My heart is telling me one name, my head another... HELP!

[name]Hi[/name] to all… I need some HONEST advice about a name!
My great grandmothers name was [name]Birdie[/name]… and I have always loved her name! … is it too out dated/weird to use? I just love it!!
Help!

Cute name for a little girl…however I just can’t see it on and adult. That being said, if you love it and your heart says go with it then go with it! I have not been on this site long, only for a few months but one thing I have learned is that if you love a name don’t let anyone else spoil it for you…it will grow with a little girl and seem natural to those who know her  I have posted questions about names and posted the names of my other girls and have gotten some aweful comments about thier names which were not part of the original question and I [name]LOVE[/name] thier names and do not regret them for one second! So go with your heart!!!

[name]Birdie[/name] is cute! I love it, but I would use it as a nn for something a bit more formal, like [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Wren[/name], [name]Lark[/name], or [name]Bryony[/name]…

It sounds like it has a lot of significance and you love it, so I would definitely use it… I just like the idea of a more formal name for the resumes and birth announcements and wedding invitations and such.

Good luck!

If you love it, go for it. Vintage nick-names as names are not unusual these days…[name]Birdie[/name] might seems a little informal, but it’s sweet, and has sentimental family meaning for you, which is nice. If you’re worried though, use it in the middle spot. OR you could even use a more universally accepted avian name (think [name]Robin[/name], [name]Wren[/name], [name]Raven[/name] etc…) and nn [name]Birdie[/name].

I totally agree with ashthedreamer
[name]Birdie[/name] would be a really lovely nickname. I this is would be cute for her to have a more formal sounding first name as she grows. For her wedding, jobs, etc… But I don’t think it would be a bad name to have. Another idea is to use it as her middle name but have her go by that. This would allow her to have a more formal name, but still use the name you love.

Good luck to you!

I [name]LOVE[/name] it…as a nickname. It’s just too cutesy to age well. I know Busy [name]Phillips[/name] has a daughter named [name]Birdie[/name] (as a real name), but I still think it she should have a more traditional name to use when she gets older. [name]How[/name] about [name]Bridget[/name] nn [name]Birdie[/name]?

We have a little [name]Birdie[/name]! We fell in love with this name too! Though, we decided it needed to be a nickname, so her full name is actually [name]Wren[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Amity[/name] with the nn of [name]Birdie[/name]. Everyone around her adores the name and the sweet nickname, we get compliments on it, and i mean, all the time. So go for it if you love it!

I agree with previous posters, [name]Birdie[/name] is adorable, but can you imagine a grown woman running around named [name]Birdie[/name]? other than you grandmother, obviously There are tons of beautiful names that can easily be lent the nn [name]Birdie[/name]. Also, but giving your daughter a formal name, you won’t ‘trap’ her with a name she could possibly be uncomfortable with. She may love [name]Birdie[/name] and decide to go by it as an adult, but she may also hate it or want a more ‘age appropriate’ name and be grateful that you named her [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Robyn[/name], [name]Bernice[/name], [name]Raven[/name], or something.

I never thought of using it as a nickname! Loving all the positive feedback on the name!! Thanks everyone!

[name]How[/name] about [name]Bertie[/name]? Same pronunciation, but not so juvenile looking on a resume.

Since it is a family name, I think i’d like to stick with the spelling… BUT i have considered spelling it Birdee instead of [name]Birdie[/name]. Is that still as juvenile looking or does it look more grown? I love the name, but just torn as how to spell and use it!

I am sorry. Sometimes you get some rude people on here. Sometimes you don’t get much feedback as you may hope for. There are a few people on here who try to comment to as many of these threads as possible, being honest but critical. I still consider myself fairly new, I think it says Senior Member now only due to the sheer volume of replies I try to give. However, even in that brief experience I have learned the trick is to be aggressive in posting. If you don’t get an answer, post it again. These threads get swallowed up pretty quickly so you have to be persistent! And when someone is clearly being a jerk about things, see as the word of a jerk and realize it doesn’t matter. I’m sure your girls have lovely names.

I think [name]Birdie[/name] is cute. If you want to use that as a name you can do it. I wouldn’t adjust the spelling though. Birdee looks silly, I just dislike creatively spelled names. The look illiterate to me.

However, keep in mind that if your SO doesn’t like the name, [name]Birdie[/name] is easily the cutest nn I’ve heard lately!

And no, I don’t think it’s outdated. I mean, this is the age for “vintage names” making a comeback, why shouldn’t [name]Birdie[/name] join the ranks?

[name]Love[/name] [name]Birdie[/name]! I don’t think I’d ever have the guts to use it, but I think it’s adorable. Maybe name her [name]Wren[/name] or something and call her [name]Birdie[/name] as a nn.

I find that oddly spelled names look illiterate to me too! Thanks for that input. I prefer [name]Birdie[/name] anyway. Oh and I love [name]Elsa[/name]! Good job on your names! These positive comments are making me more set in following my heart!
