my girl's name list - thoughts?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] guys, I thought I’d post my top girl’s name list, if anyone cares to comment. I posted about one of my favorite names last week, [name_f]Rosalina[/name_f], which got mixed reviews, so I thought I’d post my entire list. As you can see, my husband and I like long names that end in “a.” Let me know which ones are your favorites, they are in no particular order. Thanks!

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Luisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Serafina[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalina[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Giuliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Juliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Kaia[/name_f]
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]

I’m a huge fan of [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]! It’s a pretty, feminine, bright, happy, spunky and underused classic but still familiar. Plus, it has a lot of NN options if you’re into that. Definitely my absolute favorite from your list but the others are also nice.

i like clara!

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Luisa[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] a lot! I had been considering it for a while a month or two ago, to get to [name_f]Lola[/name_f], but I’m not sure I can see me with a [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. I’d love to see someone else use it, though. It’s beautiful.
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] - I like it a lot, but prefer [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] personally.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - I like it okay, but somehow it seems overrated to me. (Much like [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]. I know I’m in the minority here hahaha.) I love [name_f]Claire[/name_f], but something about [name_f]Clara[/name_f] I can’t get into completely.
[name_f]Serafina[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Serafina[/name_f] a lot (much more than [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]!), but I am not terribly keen on the nns, and I’ve never found a combo that made me love it enough to use it. It is really pretty, though!
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] (this spelling a lot–something about the “H” I’m not too fond of), but I’m not sure I love it enough to use it up front. It’s a gorgeous name, though, and I have this thing where I lengthen names instead of shorten them to nicknames (it’s weird and I’m dumb, haha, but I’ve done it for years. [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] becomes [name_f]Natalia[/name_f], [name_f]Carol[/name_f] becomes [name_f]Carolina[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] becomes [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], my friend [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] has become [name_f]Serafina[/name_f], etc.), and I call my friend [name_f]Sue[/name_f] “[name_f]Susanna[/name_f]” all the time (so much so that people have come to think it’s her actual name, which we think is hilarious lol).
[name_f]Estella[/name_f] - I like it fairly well–much more than [name_f]Stella[/name_f]!–but not as much as [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]. I probably wouldn’t use it, but it is a pretty name.
[name_f]Rosalina[/name_f] - I’m not keen on [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names in general (although I do love [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]!), but I like [name_f]Rosalina[/name_f] much more than [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f]! It’s very dainty and frilly, and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lina[/name_f] are such cute nicknames! I actually love it for you.
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] - I like it fairly well–I’ve been trying out [name_f]Eve[/name_f] Fiala [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] on my own list!–but I like [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] more, personally. I love [name_f]Eve[/name_f] as a middle, though.
[name_f]Giuliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] - I think [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] would be easier to live with–I love those Italian Gi- names ([name_f]Giulietta[/name_f], [name_f]Giuliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Giulia[/name_f], [name_f]Giovanna[/name_f], [name_f]Giuseppina[/name_f], etc.!), but I think the majority of them are pretty hard to live with. I don’t think most people would get them right and spelling (and pronunciation) would be a nightmare. Unless you have lots of Italian ancestry (and quite recent), I would probably skip it in favor of [name_f]Juliana[/name_f], which is gorgeous.
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]! So popular but I really don’t care. Then again, [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] is my favorite girls’ name. I think I’d use [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] over [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], but I have [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] on my long list, too, and as a middle for [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] on my medium-length (haha) list. To me, she’s one of the most beautiful names in the world.
[name_f]Kaia[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Kaia[/name_f]! Huge thumbs up from me. (Not that that means anything lol.)
[name_f]Estella[/name_f] - this is the second time you listed this, so maybe that’s saying something? It is a lovely name!

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Kaia[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosalina[/name_f] are my favorites.

Good luck!

Your names aren’t really my taste, but I really like [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]

My least favorite would be [name_f]Estella[/name_f], it just sounds really old to me!

[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]

From favorite to least favorite:

  1. [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]- I personally think this spelling is prettier, but like both. [name_u]Lou[/name_u] is also a cute nickname.
  2. [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]- I’ve never met a little girl with this name and would find it very refreshing.
  3. [name_f]Eve[/name_f]- A pretty classic, cant go wrong with this.
  4. [name_f]Rosalina[/name_f]- It seems a little bit much but I do like both rose and lina.
  5. [name_f]Clara[/name_f]- I prefer [name_f]Claire[/name_f], for some reason this always makes me think of a cow.
  6. [name_f]Serafina[/name_f]- Pretty name.
  7. [name_f]Juliana[/name_f]- I like this best of all of the [name_f]Julia[/name_f] names.
  8. [name_f]Estella[/name_f]- Have a hard time picturing on a little girl, slightly prefer [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
  9. [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]- I hear this name so much it seems unoriginal.
10.[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]- I feel like this name is hard to say.
  10. [name_f]Kaia[/name_f]- Is this pronounced [name_f]Kaya[/name_f]? If so I much prefer that spelling.

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Luisa[/name_f] - I’d definitely go for the [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] spelling, as [name_f]Luisa[/name_f] looks incomplete. I don’t really like it, it makes me think of [name_f]Louise[/name_f] which I feel is a little 90’s…aka its gone but not come back yet!

[name_f]Serafina[/name_f] - I feel [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] looks better. I’m still not really a fan though. I prefer [name_f]Persephone[/name_f].

[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] - Gorgeous, elegant, and sweet.

[name_f]Estella[/name_f] - Outdated, imo. I prefer [name_f]Stella[/name_f], but even that feels outdated to me.

[name_f]Rosalina[/name_f] - gorgeous! I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f]- names. This is lovely

[name_f]Eve[/name_f] - short, simple, and sweet. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it

[name_f]Giuliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] - [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] over [name_f]Giuliana[/name_f], which is just confusing. Not big on it though.

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - very sweet and adorable. I think I’ll love this no matter how popular it gets.

[name_f]Kaia[/name_f] - pronouned [name_u]Kay[/name_u]-uh, as in rhyming with the month, May I think its adorable. Pronouned [name_u]Kye[/name_u]-uh, I’d rather see [name_f]Kyah[/name_f] - but still love it.

Did you take some names off your list? I see other people have mentioned [name_f]Clara[/name_f] which would 100% be my favourite. She’s classical, elegant, timeless, and very underused!

Thanks for all the great comments!

Thanks for the awesome comments. No I didn’t take [name_f]Clara[/name_f] off, I think you just copied another poster who had taken it off, I agree, it’s such an elegant name!

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalina[/name_f], and [name_f]Estella[/name_f] are my favorites on your list. They all have a timeless and romantic quality to me.

Runner ups would be [name_f]Clara[/name_f] and [name_f]Serafina[/name_f]. [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is lovely but almost seems out of place among the rest of your list, and with [name_f]Serafina[/name_f] I’ve always preferred the -ph spelling to the -f spelling, but that’s just a matter of personal preference.

[name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] also seem out of place but in a fun and punchy way. (Proof that we all have some outliers in our naming styles.)
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] is just classic.

Thanks everyone for the comments. So helpful! Keep 'em coming

I love [name_f]Estella[/name_f] and you could always use [name_f]Stella[/name_f] as a nickname (-:

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Luisa[/name_f] - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] and classic! I generally prefer the [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] spelling, unless you are honoring a Spanish heritage or live in a Spanish speaking country
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] - Not my favorite name on the list, but still a nice name
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - Like [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], not my favorite, but nice
[name_f]Serafina[/name_f] - I really like [name_f]Serafina[/name_f]; it’s got tons of great nickname options, it’s unusual but not strange, and it really fits your long, romantic naming style.
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] - [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] reminds me a lot of [name_f]Serafina[/name_f] in terms of sound, but it’s got a more classic and less romantic style. I slightly prefer [name_f]Serafina[/name_f]
[name_f]Estella[/name_f] - I like this a lot
[name_f]Rosalina[/name_f] - I posted in the [name_f]Rosalina[/name_f] thread- it’s a decent name, but doesn’t really stand out to me
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Eve[/name_f], but I am surprised to see it here. It’s much different from all the other names on your list. I think a short, simple name like [name_f]Eve[/name_f] would be great as a middle for the other names on your list (or you could use [name_f]Eve[/name_f] with a frillier middle)
[name_f]Giuliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Giuliana[/name_f] with a G, but I’m so torn about whether it’s usable. I’m so torn on this- [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] seems very ordinary and even a little boring, but [name_f]Giuliana[/name_f] would cause such headaches with spelling. I knew a [name_f]Giulia[/name_f] and she was “[name_f]Giulia[/name_f] with a G” and we leave in an area where Italian is fairly widely spoken compared to most parts of the US. If you live in, say, Wisconsin, [name_f]Giuliana[/name_f] could be a bit difficult, but I think it’s SO much better than [name_f]Juliana[/name_f]. [name_f]Giuliana[/name_f] in the middle might work- [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Giuliana[/name_f] is gorgeous.
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] - It’s a nice name, but very popular. If that bothers you, I’d pass, but if you don’t care, keep it on the list.
[name_f]Kaia[/name_f] - Sweet and simple.

Some names I think you might like based on your extended list:
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] or [name_f]Genoveva[/name_f], nn [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Isannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Gabriella[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Alessia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]
[name_f]Athena[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Valeria[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]

Thank you so much for your insightful comments! I love [name_f]Cora[/name_f] from your suggestions.

Like
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]: I prefer this spelling over [name_f]Luisa[/name_f]. This name just looks really pretty and sounds pretty which is why I like it.
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]: I like this because it is a nice twist to the popular [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] over [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as it is longer whilst also giving th option as [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nickname.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]: I like this because I like the nickname [name_f]Clary[/name_f].
[name_f]Rosalina[/name_f]: Very pretty and I like the nickname [name_f]Rosie[/name_f].
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]: pretty simple name, not my favourite but still like it.
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]: pretty but so popular.
[name_f]Kaia[/name_f]: Simple and pretty name.
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]: Like the nickname [name_f]Elle[/name_f].

Dislike
[name_f]Serafina[/name_f]: This name just doesn’t do it for me, feels clunky and old.
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]: again feels clunky and old to me.
Juiliana: Although i prefer this spelling it still again feels clunky and old.

My favourites would be [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] (no order)
