_m]. While [name_m]John[/name_m] is somewhat plain, it has such a powerful history. Ganix freshens it up and makes it more distinctive.
Ganzorig: This one also isn’t made up. It’s Mongolian and means “steel courage”; it’s certainly memorable.

thank you all for your help! Going through all of the suggestions and testing them on the characters made me realize that [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is really the best name for the boy. I have yet to decide on the girl!
