My last name is ruining my favorite name

We love the name [name_u]Finn[/name_u] for a boy, [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_u]Finley[/name_u] for a girl but our last name is one syllable and begins with an F. Like [name_m]Ford[/name_m]. It’s too much F’s, right? Is there a miracle middle name that can fix this? We have two middle names for each of our other children.

I don’t think it has to ruin it. Alliteration is not always a bad thing - depending on the names themselves, it can sound rather cool. (For a girl, she may likely take a spouse’s last name one day, so it may not be an issue in the long run, lol.)

I don’t think it has to ruin it. If it helps at all, I know someone with a name very similar to [name_u]Finn[/name_u] F0rd and it doesn’t really sound bad to me

I think alliteration names are cute! I can see what you mean if they are both one syllable, but I really don’t think it has to be a deal breaker.

Thank you all. I know alliteration isn’t always bad but the same syllables and everything. [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_m]Ford[/name_m] didn’t feel as bad as [name_u]Finn[/name_u] [name_m]Ford[/name_m] does and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is my favorite! Hopefully I’ll start finding it cute if I keep telling myself it is lol

I don’t think it sounds inherently bad, although having a two or more syllable first name might help it sound better to your ear since the F sounds will be farther apart.

Would you consider a longer name that shortens to [name_u]Finn[/name_u]? That way when he’s younger he can be [name_u]Finn[/name_u] (or even Finney,) which is cute and fine. Then when he’s older, should he want to professionally introduce himself first and last name as “[name_m]Phineas[/name_m] [name_m]Ford[/name_m]” or “[name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] [name_m]Ford[/name_m]” or “[name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_m]Ford[/name_m]” he could always do that, then let people know, “you can call me [name_u]Finn[/name_u].” Or “I go by [name_u]Finn[/name_u].”

I don’t think the alliteration is too big of an issue, I think both names being just one syllables with the same start is the problem. [name_m]Findlay[/name_m] [name_m]Ford[/name_m], or [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] [name_m]Ford[/name_m] sounds fine to me, as does [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_m]Ford[/name_m]. [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] [name_m]Ford[/name_m] sounds better than [name_u]Finn[/name_u], as the L changed the sound of the F to not be so repetitive.

I am actually a big fan of alliteration, so I don’t think it ruins them at all!
