[name]Asher[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] looks awesome written down, and both names have a similar feel to them which makes it seem like a great combo. My problem with this combo is that the back to back r’s run into each other when you say the name out loud (the same is true for the other r names on your list). I also don’t think a one syllable middle is ideal given that you have a one syllable last name, so in light of these considerations I voted for [name]Asher[/name] [name]Callum[/name] [name]Wood[/name]. BUT, I think I would actually prefer something even longer in the middle, like [name]Asher[/name] [name]Donovan[/name] [name]Wood[/name].
On another note, while [name]Asher[/name] is a great name, I think if you don’t love it, then you might want to consider looking for more names. The name you choose should be something you both adore. It shouldn’t feel like you lost out on using [name]Ezra[/name] or [name]Malcolm[/name], but like you found something you love so much that [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Malcolm[/name] pale in comparison. By the way, I think [name]Asher[/name] is a wonderful name, but I think I might hesitate to use it with your last name because [name]Ash[/name] is a type of wood, so if he ends up going by [name]Ash[/name], then [name]Ash[/name] [name]Wood[/name] sounds kind of funny as a name.

[name]Hi[/name]!

I second JLM’s thoughts, and love her suggestion of [name]Asher[/name] [name]Donovan[/name]. I think a longer middle name sounds great! (I think that JLM made a really good point about ash wood…)

I’m so sorry about [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Malcolm[/name], and hope you can find a name you both love. My favorite of your [name]Asher[/name] combos is [name]Asher[/name] [name]Lochlan[/name] [name]Wood[/name].

Take care!

I picked [name]Asher[/name] [name]Lochlan[/name] [name]Wood[/name]. But what about a double middle? [name]Asher[/name] [name]Lochlan[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] [name]Wood[/name]. Or (I really love this:)) [name]Asher[/name] [name]Lincoln[/name] [name]Wood[/name].

Scratch that! [name]Lincoln[/name] [name]Wood[/name] reminds me of [name]Lincoln[/name] Logs. And to be honest [name]Asher[/name] [name]Wood[/name] makes me think of wood ashes. But [name]Asher[/name] is a great name!

[name]Asher[/name] [name]Lochlan[/name] for me.

I picked [name]Asher[/name] [name]Hawk[/name] because I love family names. And [name]Hawk[/name] is a really fun name! Another option is the name [name]Gavin[/name] which means “little hawk”.

I like [name]Asher[/name] [name]Calum[/name] [name]Wood[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] [name]Lachlan[/name] [name]Wood[/name], but only spelt these ways, the traditional spellings.

I third jlm’s suggestion of a 3 syllable middle though, I think this would make the name flow really well!

Thanks so much for your reply, jlm.

I kinda feel like I owe my husband the name [name]Asher[/name]. He really wanted to name our last son [name]Asher[/name] but I was stuck on [name]Leo[/name] and he obliged me even though he wasn’t completely sold on it. I do like [name]Asher[/name] much more now than I did a couple of years ago…it just doesn’t make me swoon like [name]Malcolm[/name] or [name]Ezra[/name] do.

I mentioned the “[name]Ash[/name]” [name]Wood[/name] thing to him but he’s not overly concerned. He says we’ll just be sure to only call him [name]Asher[/name] but you know it’s going to get shortened to [name]Ash[/name] at least some of the time, right? He just doesn’t see that as an issue.

The only alternative I can think of is [name]Callum[/name] [name]Asher[/name] [name]Wood[/name]. [name]Callum[/name] has the same meaning as [name]Malcolm[/name] (which is one of the reasons that name appeals to me so much) and I love the nn: [name]Cal[/name]. I think I could sell him on [name]Callum[/name] but I want him to love his son’s name as much as I do. Of all the boys names we’ve discussed over the past two years, [name]Asher[/name] is the one he goes back to.

Any advice?

Thank you so much for your input (you too, jill!). it means more than you know

[name]How[/name] interesting! I just discovered this message board and made a post that we are also considering [name]Asher[/name] and [name]Ezra[/name] for our baby boy.

I voted for [name]Asher[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] [name]Wood[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] [name]Lochlan[/name] [name]Wood[/name].
[name]Even[/name] with the back to back “r’s” I still think [name]Asher[/name] [name]Rhys[/name] works very well. The “k” and “l” sounds of [name]Lochlan[/name], compliment [name]Asher[/name].
I will tell you that [name]Asher[/name] will most likely get shortened to [name]Ash[/name]. I have sister named [name]Ashley[/name] and we do call her [name]Ash[/name] at times and so do her friends. When she started smoking, as a way to tease her we called her ashtray. Horrible I know.
All that said I like [name]Ash[/name] as a nn. [name]Ash[/name] [name]Wood[/name] does feel very natural, dare I say almost hippie. Not that being hippie is a bad thing, I like to call it “granola”. I hope none of that was taken wrong, all this being said from some one who was almost named [name]Sunshine[/name].

Hey followleader! I like your style!

No offense taken
I think you’re right…
One of my hesitations with the name [name]Asher[/name] is that it will be shortened to [name]Ash[/name] and that makes it sound feminine to me. I know that [name]Ashley[/name] can be a male name too but [name]Ash[/name]/[name]Ashley[/name] sounds all girl to me.

I appreciate your reply-thank you!

Okay. The more I think about it, the [name]Ash[/name] [name]Wood[/name] thing is troubling me. I mentioned it agian to my hubby last night and he just doesn’t see what the big deal is. He says that “[name]Ash[/name]” is still a cool nickname and he doesn’t think that people are going to put together the “wood” and “ash” connection b/c most people don’t say full names all together.

What should I say? He really has his heart set on this name and I can’t change our last name. I don’t want to turn it into an argument with him but I also don’t want to be aggravated by my kid’s name for the rest of my life.

Advice?

:{

Thanks-

I am sure you have tried this but what about [name]Archer[/name] [name]Wood[/name]? [name]Arch[/name] or [name]Archie[/name] is adorable but [name]Archer[/name] is not that long and I doubt it would ever get a nn.

I think there is room for compromise here. [name]Ash[/name] [name]Wood[/name] would make people laugh but it would be fine in the middle name spot.

It pays to have a look at the name and if it is going to be a potential problem for the child change it.

I would love to use [name]Asher[/name] in the middle name slot. My hubby wants him to be called [name]Asher[/name]. I’m afraid that if I ask him to come up with another name or names that he likes equally that they are gonna be crazy. He has thrown around [name]Thor[/name] and [name]Wulf[/name] and I’m not sure he’s joking about those or not. I, btw, would not sign off on those. Our first son’s name is [name]Leo[/name] [name]Magnus[/name] [name]Wood[/name]. He pushed hard for [name]Magnus[/name] and finally accepted the middle spot. I just feel like he should really love this kid’s name too.

Thanks for your input!

[name]Tara[/name] could you get him to agree to [name]Ashton[/name] as it doesn’t so obviously have the wood, fire, ash theme?

I don’t like [name]Ashton[/name] b/c I think of [name]Ashton[/name] Kutcher and he annoys me immensely.
I have no idea where he even heard the name [name]Asher[/name] but he’s like a dog with a bone with that name.

I’m just gonna try to wear him down. I’ve told him about what other posters have said about the combination and I’m hoping he’s taking it to heart. I know he won’t want his child to be picked on.

Thank you, rollo!

[name]Tara[/name]

[name]Dashiell[/name] could also get you the nn [name]Ash[/name].

[name]Tara[/name] can I ask you to blimp out my gd’s name in your post. Thanks so much.
