Most hipster names anyone can think of

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!

My friends are finally pregnant after years of trying so a bunch of us are throwing them a surprise party to celebrate. They are very hipster (even if they might not admit it haha) so we thought we’d get lists of the most hipster baby names anyone can think of. We will add the lists in a “baby manual” we wrote for them. It would be awesome if you guys could help come up with names. Thanks in advance!

I will start another thread in the boys’ section, this one is for girl names.

Ohhhh basically anything old and clunky:

[name_f]Gladys[/name_f]
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f]
[name_f]Maude[/name_f]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Delores[/name_f]
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Muriel[/name_f]
Astor

Nature names! [name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_m]Forrest[/name_m], [name_u]Everest[/name_u], etc.

[name_m]Kafka[/name_m], [name_m]Bobo[/name_m], [name_f]Guevara[/name_f], [name_m]Bowie[/name_m].

or something like [name_f]Susan[/name_f] and [name_m]Rodney[/name_m] haha.

I know two hipster boys called Robb1e and W3bb. And another hipster sibset called [name_u]Jay[/name_u] and Patr1cia.

So many names can be hipster with hipster parents. I knew hipster parents who named their daughter [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and I was shocked by how conventional it felt, but then when you put her in skinny baby jeans and converse it all of a sudden made total sense to me. Also depends how urban they are and where they’re from, since some names seem really hipster in urbe and then once transplanted to the suburbs or another region they feel conventional or classic and visa versa. And then there are names just reaching widespread popularity that are already passé in the hipster world… like [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], which feel so 2010 (I still love them!), and 7 years is forever in hipsterland.

I love your idea for a gift for your friend.

Are hipster names supposed to be original, uncommon, etc.?

I think it has to do with feeling counter-culture, so uncool you’re cool (but still cool enough to be cool), before the trend but trendy at the same time… it’s hard to pin down. Originality and uncommonness count, but it has to have a certain feel…

I find it helpful to Google Image search hipster babies and name the pictures.

I find it hard to define what exactly constitutes a “hipster” name. Most of the names suggested easily fit into the categories “unusual”, “rare,” “mythological,” “vintage,” “nature” and “word” names.

I remember there was a book about hipster baby names a few years ago and one name in it was [name_m]Zero[/name_m].

Literary names like [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and [name_u]Harper[/name_u]

Old lady names like:
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Maude[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
Almost anything ending in -line ([name_f]Coraline[/name_f])
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
