More sisters for "Xanthe"

I posted recently about names for a possible sister to [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f], “[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f].” I got some great feedback. [name_m]Just[/name_m] looking for a bit more now that I’ve paired down my list quite a bit.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you find yourself drawn to the more normal and quotidian ([name_f]Melissa[/name_f], [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], [name_f]Viola[/name_f]), the more out-there ([name_f]Sheherazade[/name_f], Dandara, [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f]), or the more traditional “Nameberry” options ([name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Melisande[/name_f]). Why do you like what you like?

Thanks, Berries!

I’ll preface this by saying I love constellation names. I also like a longer name with [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f].

[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f]
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f]
[name_f]Sheherazade[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Sheherazade[/name_f] “[name_f]Zadie[/name_f]” or [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] “[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]” best with [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] “[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]”. it has the same kind of “odd” letter nn. I do like [name_f]Sheherazade[/name_f] more, it’s such a cool name!

[name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] is just perfect with [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f]! [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] and Missia are perfect for sisters. I also really love [name_u]Damaris[/name_u] with [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f].

I tend to prefer very frilly, obscure names that tend to be over the top for other people.

With sister [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f]/[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], I think these are wonderful;

  • [name_f]Alexandrine[/name_f]/[name_u]Sasha[/name_u]. - ‘’[name_f]Sanna[/name_f]‘’ would be my choice for a nickname, but yes maybe it’s a bit close to [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]. This is so… [name_m]Roman[/name_m] feeling, like a whole ancient civilisation tied up in it. Gorgeous.
  • [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f]/Misia/Artia - this is fab because it ties in the ancient Greek with the botanical. [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmi[/name_f] would be cute.
  • [name_u]Damaris[/name_u]/[name_f]Maris[/name_f]/[name_u]Dara[/name_u] - This is just a personal favourite more than anything, I adore it. She sounds so sunny and powerful like [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f]/[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]. [name_f]Maris[/name_f] & [name_u]Dara[/name_u] are just gorgeous ([name_f]Maris[/name_f] is especially a great sister name. [name_f]Mara[/name_f] could work too).
  • Poinsette/[name_f]Zetta[/name_f] - I understand it’s a reference, but have you thought of Poinsettia? Poinsette seems like a reductionist form, it’s as regal a flower name as [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] so I wouldn’t use one full form and one reduced form if you see what I mean. You could always nickname her Poinsette! [name_f]Zetta[/name_f] & [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] are perfect though!
  • [name_f]Saffron[/name_f]/Saphy - gorgeous, works so well because it’s the same amount of exotic and homey. Saphy and [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] are so cute without being matchy.
  • [name_f]Sheherazade[/name_f]/[name_f]Zadie[/name_f] - again this one is just a name I love to see! She is perfectly wild yet sweet with [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] and [name_f]Zadie[/name_f] is recognisable like [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]. This might be the winner for me.
  • [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f]/[name_f]Velma[/name_f]/[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] - I’m down for this one mostly for [name_f]Velma[/name_f] I think. The style is a bit mismatched but it’s not too much of a big deal. I think it’s a great choice.

[name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f], [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], and [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] are my favourites.

[name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] & [name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f] are lovely together if you don’t mind repeated initials.

[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] & [name_f]Cassia[/name_f] are a stunning sibset!

[name_f]Alexandrine[/name_f], “[name_u]Sasha[/name_u]” - [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] IT!! And I love the nn [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] too!
[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], “[name_u]Romy[/name_u]” - I really really want to like [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], but I just don’t find the name that appealing, sorry.
[name_f]Artemisia[/name_f], “Misia” or “[name_m]Artie[/name_m]” - [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]!!
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], full name or “[name_f]Bea[/name_f],” - I really like it.
[name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f], “[name_f]Pia[/name_f]” - I like it, but kinda dislike the story of the queen. If it doesn’t bother you go for it though.
[name_u]Damaris[/name_u], ** “[name_f]Maris[/name_f]” or “[name_u]Dara[/name_u]” - not a fan.
Dandara, ** “[name_u]Dara[/name_u]” - not a fan.
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f], ** full name - I like it, but seems a bit simple next to [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f].
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], “[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]” - lovely.
[name_f]Franzetta[/name_f], ** “[name_f]Zetta[/name_f]” - another name I haven’t heard, lol. I really like it.
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f], ** full name - love to see [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] being considered -and it sounds great with [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] as well.
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f], full name or “[name_f]Minnie[/name_f],” - nice.
[name_f]Melisande[/name_f], ** “[name_f]Lissa[/name_f]” - I really like it.
[name_f]Melissa[/name_f], “[name_f]Lissa[/name_f],” like, but seems a bit too simple next to [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f].
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f], ** full name or “[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]” - gorgeous!
[name_f]Mozelle[/name_f], ** “[name_f]Zella[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]” - not a fan.
[name_f]Nasima[/name_f], full name or possibly “Niecy” ** - never heard of this name before - it’s interesting.
[name_f]Peridot[/name_f], ** “[name_u]Peri[/name_u]” - not a fan.
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f], “[name_u]Peri[/name_u]” or “Seph” - I absolutely adore this. Sounds wonderful with [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] “[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]”.
"Poinsette, “[name_f]Zetta[/name_f]” - not a fan, sorry, I can’t help but see the word poin… point? Only later I think of the flower poinsettia.
Proserpina, “[name_u]Peri[/name_u]” or “[name_f]Pia[/name_f]” - wow, I can’t believe I’ve never thought of [name_u]Peri[/name_u] as a nickname for Proserpina/[name_f]Persephone[/name_f]. It sounds amazing next to [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f].
Prospera - I like this in theory, but I am not sure.
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], ** full name or “[name_f]Roz[/name_f],” - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f], and cute flowery theme.
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f], full name or “Saphy” - lovely.
[name_f]Sheherazade[/name_f], “[name_f]Zadie[/name_f]” - honestly, I can see the appeal, but I am afraid I mispronounce this name. [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] is quite long and complicated, but it’s a well-known flower. [name_f]Sheherazade[/name_f] isn’t nearly as well known, so she’ll definitely face way more problems.
[name_f]Thisbe[/name_f], full name, pet name “Thistle” - I really like it.
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] - I absolutely adore [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] and am even tempted to add it to my own list. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]!
[name_f]Viola[/name_f], full name or “[name_f]Vi[/name_f]” - I absolutely love [name_f]Viola[/name_f], but not sure if it seems too simple or not next to [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f]. Maybe longer middle can just balance it easily though.
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] - I think it’s lovely and would sound great next to [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f].
[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f], “[name_f]Zena[/name_f]” - not a huge fan of [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f], but not against it either. I really adore the nn [name_f]Zena[/name_f] though!

My favourites with [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] are [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], and [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]

With [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f], “[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f].” my faves are [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Saffron[/name_f].

Feeling like I may drop Dandara, [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Melissa[/name_f], [name_f]Mozelle[/name_f], [name_f]Peridot[/name_f], Prospera, and Poinsette from the first name contender slot.

@oliviasarah, I have considered Poinsettia. Not sure I like it as much, and I know many people aren’t sure whether or not to pronounce to the second i. Perhaps keeping Poinsette as a middle name possibility will work better.

With [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f], “[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]” I think you need another long name with a kind of standalone nickname so from your list I like:

[name_f]Alexandrine[/name_f], “[name_u]Sasha[/name_u]” - this has the same familiar yet unusual vibe of [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f], and while the nickname is a lot more common, I think [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] and [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] sound like sisters.

[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], “[name_u]Romy[/name_u]” - personally, I’m not a huge fan of this, but I think that both [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] and [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] are very strong names, that still feel quite feminine. I adore the nickname [name_u]Romy[/name_u], but I think you probably would end up with [name_f]Andie[/name_f] a lot, which does feel a little dated.

[name_f]Artemisia[/name_f], - this is very elegant, and it feels a lot more feminine to me than [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f], but I still feel it works. [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] and [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] work as sisters to me but the nicknames Misia/[name_m]Artie[/name_m] and [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] don’t. Misia is close in sound to Misery so I wouldn’t use that as a nickname. [name_m]Artie[/name_m] is cute, but feels a little insubstantial next to [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Aria[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] would work? They feel more complete to me.

[name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f], “[name_f]Pia[/name_f]” - I’m not usually a fan of matching first initials, but I think because the nicknames have different starts, and I’m assuming would be what were used everyday, the names work.

[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], “[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]” - this is probably my favourite! I think [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] and [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] both have very strong sounds and the nicknames [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] & [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] are adorable together!

[name_f]Hermione[/name_f], - I like [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] with [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] but I think [name_f]Henny[/name_f] is a bit boring as a nickname, and doesn’t really stand up next to [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]. If you used [name_f]Mia[/name_f] (pronounced My-uh) or [name_f]Ione[/name_f] or [name_f]Hera[/name_f] or [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] or [name_u]Hero[/name_u], I think this name would be usable and possibly even my favourite of your options

[name_f]Persephone[/name_f], “[name_u]Peri[/name_u]” - I think [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] and [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] work as sisters. I think [name_u]Peri[/name_u] could just about be [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]'s sister, but Seph feels a little weak next to it. Maybe [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] & Persie or [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] & Peppa would work well?

[name_f]Sheherazade[/name_f], “[name_f]Zadie[/name_f]” - My other favourite! [name_f]Sheherazade[/name_f] works amazingly well with [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f], and I think [name_f]Zadie[/name_f] & [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] are awesome and sassy sisters

I think with [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] you need an unusual, which is why I’ve taken off names like [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] and [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]. I also think the name needs to be reasonably similar in length, which meant names like [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] had to go. I also felt like the name needed to have a “strong” not overly feminine sound, so [name_f]Melisande[/name_f] and [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] went. Also, while [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] is an unusual name, it is a well known word, and so names that were very unfamiliar (Dandara, Proserpina) had to go.

My absolute favourites of your full name/nickname choices would be [name_f]Sheherazade[/name_f], “[name_f]Zadie[/name_f]” and [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], “[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]”, but I think if [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] used a different nickname it would also be up there.

With [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f], I like [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f], [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]. I chose these names partly because they’re all at least three syllables. More importantly, two are constellation names, two are associated with plants, one is related to a gemstone, one is the name of a goddess associated with spring, and the other makes me think of bees and bunnies (and has the letter x in it like [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] does), all of which I think go well with an obvious nature name like [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f].

I think the longer out-there/“Nameberry” choices work best as sister names to [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f]. My favorites:

[name_f]Alexandrine[/name_f] “[name_u]Sasha[/name_u]” - [name_u]Love[/name_u], love, love! But with both names having the “san/xan” sound in them, I would worry about what to name a third.

[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] “[name_u]Romy[/name_u]”

[name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] - Probably my favorite “match” with [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f], but I’m not a fan of Misia and [name_m]Artie[/name_m]. I like [name_f]Aria[/name_f] and [name_f]Missy[/name_f] better.

[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] “[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]”

[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] “[name_u]Peri[/name_u]”

[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] “[name_f]Velma[/name_f]”

[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] “[name_f]Zena[/name_f]” - [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] would be a cute nickname, too!

[name_f]Sheherazade[/name_f] “[name_f]Zadie[/name_f]” - This one I’m a bit on the fence about because [name_f]Sheherazade[/name_f] is really “out-there”, but I think it could work.
