My Classic Choices

Not expecting yet- but wanted a bit of name advice for the near future if you’re willing! My top favorite names have always been [name]Mary[/name] and [name]Frances[/name] for a girl, and [name]George[/name] as a boy name. I struggle because it’s tradition in my family (and it goes back many years) for the first daughter to have the middle name [name]Jean[/name]. I hate the name [name]Jean[/name] for some reason- I never liked it as my middle name. I’ve considered the following options for my first daughter:

[name]Mary[/name] [name]Jean[/name]
[name]Mary[/name]-[name]Frances[/name] [name]Jean[/name] (I’m a big hyphen fan- the southern girl deep inside of me that grew up New [name]England[/name] I suppose)
[name]Mary[/name]-[name]Frances[/name] [name]Jane[/name] (starting a new tradition for future generations? Switching letter positions? My family is pretty non-judgemental- but is this rude?)
[name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name]

I’m open to other options that could incorporate the names I love/need to use too- any spins on [name]Jean[/name]? Unfortunately not a fan of [name]Jeanette[/name] which is a variant I believe. Also torn on that is better for a little girl- [name]Mary[/name] or [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Frances[/name]. I like very classic. What do you prefer?

In terms of [name]George[/name] I would want to honor my late father- [name]Peter[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you think [name]George[/name] [name]Peter[/name] has an okay ring to it? Does anyone have a [name]George[/name]? I’ve always loved it but some tell me it’s too big of a name for a little boy. I think there’s something very endearing about a little toddler named [name]Georgie[/name].

Thanks for your feedback- you all have such style and sophistication with your naming! DH is super laid back and trusts my taste!

Yay for classics!

My second daughter is [name]Mary[/name] [name]Clare[/name] and we call her by both names. I think [name]Mary[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is sweet. I agree with you on [name]Jean[/name]. Since you dislike [name]Jean[/name], I would not use it. I’m not sure about incorporating [name]Jane[/name] to suffice for [name]Jean[/name] unless you love [name]Jane[/name]. In that case, I like [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Frances[/name] the best.

[name]George[/name] is adorable and [name]George[/name] [name]Peter[/name] sounds fine together.

Good luck!

Thanks so much m2mom! I do love [name]Jane[/name] (I would say my favorite girls names of all time are probably [name]Mary[/name], [name]Frances[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Jane[/name], and [name]Louise[/name]) so that’s why it works out well- I just am not a fan of how it’s like [name]Mary[/name] [name]Jane[/name] which seems like it’s [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Jane[/name]- which I don’t love like I love [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Frances[/name]. I love [name]Mary[/name] [name]Clare[/name]! Props on a beautiful name for your little girl!

Thanks for your feedback on [name]George[/name] [name]Peter[/name]. It doesn’t quite have the exact ‘perfection’ I like in a name- but sometimes sentiment rules over the perfect combo.

[name]Mary[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is lovely. Agreed on sentiment with [name]Peter[/name] as the middle name. Although the flow is very nice, so it’s not settling!

[name]One[/name] thing you might want to consider is [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Jane[/name] is slang for a type of drug, so on that note I would say [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Frances[/name] would be the better option if you didn’t want to use [name]Mary[/name] on its own.

[name]George[/name] is a great name and I don’t see an issue with [name]George[/name] [name]Peter[/name] at all.
