Moses - is it usable?

I love the name [name_m]Moses[/name_m]! It’s definitely usable in my opinion : )

The Name Police! Hmmmm. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry, we don’t issue any tickets – though choosing the wrong name is its own punishment.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Moses[/name_m]! I too have a friend with a now-grownup [name_m]Moses[/name_m] which has been a great name. Culturally it may have been off the table for a long time but that’s changed with the new generation of children freshening up biblical names like [name_u]Noah[/name_u] and [name_m]Solomon[/name_m].

It’s not really like [name_m]Jesus[/name_m], which culturally is not used in the US outside the Hispanic community.

[name_m]Moses[/name_m] and [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] are pure perfection together, thank you for the suggestion.

Thanks everyone for your opinions (especially [name_f]Pam[/name_f]; it’s nice to know that the name is on the list of approval  ).

[name_m]Jesus[/name_m] is a pretty common name in Spanish speaking countries and among the Spanish speaking population in the US. It certainly isn’t blasphemous. Naming your child [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] is nothing like naming your child God.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Moses[/name_m]! it’s definitely a wearable name  it does have some strong biblical connections, but so do heaps of other well used names… [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]… Great choice

Also, it just happens to be my fur-babies name!

I really like [name_m]Moses[/name_m] [name_u]Carlisle[/name_u]. My 2nd pick from your list is definitely [name_m]Moses[/name_m] [name_m]Irving[/name_m] And I too, agree that Moses and Reuben are adorable as siblings…

I totally agree with this and actually really love the name [name_m]Moses[/name_m]. I wish it were used as often as these other Biblical names.
Also, I heard [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] Paltrow refer to her son [name_m]Moses[/name_m] as “MoMo” one time in an interview and thought that was totally cute.

[name_m]Moses[/name_m] as a name really irks me. It just sounds so old, awkward, boring, daunting, and undeniably [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. I’m all for naming your baby a name that means something in your religion or is a prominent figure in your religion, so long as the only association with the name isn’t religion. Examples: [name_m]Luke[/name_m], [name_m]Zachary[/name_m], [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], ect. But, [name_m]Moses[/name_m] is too much for a child to bear.

Plus, you have to understand that your child may not end up sharing your religious beliefs as they get older. It will be quite awkward when [name_m]Moses[/name_m] says he’s an Atheist or Buddhist or something.

[name_m]Moses[/name_m] is the English form of [name_m]Moshe[/name_m], which is frequently used in the Jewish community, particularly by the Chasidic Jews. [name_m]Moses[/name_m] is definitely usable as a first name. Re siblings, a sister could be named [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], [name_f]Sarai[/name_f], [name_f]Channah[/name_f], [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], [name_f]Tamar[/name_f], or [name_f]Naomi[/name_f].

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

I’m not very religious. I do love the bible story of [name_m]Moses[/name_m], but I mostly love the name for its soft, but masculine sound. Wouldn’t it be equally awkward with a non-religious [name_m]Muhammed[/name_m] or [name_m]Abraham[/name_m]? I know a Jesús who is a very happy Atheist, and I don’t find it awkward, but to each their own. Thank you for your opinion

Yes! Great name.

Anyone else?

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it.
I’m also swooning over the [name_m]Moses[/name_m], [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] sibset. But I think it could make a super cute combo too: [name_m]Moses[/name_m] [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] Lastname. I don’t think that you are limited with the names that you can pair with it for siblings or middles. They don’t have to be old or classic or biblical, just favorites of yours.
I agree that it is a very attractive soft yet masculine name. I do think that I would expect you to be [name_m]Christian[/name_m], but I wouldn’t be put off if you aren’t. A lot of names that are in the bible are also used by non Christians such as [name_m]Joshua[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_m]Luke[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m].

I personally think [name_m]Moses[/name_m] is useable. I also don’t believe you have to be [name_m]Christian[/name_m] or Jewish to use it. However, I think some people would assume that you are [name_m]Christian[/name_m] or Jewish. And I don’t believe you should worry about a child’s future religious choices. If he becomes a Buddhist or atheist with the name [name_m]Moses[/name_m], I don’t think would be a huge deal.

I can’t believe that I missed all these great suggestions. I really like [name_m]Moses[/name_m] [name_m]Evander[/name_m], [name_m]Moses[/name_m] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m], and [name_m]Moses[/name_m] [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] (I have [name_u]August[/name_u] on my list as an honour name, but I really like [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] with [name_m]Moses[/name_m]!). Thank you very much!

Oh, and I think you should totally go for [name_m]Moses[/name_m] I’m surprised at how positive the feedback to it has been.

[name_m]Moses[/name_m] [name_m]Augustin[/name_m] is very cool, now that you brought it up, daphodil!

I also REALLY liked your signature when I saw it: [name_m]Moses[/name_m] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] (especially that pronunciation). They fit together extremely well! [name_m]How[/name_m] uniquely unexpected yet pleasantly familiar. You really have quite a nice, balanced style  awesome

Thank you so much for that lovely, unexpected compliment; it really made my day  I love [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] from your signature – they are both guilty pleasures of mine!

Thanks for the positive comments, glad to know I’ve helped! reading this thread has definitely bumped [name_m]Moses[/name_m] up my list, probably in the combo [name_m]Moses[/name_m] [name_u]Carlisle[/name_u] or [name_m]Moses[/name_m] [name_m]Irving[/name_m]

Haha, seems like we’re tag teaming today in the forums
