My mother has always been unafraid to voice her opinions on names I am pondering, or to offer “suggestions,” and literally most anything I come up with, she’s not a fan. I had dinner with her a few days ago, and we were chatting about the [name]Royal[/name] [name]Baby[/name]'s name. I brought up the name [name]Leopold[/name] as one that would have been neat to hear on the new prince, and she immediately says, “[name]Leopold[/name], that’s a cool name.” I was flabbergasted.
For a long while now my favorite boy name has been [name]Leo[/name], although [name]Leopold[/name] I have a soft spot for. I’m a little bit conflicted because I feel as if I have settled in with [name]Leo[/name] already, yet the idea of using [name]Leopold[/name] is tempting. Tempting as a more unusual name / name that actually has grandparent approval. OTOH, I’m not sure how much my mother’s opinion should matter, as our relationship is rocky at times; it’s not like we’re the best friend sort of mom and daughter.
Furthermore, the middle name I’d planned on using with [name]Leo[/name] is [name]Kendrick[/name], which semi-honors my grandfather [name]Kenneth[/name], but without using his exact name. It’s the only family name I’d ever use because no other relative I’d want to honor. But - [name]Leopold[/name] doesn’t seem to flow as well with [name]Kendrick[/name] as [name]Leo[/name] does. Or does it?
Basically, I’m looking for some advice, what would you do in my situation?
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name]
[name]Leopold[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name]
[name]Leopold[/name] + new MN other than [name]Kendrick[/name]?
I actually think [name]Leopold[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name] sounds better than [name]Leo[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name]. I like the flow a lot better. I think it’s great that your mom like [name]Leopold[/name] and even though her opinion shouldn’t really matter, it’s nice to have a name she likes that you also like and has [name]Leo[/name] for you in there, and you could still keep [name]Kendrick[/name] as I think the flow is great.
Personally I think [name]Leopold[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name] has a better flow than [name]Leo[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name]. [name]Leopold[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name] is a very handsome name. Having said that, I don’t think your Moms opinion ahould sway your name choices to heavily.
[name]Leopold[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name] is my favorite among your choices. I think it’s distinguished. I adore [name]Leopold[/name] as well. It feels more complete than [name]Leo[/name] and softer than [name]Leonard[/name] or [name]Leonardo[/name].
I agree that [name]Leopold[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name] sounds better than [name]Leo[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name]. As another middle suggestion, what about [name]Leopold[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name] (which is derived from the Gaelic spelling of [name]Kenneth[/name])?
I love [name]Leopold[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name]. Most definitely [name]Leopold[/name] over [name]Leo[/name]. You can always call him [name]Leo[/name] as a nn if you want…
I like both [name]Leopold[/name] and [name]Leo[/name], and I think [name]Leopold[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name] sounds great.
I would use [name]Leopold[/name]. It could be a way of honoring your mother as well, and [name]Leopold[/name] is a good name to fall back on if little [name]Leo[/name] grow up and feels that he needs/wants a longer name.
Wow, I’m amazed at the overwhelming majority in the responses! You guys are making me feel a bit more confident about [name]Leopold[/name] [name]Kendrick[/name], which I appreciate. I’m going to put it on my list and sit on it a while to see if it sticks. Thank you for all the lovely comments
