My husband and I are having our first daughter in [name]September[/name] and up until a few weeks ago, we were sold on [name]Winona[/name] as a first name and [name]Lake[/name] as a middle name. ([name]Lake[/name] is not going away, as it has meaning to us.)
We got wrapped up in two things about [name]Winona[/name]: 1) [name]Winona[/name] [name]Ryder[/name] didn’t escape our minds, 2) [name]Winona[/name] [name]Lake[/name] is an actual place, which felt weird to us.
So, we have since been strongly considering [name]Susanna[/name] [name]Lake[/name]. We both love the name [name]Susanna[/name], but here’s my question:
My name is [name]Anne[/name]. Is it weird to name my daughter [name]Susanna[/name]? I’m really on the fence here. I also go by “[name]Annie[/name]” and we would likely nickname her "[name]Zuzu[/name],"but I’m aware that people might call her “[name]Anna[/name]” or even “[name]Annie[/name].”
Let me know your thoughts (or any other name ideas!)
I think [name]Susanna[/name] [name]Lake[/name] is lovely. I honestly like it more the [name]Winona[/name] [name]Lake[/name]. I dont’ think it’s wierd that your name is [name]Anna[/name] and her name would be [name]Susanna[/name]. I would be more inclined to call her [name]Zuzu[/name] or [name]Susie[/name] then [name]Anna[/name] or [name]Annie[/name]. I think it’s a great name and you should go for it.
Not to throw a wrench in the works, but [name]Susana[/name] [name]Lake[/name] is a place, too just fyi. (yes, I realize the spelling is slightly different.)
Re: [name]Anne[/name] with a [name]Susanna[/name], no, I don’t think it’s odd. No harm in it at all.
I don’t think it’s a problem. The default nickname for [name]Susanna[/name] is [name]Susie[/name], not [name]Anna[/name] or [name]Annie[/name]. [name]Zuzu[/name] is cute for a little girl.
Agree- the more common nickname is definately [name]Susie[/name]/ [name]Sue[/name] or as you suggested [name]ZuZu[/name]. I think it rather nice to have your name incorporated actually.
I love [name]Susanna[/name], and I actually love the fact that it also incorporates your name. I don’t think that [name]Anna[/name] nor [name]Annie[/name] is an obvious nickname, so I would go for it. Beautiful!
Another random thought – even if people think that [name]Susanna[/name] is a tie-in to your name, [name]Anne[/name], there’s no harm in that at all. I know an [name]Ami[/name] with a baby girl named [name]Mia[/name]… only after a few months did it occur to me that that may have been a tie-in, and I think it’s sweet if that’s the case.
So either way, coincidence or purposeful, it’s completely fine
I love [name]Susanna[/name] [name]Lake[/name]! Maybe to avoid the [name]Anna[/name] nickname, spell it [name]Susannah[/name]. I don’t think it’s too close to your name and you should go for it! [name]May[/name] I ask why [name]Lake[/name] is meaningful to you and your Dh? [name]Just[/name] curious.
i don’t mean to cause an issue but since i am struggling with my second daughter’s name, i just want to mention that if you name your daughter susanna, incorporating your name, just give a little thought to what you would do if you have a second daughter. would you feel bad if she didn’t get part of your name too? i’m sure there would be a solution but as i said, i am just struggling with a second daughter’s name so felt like i should throw this out there so you can think about it now ahead of time…otherwsie i think its fine, after naming my first daughter i realized that the vowels in my name are the same as in my daughter’s and i really loved the connection!
