I graduated from high school on [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f] night, here’s the list of my graduating class. Majority of the people are 18 with a few exceptions being either 17 or 19.

that’s not even everyone, oddly enough! haha, our graduating class comes from about 8 different ‘feeder’ schools (elementary schools that go up to age 13), and that caused for quite the diversity. I love the fact that a few old fashioned names made it into the list, such as [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] (one of my good friends, and I know about 4 who are all teenagers) and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. I know in the lower grades, there are some more unusual names. One sibling set I know is:
[name_m]Both[/name_m] of your class lists are sooooo tiny compared to what mine was, and we are a tiny school district compared to those around us…crazy! lol There are like 300-500 graduates here every year, with many of the names both of you guys listed!
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you guys graduate in [name_f]October[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have a different school schedule then the US? Your classes are so small. My class had over 200 last year.
I’m from [name_f]Canada[/name_f], and my graduation’s 1st [name_u]November[/name_u]. As far as I know, my district (or school board as it’s called here) is the only one that graduates on the last friday of [name_f]October[/name_f]/first friday of [name_u]November[/name_u]. They do this so that the students who did not collect enough mandatory volunteer hours (my district requires 40), or those who needed to take a course in summer school, can graduate with their peers. Personally, I think it’s stupid, half our graduating class likely won’t even be at the graduation! I know for sure at least 4 girls won’t be there, 2 are going to school in the US, and 1 is in Vancouver, the other is in [name_m]Halifax[/name_m], [name_f]Nova[/name_f] [name_f]Scotia[/name_f] (a good 18 hour drive away). We have roughly 275 graduates this year, but our yearbook committee is stupid, and failed to use retake day photos for those students who missed school pictures (like me) in the yearbook. In actuality, I think about 150-200 are actually in the yearbook, and only about 175 are in the graduation composite (our yearbook had an unbelievable amount of typos, it’s disgusting, haha. At 17-18 years old, you should know that it’s ‘magic’ not ‘majik’, and, someone should’ve proofread it. There’s also a boy who’s name’s been misspelled on every page and he’s on at least 8 pages.).
People came to my high school from a lot of different schools also, but a lot of people dropped out and began working or went to TAFE (Training and Further Education - courses to become hairdressers, builders, et cetera). The area I live in is quite a small area also.
In [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], Australia, we begin classes late February and while most of the school along with primary schools finish in [name_u]December[/name_u], VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education), VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) and VET (Vocational Education and Training) students (aka students in their last two years of school) finish earlier with students in their last year of school finishing in [name_f]October[/name_f] as final examinations run from the middle of [name_f]October[/name_f] to the end of [name_u]November[/name_u].
Here, high school is mandatory until the end of year 12, or until you turn 18. So, if your 18th birthday is in [name_u]January[/name_u], and you finish year 12 in [name_u]June[/name_u], you can drop out before you finish. If, like me, your birthday is in [name_f]October[/name_f], and you’re 17 when school ends, you legally cannot drop out.
That’s sort of the same here. It’s compulsory to go to school until you are 17, (though I think it’s getting changes to 18) unless you undertaking approved activities such as going to TAFE as that is in a way an alternative type of schooling.
I forgot about the reversed seasons in Australia. Our summer is [name_u]June[/name_u] - [name_u]August[/name_u] so we go to school [name_f]September[/name_f] - [name_u]June[/name_u]. We don’t have any kind of alternative programs and you can drop out of high school at 16. That’s probably one of the reasons why our schools are so bad. I think a new law was just passed that you have to go until your 18 but it isn’t being enforced yet.
