My naming dilemma

I’ve got a bit of a naming dilemma. I am six months pregnant with my second child. My husband and I wanted the gender to be a surprise and so we decided not to find out boy or girl. I have daughter from a previous marriage, [name]Quinn[/name] [name]Katelyn[/name] (13). He has two boys from a previous marriage, [name]Riley[/name] [name]Jordan[/name] (12) and [name]Marcus[/name] [name]Emmett[/name] (8). With there being such a big age gap between the kids and the baby, I am wondering how much the names of our kids should play into the name of this baby. Should they “go together”? We are completely stumped for names right now. My husband’s ex-wife picked out his boys’ names and it took me months to decide on [name]Quinn[/name] [name]Katelyn[/name]. Some names the kids have suggested are [name]Haley[/name], [name]Megan[/name], [name]Leia[/name], [name]Miley[/name], and [name]Selena[/name] for a girl and [name]Jason[/name], Anakin, [name]Luke[/name], Han, and [name]Obi[/name] Wan for a boy (ha!). As you can see we really need some help.

LOL. [name]Walker[/name] [name]Luke[/name] would be a bit more of a subtle tribute to SW than [name]Obi[/name]-Wan.

As far as “going with your sibset,” or whatever, personally - I’ve never believed in that. (I hate the word “set,” even - they’re people, not furniture or dishes.) The only thing that I think is important is that nobody’s name sounds too much like the other’s. Like [name]Riley[/name] and [name]Haley[/name] are too close, [name]IMO[/name]. [name]Finn[/name] is off limits, as is [name]Silas[/name].

[name]Quinn[/name] is super, though NMSAA. Doesn’t sound like you need any help to me, but what sorts of names appeal to you?

whistlinggirl: I feel the same way when it comes to my kids’ names. I just wanted to know if maybe I was missing something when it came to that. In regards to what sort of names we’re looking for, we really don’t know. I can’t get my husband to look at names so what’s happening right now is I suggest and he vetoes. [name]Josiah[/name], [name]Holden[/name], and [name]Casey[/name] for a boy and [name]Leah[/name], [name]Alison[/name], and [name]Georgia[/name] were all vetoed. Hopefully that helps a little.

I agree with whistlinggirl. Give your child a name you like; doesn’t have to fit your children’s names!

Some that you may like:

[name]Lillian[/name] nn [name]Lily[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name] nn [name]Bea[/name]
[name]Louisa[/name] (close to [name]Leah[/name]?)

Boys are harder…
[name]Lucas[/name] (close to [name]Luke[/name]!)
[name]William[/name] nn [name]Liam[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] that helps!

Your kids’ suggestions made me laugh. I’ll take a guess and say that you have three devoted Disney [name]Channel[/name] and [name]Star[/name] Wars fans in your house. Here are some suggestions. Sorry for any repeats.

nicole_1024: I like [name]Margot[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Violet[/name], and [name]Willow[/name] for girls and [name]Nathan[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Elliot[/name], [name]Micah[/name], [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name].

agirlinred: Haha, yes, we definitely do! From your suggestions, I like [name]Keegan[/name], [name]Grant[/name], [name]Eli[/name], [name]Brendon[/name], [name]Owen[/name], [name]Ethan[/name], [name]Logan[/name], [name]Reid[/name], [name]Levi[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Nolan[/name], [name]Patrick[/name], [name]Hayden[/name], and [name]Carson[/name] for boys. As for girls I like [name]Kennedy[/name], [name]Avery[/name], [name]Rowan[/name], and [name]Harper[/name].

Thanks for the suggestions, ladies. I will run them by my husband and see what he thinks.

For a girl, I love the name [name]Carly[/name] for you. I don’t know why, but as soon as I started thinking of names to “go” with [name]Quinn[/name], [name]Riley[/name], and [name]Marcus[/name] (but not be too similar or matchy), I thought of [name]Carly[/name]. I think [name]Quinn[/name] [name]Katelyn[/name], [name]Riley[/name] [name]Jordan[/name], [name]Marcus[/name] [name]Emmett[/name], and [name]Carly[/name] _____ would be great!

If you don’t like [name]Carly[/name], I’d also suggest [name]Macy[/name], [name]Piper[/name], [name]Parker[/name], [name]Maya[/name], or [name]Zoe[/name]. I actually just met a lady today who was babysitting her two-month-old granddaughter, whose name was [name]Parker[/name]… and I’ve heard of at least two other girl [name]Parker[/name]'s as well.

For a boy… I always have a harder time coming up with boys’ names. [name]How[/name] about [name]Hayden[/name], [name]Dillon[/name], [name]Dustin[/name], [name]Max[/name], or [name]Milo[/name]? Any of those working for you and hubby?

HTH!
