My favorite names are strangely beautiful. What do you think?

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] (lee-O-nee)
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] this name for a few different reasons. It’s sweet, never used in the US, has many nickname possibilities, and it seems to roll right off the tongue. The only downside to it is the many different ways it can be pronounced.

Léonie ([name_m]LAY[/name_m]-o-nee)
This one sounds more [name_m]French[/name_m] and sophisticated, but for some reason I prefer the other pronunciation a little more.

[name_f]Marlene[/name_f] ([name_f]MAR[/name_f]-leen)
This is the one I have adored the longest. It’s my favorite out of the “[name_f]Mar[/name_f]” names.

[name_f]Marlaina[/name_f] ([name_f]Mar[/name_f]-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nuh)
I like it because of its elegance, but I have noticed that a lot of popular names today end with -a.

[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] ([name_f]MAR[/name_f]-seh-leen)
I love the flow to it. I would prefer the nickname [name_f]Celine[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Marcy[/name_f].

Which one is your favorite, and do you suggest other names that has a similar flow to these ones?
Thank you!

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] is my favorite but they are all beautiful!

These are beautiful names.

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] - I find this pronunciation difficult because I’m [name_m]French[/name_m] Canadian, but I do think it’s very sweet.

Léonie - usually this is pronounced lay-uh-NEE, not [name_m]LAY[/name_m]-oh-nee as you thought.

Have you considered Léona? This is pronounced different ways where I’m from, I’ve heard it with the stress on different syllables, so you could easily say “[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-oh-na”.

[name_f]Marlene[/name_f] is gorgeous. But did you know it can also pronounced as mar-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-nah? This might take care of some of the ‘a’ problem with [name_f]Marlaina[/name_f].

[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] ([name_f]MAR[/name_f]-seh-leen) - I love it! I also love [name_f]Marcheline[/name_f], which can still be shortened to [name_f]Marcy[/name_f].

Suggestions:

[name_f]Lorraine[/name_f]
Léona
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonine[/name_f]
Léonine
Léontine
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f]
[name_f]Maureen[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcheline[/name_f]

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Marlene[/name_f]. It’s beautiful and I don’t think it’s too strange. My mother-in-law’s name is Shalene, and I really think it unique and pretty.

[name_f]Marlene[/name_f] and [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] sound dated to me, but I can imagine them sounding fresh on a child. Either one could also be abbreviated as [name_f]Lena[/name_f]/[name_f]Lina[/name_f], which is sweet for a child.

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] and [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] are my favorites from these-- pretty and classic. [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and Marlies ([name_f]Mar[/name_f]-lees) are similar names.

These are beautiful but not strange. Of course I like [name_f]Morven[/name_f], [name_f]Tangerine[/name_f], and [name_f]Ermengard[/name_f], so there you go!

I say [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] the [name_m]French[/name_m] way. Either is lovely.

[name_f]Marlene[/name_f] I say like [name_m]Dietrich[/name_m] which sounds exotic to me, unlike [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-lean which sounds prosaic.

Spell it [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] and say it [name_f]Marlaina[/name_f].

[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] is the only one I’m dubious about. It sounds slick and like Maybelline make-up. What about [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] which is stronger sounding?

[name_f]Leontine[/name_f], [name_f]Leontyne[/name_f] are lovely too as are [name_f]Madelief[/name_f], [name_f]Margolette[/name_f], and [name_f]Madeira[/name_f]. And [name_f]Loire[/name_f] too.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] Léonie and [name_f]Marceline[/name_f].

Meh on [name_f]Leonie[/name_f].

Not a fan of [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] or [name_f]Marlaina[/name_f].

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] is my favorite.

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] - I knew many girls at school in the UK called [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], so its always sounded a bit dated (80s/90s name). I’m not its biggest fan tbh but I think its a matter of taste and its certainly not the worst name in the world

Léonie - Perhaps we are a bit pretentious but I think this makes the name look so elegant and feminine. However, a lot of people will forget to add the accent so there will be a lot of misspelling and mispronunciations that will most likely annoy you and your daughter.

[name_f]Marlene[/name_f] - Again I think this is a bit dated and it only reminds me of [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] [name_m]Boyce[/name_m] from Only Fools and Horses.

[name_f]Marlaina[/name_f] - Sounds a little more elegant than the dated and dowdy [name_f]Marlene[/name_f]. I quite like it actually, it’s just a shame about the jumbled spelling, it feels like a name that is trying to be trendy.

[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] - By far my favourite name out of the ones you have listed. I think [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] is due a revival and hopefully will be due to the similarity of [name_f]Marcheline[/name_f], which is a middle name of one of [name_f]Angelina[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f]'s daughters. It is very elegant and has good potential with nicknames to soften it up for a child, such as [name_f]Marcy[/name_f], [name_f]Macy[/name_f] and [name_f]Celine[/name_f].

Potential names:
[name_f]Lenore[/name_f]/[name_f]Lenora[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcheline[/name_f]
[name_f]Marlena[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]/[name_f]Madelena[/name_f]
[name_f]Mathilde[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] quite a lot.

Léonie is by far my favorite ” it was my great grandma’s name!

I like [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] - it intrigues me. I’m curious what nicknames you would use? You said there are several nickname options, but none seem to stick out to me when I look at the name.

I also like [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Celine[/name_f]. I actually prefer [name_f]Celine[/name_f] as a full name though.

I really like [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], although it’s a little cute for me as a stand alone name. I was considering [name_f]Leona[/name_f] or [name_f]Leora[/name_f] (lay-or-a). I also like [name_f]Marlene[/name_f]! In fact I’ve been in love with [name_f]Mar[/name_f]- names, [name_f]Margery[/name_f]/[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] almost made the cut. I really like [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] but it feels a little to fancy and awkward for me. I tried to convince the husband to use [name_f]Marcella[/name_f], which I love love so much or [name_f]Marina[/name_f] but he wouldn’t go for it. Currently we have [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] on our short list, while it doesn’t exactly the same sound is the closest we have for that sound family. What about [name_f]Thea[/name_f] or [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] or [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]? Or Lenore, Leonora, Lenora, Annora?

I love [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], they’re both on my short list! I would probably go with the [name_f]Marcy[/name_f] nickname, or maybe [name_f]Lina[/name_f] (or [name_f]Lin[/name_f]-y, but that just sounds like leany and I’m not sure how many people would go for that!). My only other concern with [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] is that I 100% heard it first on Adventure Time, but I wouldn’t be naming my child after that character, if that makes sense… A lot of people in our family/friend group have seen it though, so she would probably inevitably end up being called “[name_f]Marceline[/name_f] the Vampire [name_f]Queen[/name_f]” a few times… But she’s a pretty cool character, so I can handle that.

For [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], I found someone nicknamed Noni, and I kind of love it… I’m not sure that I’m actually brave enough to use either, but they’re at the top of my list!!

My favorite is [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] but I love the way [name_f]Marlaina[/name_f] sounds, just not how it’s spelled. I’ve only ever seen it spelled [name_f]Marlena[/name_f] (pronounced the way you want) and I like that it’s also a song title. [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] is still effortlessly cool and chic. [name_f]Marlena[/name_f] is a bit more frilly, but still just as sweet. It depends on if that A ending bothers you! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] is my favorite.

Others:
[name_f]Noemi[/name_f]
Marceaux
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_m]Avon[/name_m]
[name_f]Lisette[/name_f]

I love both [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] and Léonie, and I also love [name_f]Marlene[/name_f], but only when pronounced “mar-[name_m]LAY[/name_m]-na”, like [name_f]Marlene[/name_f] [name_m]Dietrich[/name_m]

[name_f]Marlaina[/name_f] looks kre8iv to me, and [name_f]Marceline[/name_f] is a bit too fancy-girly for my tastes.
