Here are some names I have come across that I really like. I am not sure if people would think it sounds too weird, and I don’t want my child to be made fun of by her name. So wdyt? Suggestions for other names, middle names, and comments are welcome thanks (last name [name]Johnston[/name])
[name]Azalea[/name] [name]Sonnet[/name] (ah-zayl-ee-ah)
[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Blossom[/name] (or Xanthea… not sure which one I like better) (zan-thee or zan-thee-ah)
[name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Story[/name] (been obsessed with this name since i watched pan’s labyrinth (ofelia it was spelt), also a fan of [name]Hamlet[/name])
[name]Florencia[/name]
[name]Araminta[/name]
Aristoclea
[name]Mira[/name]
[name]Tempest[/name]
They’re a little too ‘exotic’ for my taste but I like old-fashioned names that most people don’t like. I do like [name]Mira[/name] and my second choice would be [name]Azalea[/name] or [name]Ophelia[/name]
I love love love [name]Xanthea[/name] [name]Blossom[/name]. I think having the 3 syllable versus the 2 syllable [name]Xanthe[/name] flows better with [name]Blossom[/name]. [name]Both[/name] names are great though. I also really like [name]Azalea[/name]. I really like your style, and I don’t think that they are too exotic at all.
I like many of these names. I especially love [name]Xanthe[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name] and [name]Araminta[/name] (I’d love to honor [name]Harriet[/name] Tubman with [name]Araminta[/name]!). However, all of these I keep as “guilty pleasure names” and I’ll explain why:
[name]Xanthe[/name]- would remind people of Xanax
[name]Blossom[/name]- the 90s tv sitcom
[name]Ophelia[/name]- “feel ya” is too easy for annoying little boys
[name]Araminta[/name]- minty this, minty that… Again, annoying little boys
[name]Mira[/name]- sounds like mirror, also it means “look” in Spanish (pronounced “mee dah”)
I also like [name]Azalea[/name], but I’ve always pronounced it “ah-zayl-ya.”
I don’t have many suggestions:
-[name]Azalea[/name]–> [name]Calla[/name] or [name]Cassia[/name] or even [name]Aviva[/name] ([name]Aviva[/name] is a car insurance company in the UK and [name]Canada[/name] though)
-[name]Ophelia[/name]–> [name]Octavia[/name]
-[name]Mira[/name]–> [name]Amira[/name] or even [name]Shira[/name] (“sheer uh”)
-[name]Florencia[/name]–> [name]Francesca[/name] maybe ?? I’ll even go on a limb and suggest [name]Georgiana[/name] and [name]Georgina[/name]
-Aristoclea–> I’d like to suggest Ariston for a boy actually. I’ve always liked that. For a girl, [name]Arissa[/name]
Out of all of these, I really like [name]Araminta[/name]. I think it fits the trend of princessy names like [name]Arabella[/name] and [name]Annabella[/name]. Plus, it honors one of the most heroic women of all time! And I think the nickname [name]Minty[/name] is kinda cute, but it could also cause teasing.
If you are looking for honest opinions I think that all of these are “out there” except [name]Azalea[/name] and [name]Mira[/name]. I think [name]Sonnet[/name] and [name]Story[/name] would be okay for middle names, though.
[name]Azalea[/name] [name]Sonnet[/name] - I know [name]Azalea[/name], the flower, but that pronunciation is not what I’m used to at all. I don’t know where you are though so maybe people won’t automatically say az-ale-ya where you are?
[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Blossom[/name] - I don’t like [name]Blossom[/name] but I adore [name]Xanthe[/name]. I’ve met a couple. It’s not popular out here (Australia) but it’s by no means unheard of. It’s also very simple to say and seems in keeping with [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Xander[/name], so I think its easily usable.
[name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Story[/name] - It’s artsy but not unknown. It doesn’t blow my skirt up, particularly, personally, but it’s not especially foreign or impossible to use.
[name]Florencia[/name] - I think [name]Florence[/name] or [name]Flora[/name] would be easier but it’s not that bad.
[name]Araminta[/name] - I love [name]Araminta[/name].
[name]Mira[/name] - I don’t find it exotic, I find it… dull, actually. I’d prefer [name]Mara[/name]/[name]Marigold[/name]/[name]Mirabel[/name].
[name]Azalea[/name] [name]Sonnet[/name] - I like [name]Azalea[/name] but I pronounce it more like ah-zayl-ya. [name]Sonnet[/name] is ok as a MN.
[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Blossom[/name] - I love [name]Xanthe[/name] but Xanthea might be a little too much. [name]Blossom[/name] is nms but it’s in the MN spot and it doesn’t sound bad.
[name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Story[/name] - I like [name]Ophelia[/name] but I worry about the teasing potential. I wouldn’t use [name]Story[/name] as a MN here becasue the story of [name]Ophelia[/name] in [name]Hamlet[/name] is not the greatest. It makes me think of “[name]Ophelia[/name]'s story”. I don’t think a word name works here because [name]Ophelia[/name] can sound like “i feel ya”. Maybe [name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Alice[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Esme[/name].
[name]Florencia[/name] - I love this and [name]Florence[/name].
[name]Araminta[/name] - [name]One[/name] of my favorites. I like [name]Araminta[/name] [name]Sonnet[/name], [name]Araminta[/name] [name]Florence[/name], [name]Araminta[/name] [name]Violet[/name].
Aristoclea - I’m not sure how to pronounce this. It might make a good MN for a shorter FN.
[name]Mira[/name] - I like it and I don’t think this one is too exotic at all. [name]Mila[/name] seems to be getting popular and [name]Mira[/name] fits right in.
[name]Tempest[/name] - NMS as a FN but it would make a good MN. [name]Mira[/name] [name]Tempest[/name]? [name]Azalea[/name] [name]Tempest[/name]?
[name]Azalea[/name] [name]Sonnet[/name] - This sounds like it’s a sonnet to azaleas, not a name. [name]Azalea[/name] is very nice, but I would use a different middle name.
[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Blossom[/name] - [name]Xanthe[/name] means yellow, so this is yellow blossom.
[name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Story[/name] - I agree with [name]Christabel[/name], it sounds like the [name]Ophelia[/name] story. I love the name [name]Ophelia[/name] though.
[name]Florencia[/name] - Nice, like this much more than [name]Florence[/name].
[name]Araminta[/name] - Reminds me of old ladies in nursing homes giving away wrapped up old mints.
Aristoclea - Cute.
[name]Mira[/name] - The most normal one, it’s beautiful and sweet.
[name]Tempest[/name] - My favourite. Needs a strong and fierce personality.
[name]Azalea[/name] [name]Sonnet[/name] [name]Johnston[/name] - [name]Sonnet[/name] is too much. I would recommend a simple name for [name]Azalea[/name]'s middle name, like [name]Jane[/name].
[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Blossom[/name] [name]Johnston[/name] - [name]Blossom[/name] is too much. I would also recommend a simple name for [name]Xanthe[/name]'s middle name.
[name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Story[/name] [name]Johnston[/name] - I see teasing potential with [name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Johnston[/name] - it sounds like “I feel ya [name]Johnson[/name].” Maybe not everyone would see the teasing potential, but I saw it immediately.
[name]Florencia[/name] [name]Johnston[/name] - I think [name]Florence[/name] [name]Johnston[/name] would be better.
[name]Araminta[/name] [name]Johnston[/name] - This is my favorite. It is exotic, but I could totally see it working beautifully for a girl and a woman.
Aristoclea [name]Johnston[/name] - This one might work well, but it is quite exotic sounding.
[name]Mira[/name] [name]Johnston[/name] - The safest choice. It would definitely work well.
[name]Tempest[/name] [name]Johnston[/name] - No. It has a very specific name image that your future daughter may or may not appreciate, but either way, she would either REALLY love it, or REALLY hate it.
[name]Azalea[/name] [name]Sonnet[/name] - I kind of like [name]Azalea[/name], but with [name]Sonnet[/name] is just too much. [name]Way[/name] too floofy in the wimpy sense, like it lacks strength.
[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Blossom[/name] - not sure why, but [name]Xanthe[/name] sounds too snobby/trying-too-hard to me. [name]Blossom[/name] is okay, but reminds me of the TV show by the same name.
[name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Story[/name] - [name]Ophelia[/name] is alright, but [name]Story[/name] is too whimsical for my tastes.
[name]Florencia[/name] - a bit too elaborate.
[name]Araminta[/name] - sounds pretentious to me, like one of [name]Cinderella[/name]'s wicked stepsisters or something.
Aristoclea - huh? I’m not sure where I stand on this one. Certainly is interesting, I’ll give it that.
[name]Mira[/name] - I actually quite like this one. This is the only name on the list that doesn’t seem likes it’s going to blow away in the wind, so to speak. In other words, it sounds the most grounded and down-to-earth.
[name]Tempest[/name] - I know a dog named [name]Tempest[/name], but it’s a boy. Regardless, I could see myself liking this maybe. I like the nn Tempy.
I think [name]Azalea[/name] or [name]Araminta[/name] could work well. Azaleas are humble flowers; it’s not far from naming your daughter [name]Dahlia[/name]. [name]Araminta[/name] is beautiful and romantic, but has straightforward, clear sounds. It’s tricky, because your last name is so “normal” …so some of the more elaborate names sound a bit like “[name]Cleopatra[/name] [name]Jones[/name].”
I prefer [name]Story[/name] to [name]Sonnet[/name] with your last name- more down to earth.
[name]Azalea[/name] [name]Story[/name] [name]Johnston[/name]
[name]Araminta[/name] [name]Story[/name] [name]Johnston[/name]
I love [name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Story[/name], [name]Blossom[/name] and [name]Araminta[/name] and I think those are still acceptable on a child. I’d be cautious of Aristoclea, though.
[name]Azalea[/name] [name]Sonnet[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] this! It’s amazing- stunning, quirky and unique. As you can tell, [name]Azalea[/name] is my favourite name and I love literature so I think any literary name is great! (though I’m more into novels and plays than poetry)
[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Blossom[/name]- okay but I don’t particularly love either name
[name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Story[/name]- we’re actually studying [name]Hamlet[/name] in school right now and though I find [name]Ophelia[/name] weak and too susceptible to what others say, I still love her name. And of course I love [name]Story[/name]. Great combo!
[name]Florencia[/name]- reminds me of the beautiful city [name]Florence[/name]- while I’ve never been there, I want to someday. [name]Lovely[/name] name.
[name]Araminta[/name]- it has a mystical, almost mysterious quality that I love
Aristoclea- sounds ancient and powerful, like the name of a queen from thousands of years ago. I like it but I can see some people today finding it strange or otherwise reacting negatively.
[name]Mira[/name]- plain next to your other names, also too nicknamey for my taste. Though it’d be a sweet NN for Miroslava.
[name]Tempest[/name]- very dramatic, windswept and romantic name. I love it! But not every girl would be able to pull it off.
I like [name]Mira[/name] and [name]Ophelia[/name] as FNs. I like [name]Azalea[/name], [name]Sonnet[/name], [name]Florencia[/name], [name]Blossom[/name] as potential MNs.
Some other names that popped in my head as I was reading your list that you may or may not like:
[name]Seraphina[/name]
[name]Amaryllis[/name]
[name]Cerelia[/name]
[name]Eulalia[/name]
[name]Azalea[/name] [name]Sonnet[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Azalea[/name] but not so hot on the flow with mn
[name]Xanthe[/name] [name]Blossom[/name] - Cute!
[name]Ophelia[/name] [name]Story[/name] - I am not a fan of story it seems awkward to me in any pairing
[name]Florencia[/name] - I see a lot of pronunciation issues with this one
[name]Araminta[/name] - this name along with [name]Doris[/name], [name]Edna[/name] and [name]Gladis[/name] is not ready for a comeback
Aristoclea - [name]MAJOR[/name] [name]MAJOR[/name] pronunciation issues
[name]Mira[/name] - The most normal one, it’s beautiful and sweet.
[name]Tempest[/name]
The only first name that I think might be just too hard to ‘wear’, is Aristoclea. The other first names are all lovely imo.
For some reason, I feel the middle names take some of the strength and beauty away from the first names. I would be tempted to use more classic middle names in order to let the first names shine.
