My favourite name is now unusable!

Marnie [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]/Elisabeth has always been top of my list but now my husband’s cousin has called her baby [name_f]Marnie[/name_f]. Gutted.

I have lots of other favourite but what combinations would you put together?

Family honour names are…
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_u]Anne[/name_u]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]/Elisabeth (I love lots of the NNs that come from this too… [name_f]Beth[/name_f], [name_f]Bess[/name_f], [name_f]Bessie[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] etc.)

Then I also like…
[name_f]Averie[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Erin[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Leah[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucie[/name_f]
[name_f]Mae[/name_f]

xx

I’m sorry about your favorite name–such a bummer! I wonder if you would like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a first name, with one of the nicknames you mentioned? I also love [name_f]Libby[/name_f]–as a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or on its own (on its own, it reminds me a little of the vibe of [name_f]Marnie[/name_f]). Maybe [name_f]Libby[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f]? Or [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] could be really sweet as a stand alone–and definitely reminds me of the feeling I get from [name_f]Marnie[/name_f]. From the rest of your list, I love [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_f]Lucie[/name_f], and [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u], [name_f]Leah[/name_f] [name_f]Diane[/name_f], [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]? There’s also [name_f]Marcie[/name_f], which reminds me of [name_f]Marnie[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Mollie[/name_f]/Maggie/Marie?

Oh no. I love that combo!

I like [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] for you! Maybe [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Leah[/name_f] or [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/May.

Diana [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucie[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Amabel[/name_f] [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] ([name_f]Amelie[/name_f] + [name_f]Belle[/name_f])
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] ([name_u]Anne[/name_u] + [name_f]Belle[/name_f])
[name_f]Libby[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]

I’d not actually thought of [name_f]Libby[/name_f] as NN, I like that one too. I think I would consider using [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a first name, I think that just because I’ve had in my head as the middle name for so long it’s weird to think of it as being first. I really like [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] too though. Thank you!

I loved it too. Honestly, so frustrated! She didn’t know it was the name I had picked out, so it’s not her fault but just very annoying.

Annabeth is actually gorgeous… really like that!
I like the others combination names too.

Oh no. What are the chances? It’s not like it’s that common a name, so I can understand how upsetting that must feel. I’d be gutted, too.

I like the ideas of [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. I’ll add [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] and [name_f]Bette[/name_f] into the mix, which I think are suitably [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], though I’m sure nothing can quite substitute for your old favorite.

Lilibet [name_f]Averie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] (though this sounds VERY regal and less in line with [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] but it is a very pretty combo)

Bette [name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Bette[/name_f] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]

Or, perhaps if it doesn’t bother you too much to use [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] as a middle name despite the relation:
[name_f]Bette[/name_f] [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] !!

Oh no, @kirkyloo! Nightmare :scream:

I hope we can help you find something you love as much, so you’ll look back on it as a blessing in disguise that your cousin got in there first!

From your current list, I especially like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Erin[/name_f], [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and [name_f]Faye[/name_f]. [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is also a fantastic strong classic, very underrated these days.

Combos…

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Erin[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]

That’s exactly what I said to my husband :frowning: If it were a really common name I don’t think I would have been quite a frustrated! I had thought about the possibility of using [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] as a middle but I just don’t feel I can now.

[name_f]Bette[/name_f] is really cute! I love it paired with [name_f]Diana[/name_f] too.

It’s definitely nice to get a fresh perspective on things! I was so hung up on the old name.

maybe move [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] to the front and [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] in the middle, and call her [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] when you want to  [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] is so sweet.

how about the names [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f] or [name_f]Marina[/name_f]?

I also like

[name_f]Lucie[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucie[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] (I love the name [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and then the association of [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Di[/name_f], so I particularly like this one)
[name_f]Averie[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]

Thank you for all your lovely suggestions
I especially like [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f].

[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] could be a strong possibility!!

I am starting to warm to the idea of having [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] first, because of the lovely NNs, my husband is really keen on [name_f]Bette[/name_f]/Betsy especially.

[name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] is really nice
Thank you for all your lovely ideas.

another vote for [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! I would love to see a baby [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] nowadays! it is so darling, and has the same vibe and style as [name_f]Marnie[/name_f].

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

So, how close is this cousin? [name_f]My[/name_f] dh has…I think…26 first cousins. Some of them we hang out w/and are cool. Some we see once a year & they’re fine. Some are kind of not super nice people & we see extremely rarely. With so many cousins & so many cousins having kids, a lot of names are used. I decided that if a name is used by one of the cousins that we see at most once a year, I wouldn’t let that stop me from using it. Especially if it was a name that I loved as much as you seem to love [name_f]Marnie[/name_f].

That all being said, here are my thoughts on the rest of your list-

[name_f]Averie[/name_f]-I don’t care for this. [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is charming for a boy, & it’s been kind of over used & trendy for a girl in my opinion.

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]-Ooh, lovely! A similar sound as [name_f]Averie[/name_f], but a way more feminine & elegant feeling. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would be gorgeous.

[name_f]Belle[/name_f]-I kind of like this more as a nn, but it’s a pleasant name. [name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] would be pretty.

[name_f]Erin[/name_f]-Not my super favorite, but it’s not bad at all. [name_f]Erin[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] sounds great.

[name_f]Faye[/name_f]-Same as above. [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f]. I kind of like [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] actually, even though neither of those names are my cup of tea. Something pixie-ish about it!

[name_f]Leah[/name_f]-A sweet simple classic. I like [name_f]Leah[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] or [name_f]Leah[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

[name_f]Lucie[/name_f]-I prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], but it’s a darling name. [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u] or [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] are beautiful.

[name_f]Mae[/name_f]-Another great choice! I’m really no help, am I? [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is adorable.

And of course [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] on its own is a perfect choice for a fn. I love [name_f]Bess[/name_f] too. Also, [name_f]Tess[/name_f]!

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

I like this suggestion! I also second her suggestion of [name_f]Molly[/name_f] – seems like a very sweet option to succeed [name_f]Marnie[/name_f].

Of your options, I think [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] stands out because it shares some sounds with [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], but still feels distinct.

And I definitely love [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]!! Brilliant.

Hello

Quite close unfortunately. Not unfortunately, as she is lovely, there are four cousins and we will go weekends away etc with them, but too unfortunately too close to use the name.

Thank you for your thoughts on all the names!
I’m finding it really interesting reading everyone’s opinions, as some of the ones I had more towards the bottom of my list other people seem to be really loving… [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a FN.

Thank you :two_hearts: it’s great to get a fresh perspective on things.

Ooh [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is getting lots of love
I do like how it has that similarity to [name_f]Marnie[/name_f].

Libby sprung to mind! It honours [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and it gives me the same vibes as [name_f]Marnie[/name_f]! [name_f]Libby[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]?

Amelie, [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Erin[/name_f] and [name_f]Mae[/name_f] are lovely too

Amelie [name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]

Ooh [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] isn’t something I’ve ever considered before but I quite like that.
[name_f]Libby[/name_f] is lovely too, thank you.

I think [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] could be a wonderful first name! It works with so many of the names you’ve listed.
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Leah[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]

If you’re set on it being a middle, I like the combination [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

Other combinations I like:
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Averie[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]
[name_f]Lucie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Erin[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Erin[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]

Names I feel have the same vibe as [name_f]Marnie[/name_f]:
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]
[name_u]Rue[/name_u]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Millie[/name_f]
[name_f]Demi[/name_f]
[name_f]Marina[/name_f] (this might be too close)
[name_u]Harley[/name_u] or [name_u]Harlow[/name_u]
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] (I love this one, especially with the mn [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f])

That’s such a bummer to lose your favorite name! I know the feeling, I was super set on the mn [name_f]Belle[/name_f] and my sister used it. Good luck!
