My (itty bitty) short list

Unlike my short list for girls (which isn’t actually what anyone could call short) my short list for boys is miniscule. I feel like there must be all these great names out there that I’m missing out on. My short list for boys hasn’t changed in ages and I just wonder if I’m missing out on something wonderful because I’m more willing to be daring with a girl and more stolid and practical in my boys choices.

My boy’s mn will lkely be [name]Michael[/name] for someone very important to me who passed away.

My teensy tinsy short list for boys is:

[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Liam[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Kai[/name]

I did recently discover [name]Ronan[/name] which I quite like but I wonder if it isn’t too…Irish? for a baby who will be half Korean.

1 [name]Kai[/name]
2 [name]Felix[/name]
3 [name]Noah[/name]
4 [name]Ronan[/name]
5 [name]Liam[/name]

[name]Liam[/name] is Irish as well as [name]Ronan[/name] but maybe not as much. I think [name]Kai[/name] would be a great choice for a half Korean child. Here are some other suggestions of names without borders (eg. chosen by many cultures).

[name]Adam[/name]
[name]Adrian[/name]
[name]David[/name]
[name]Elias[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Ivan[/name]
[name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Reuben[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name]
[name]Victor[/name]

I love [name]Kai[/name] [name]Michael[/name] for a baby boy that will be half Korean. [name]Felix[/name] [name]Michael[/name] would get my second vote. [name]Noah[/name] and [name]Liam[/name] are nms.

[name]Kai[/name] and [name]Noah[/name] are currently the very top of my list but I was a little bit afraid that [name]Kai[/name] [name]Michael[/name] didn’t flow right with the long I sound at the end of [name]Kai[/name] and at the end of the first syllable of [name]Michael[/name].

[name]Noah[/name] [name]Michael[/name] flows beautifully but a little boy on my niece’s dad’s side of the family named [name]Noah[/name] and I can’t abide his mother which kind of ruins the name just the tiniest bit for me.

I adore [name]Liam[/name] but was worried about both popularity and its Irishness on a half Korean child. I don’t want to embarass my child in some way, like giving him a name innaorpriate to his culture. Am I overthinking it?

It’s true that [name]Liam[/name] and [name]Ronan[/name] are distinctly Irish while [name]Kai[/name] sounds more…well, not Korean specifically, but Hawaiian or [name]Pan[/name]-[name]Asian[/name]. The issue of giving a child a name that’s strongly of one ethnicity if the child is not obviously of that ethnic background is one that’s perennially up for discussion. [name]Will[/name] a [name]Liam[/name] who looks [name]Asian[/name] get comments from others? Sometimes, but that’s more about their insensitivity than any problem on his part.

I really don’t see any problem with [name]Kai[/name] [name]Michael[/name]. Yes, there is some overlap on the sounds, but it’s pretty musical and since [name]Michael[/name] means so much to you, I think that trumps everything. [name]Felix[/name] is a great name too.

A few ideas related to your other favorites. [name]How[/name] do you feel about [name]Leo[/name]? [name]How[/name] about [name]Roan[/name] or [name]Rowan[/name] instead of [name]Ronan[/name]?

[name]Kai[/name] [name]Michael[/name] sounds fine to me! I think [name]Kai[/name] would be gorgeous on a half Korean little boy.

[name]Pam[/name] thanks so much for the suggestions. I’m probably completely overthinking. [name]Kai[/name] is at the top of my list and I agree that it does sound the most…[name]Asian[/name] in general. I seem to have a thing for Irish names tho. Ironically, my top girl’s name is also Irish but for some reason I don’t feel like it has the same issue with feeling “WOW that’s IRISH on that obviously [name]Asian[/name] little girl.”

I like [name]Leo[/name] but it sounds more like a nn for something longer. Plus, my sister’s dog is named [name]Leo[/name] so that would be weird. I like [name]Roan[/name] for a nn for [name]Ronan[/name] but I really like the full [name]Ronan[/name] best (plus I think the meaning is adorable). [name]Rowan[/name] is nice as well but not as far up my list.

Sheflies, thank you. I am probably overthinking the overlapping sounds. [name]Just[/name] trying to make sure it’s exactly right.

[name]Noah[/name]: [name]Noam[/name], [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Jonas[/name], [name]Nathan[/name], [name]Nathaniel[/name], [name]Nehemiah[/name], [name]Noel[/name], [name]Nolan[/name], [name]Jude[/name]
[name]Liam[/name]: [name]William[/name] nn [name]Liam[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Callum[/name], [name]Malcolm[/name], [name]Logan[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]: [name]Max[/name], [name]Peter[/name], [name]Philip[/name], [name]Alex[/name], [name]Ezekiel[/name]
[name]Kai[/name]: [name]Malachi[/name], [name]Kyle[/name], [name]Keith[/name], [name]Kiefer[/name],
[name]Ronan[/name]: [name]Owen[/name], [name]Colin[/name], [name]Robert[/name], [name]Lennon[/name], [name]Desmond[/name]

Good luck! I don’t at all mind an Irish name on a child with Korean heritage, but, only you can decide in the end and it does look like you have plenty of non-Irish versions if you decide not to go that way, so not to worry! Good luck!

My vote goes to [name]Kai[/name] [name]Michael[/name]. If you’re in the US, I don’t think anyone would bat an eye at a boy with an Irish name regardless of his heritage. Irish names are so trendy that I don’t think anyone would notice. Most people wouldn’t even know that [name]Ronan[/name] and [name]Liam[/name] are Irish names.

LOVING [name]Kai[/name]!!! [name]Noah[/name] is great too.
I knew a half Chinese boy called [name]Liam[/name], and the fact he was part [name]Asian[/name] with an Irish name never crossed my mind to be honest. If pushed to think about it I may have guessed his name came from an Irish background from the non-[name]Asian[/name] side.
If you like Irish names, I think they can work as he will be half Korean not full Korean- all aspects of backgrounds are valuable.

I like [name]Felix[/name] micheal

I like all your choices, but some of them flow a bit awkwardly for me. When I say [name]Kai[/name] [name]Michael[/name], I hear [name]Carmichael[/name] just a little bit. [name]Liam[/name] [name]Michael[/name] also runs together for for me. So if the flow is important I would go with [name]Noah[/name] or [name]Felix[/name], otherwise I think you have 4 great choices! Good luck!
