When the baby needs to be fed, the baby needs to be fed and sometimes nothing works like breastfeeding.
Thought it would be fun to share the unusual, crazy places we have nursed.
One peculiar instance that sticks in my mind was a family trip to Niagara Falls. I was trying to still do all the fun events with our other children and the Maid of the Mist boat tour was planned. I ended up sitting on the soaked floor of the boat’s belcony wearing one of those ridiculous disposable rain coats, being pelted from the water fall between swarms of people nursing. Certainly memorable haha!
My dad’s youngest sister lived in [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] when her kids were little. She used to breastfeed her 2nd while driving a fishing boat, where her daughter (2 or 3 y.o.) was a passenger; I am sure she (her daughter) was wearing a life jacket but OMG. I think somehow there may have even been some amount of fishing involved at the same time, but that may have been an embellishment.
My aunt and uncle still live there in the summer, and we went to visit when our oldest was about 10-11 months and I was very pregnant with our 2nd. I was kind of freaking out because he ([name_u]James[/name_u]) was crawling/cruising around the floor of the boat, which was covered in fish guts, and it was getting all over his blue knit sweater from the Gap. Was also miserable due to there being bears everywhere! I am not cut out for that kind of life or multitasking in the wild with little kids. It’s all about the suburbs for me.
I can think of 3 times I breastfed while hiking. For each of those times, either we were not at a good place to stop, or else I felt bad making the whole group stop while I breastfed, so it was easier to figure out how to do it while carrying the baby.
At another point, I breastfed while sitting on a couch in a Goodwill furniture department. (I did feel slightly bad about that, but she was not going to be calmed any other way.
The last odd place I recall was sitting in a photo booth at the zoo. We weren’t taking photos, I just needed an out of the way place to let her nurse and that was what I found.
Coolest place so far was on the Cliffs of Moher in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f]. It was just after her first birthday and I sort of felt like I was the queen of the world, after making it a whole year nursing, and then combined with staring out at this amazing view, it was a super powerful experience for me as a mom.
