I have until [name_u]November[/name_u] before the baby comes, but the lack of progress my husband and I have made in the name department is making me nervous. We don’t know the gender, but I have a strong feeling its a girl and of course girls names (as much fun as they are) are not where we share much common ground. [name_m]Both[/name_m] of our styles are all over the place- we just like names for the names, not for the category they fall into.
Some of the names that we could maybe both be on board with (some his pics, some mine…)
Very different styles in one list, I know. But I would love whatever thoughts you can give me. List your favorites, tell me what you think of each, add new suggestions, whatever you can do:cool:
Some names of his that I do not like:
[name_u]Skylar[/name_u]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] (like it but not for our family, I don’t know)
[name_u]Shay[/name_u]
Some names of mine that he does not like:
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
(To be honest, he isn’t crazy about some of the ones I listed above, but for now, I’m dreaming).
Other info- we have a 3 syllable “Mc” last name. Brother is [name_u]Mason[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] and sister is [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. (I don’t want to label my style as modern because of the other children’s names, but I would like a name that compliments them).
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and jocelyn immediately stood out to me. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are lovely and lend themselves to a multitude of nn choices.
All your hubby’s choices which you are not keen on seem to have a ‘y’ in them as well so he might like these 2 best?
Having the ‘n’ sound on the end of these 2 also sounds good in relation to your other 2 kidlets names who feature the use of n in one syllable.
[name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f].
[name_m]Both[/name_m] combinations sound good - connectivity, flow but difference/individuality.
[name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. From your list, I like [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] and [name_f]Natalie[/name_f]. Perhaps [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] or [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u].
Thank you cdm! Agree with you… both names I can see being top contenders. Our only [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] issue is that we prefer the 2 syllable pronunciation (but don’t hate it with 3). And [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] is more old fashioned that my husband’s general taste, but he’s coming around to it.
Any other thoughts out there? Would love to hear em
love love love [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] or [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] for you! I think [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_f]Brenna[/name_f], and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]/[name_u]Darcy[/name_u] is adorable! I think [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], or [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] would be great too though.
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]- can’t go wrong with this one! Beautiful classic choice with adorable nickname options
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]- I like [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] but think it’s a little mismatched with your other kids’ names, imo.
[name_f]Vanessa[/name_f]- Not my style, but a nice name.
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f]-Can’t go wrong, though it does feel a little dated
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f]- love it!
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u]- Not my style
[name_f]Summer[/name_f]- Cute
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f]- [name_f]Love[/name_f] it! Another one you can’t go wrong with
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f] - not really sure on pronunciation
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]- Ok
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]- [name_m]Favorite[/name_m]
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]- [name_f]Love[/name_f] this one!
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]- Not my style.
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]- pretty but I don’t feel it flows with [name_u]Mason[/name_u] and [name_f]Brenna[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]- [name_f]Love[/name_f] it and the nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f]
[name_f]Vanessa[/name_f]- eh
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f]- nice but not fantastic
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f]- good I think the -lyn ending goes well with [name_u]Mason[/name_u] and [name_f]Brenna[/name_f]
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u]- Very unique
[name_f]Summer[/name_f]- cute but I find it strange to name an autumn baby [name_f]Summer[/name_f]
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f]- nms but works with siblings
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f] - good - matches the double n in [name_f]Brenna[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]- nice
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]- can’t separate this one from the glee character
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]- I prefer the [name_u]Darcey[/name_u] spelling for a girl - love
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]- good for a nn but not for a full name
My favorites from the first list are [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f], [name_f]Rachel[/name_f], [name_f]Summer[/name_f], [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u].
Not really a fan of [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f]. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know how to pronounce [name_u]Sloane[/name_u]. I like [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] too. I find [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] and [name_f]Nina[/name_f] ok. These are just my opinions though.
[name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] and [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] sounds positively darling to me. I don’t exactly know why but I like it a lot.
You said that you aren’t into the entire matching of names, and that’s perfectly alright, but I’m sure part of the reason I like [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] with your other childrens’ names it because its a two syllable like theirs. [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] or [name_u]Sloane[/name_u] could be cute too, because they’re one syllable and avoid too much matching. (Also because they can double as boys names, in case it turns out to be a little man in there I hope this helps, and good luck on the rest of your naming!
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is my pick. The others are lovely, but [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] seems to be the lovliest and goes well with her sib names and last name. Best Wishes!
I love [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] off of your list - [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] makes a great combo, and sounds perfect with siblings [name_u]Mason[/name_u] and [name_f]Brenna[/name_f].
Thanks everybody! [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] is one name I probably should have included in my husbands veto list. He didn’t say absolutely no to it but I know he’s not crazy about it. I very much am though! I want us to both love the name bug I’m not ready to five up [name_u]Darcy[/name_u]… Maybe he’ll come around You’re selling me on some of the rest, though, so keep it up!
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Corinne[/name_f], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f] are the ones I like from your lists. My [name_m]Favorite[/name_m] would be [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] or [name_f]Nora[/name_f]. I don’t think [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] or [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f], really fit with the sibling names at all.
I like [name_u]Mason[/name_u] [name_f]Brenna[/name_f] and [name_f]Summer[/name_f] best. But I’m partial to word-names, and I’m not at ALL opposed to naming a baby a season (or other (month);)) that doesn’t match.
I like [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] the best. I think it works great with your kids already. It’s not trendy or dated and I have only met one woman with the name.
I love [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]!!! [name_m]Both[/name_m] are lovely, underused without being odd and transition from baby to lady with ease!
Most importantly, both work well with a Mc last name
If you like [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] pronounced with two syllables, what about Jasleen? Another name that immediately came to mind was [name_f]Gracelyn[/name_f].
My opinion on the list:
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] - love
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] - increasing in popularity
[name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] - dated
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f] - meh
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] - not my taste
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u] - gender ambiguous
[name_f]Summer[/name_f] - too cutesy
[name_f]Valerie[/name_f] - like it, but not with the sibs
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f] - is it Core-een or Core-in? I have heard both.
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] - I know too many snotty ones to like it
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u] - works well with the sibs
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u] - dated in a not so good way
[name_f]Nina[/name_f] - cute, not my style, but works well with the other names
[name_u]Skylar[/name_u] - don’t like it at all for boy or girl
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] - dated
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - doesn’t match the style of the other names
[name_u]Shay[/name_u] - what about Shaylynn? Then it blends better with the other two
Some names of mine that he does not like:
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
I like [name_u]Darcy[/name_u] and [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] best with [name_u]Mason[/name_u] and [name_f]Brenna[/name_f], though both [name_u]Mason[/name_u] and [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] have a similar ending.
