My new 2024 list!

After many many years away from nameberry, I’ve got the bug again and wanted to hear anyone’s thoughts on my new, updated 2024 list!

Would love to hear any thoughts, or any sibsets that you think stand out!

Since my last time at Nameberry, I’ve used the name Clover for my dog and I’m having major regrets about not saving it for a (hopefully near) future child :joy:

I love [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], but with the “y” ending - [name_f]Nelly[/name_f].
[name_f]Nella[/name_f] is also beautiful :butterfly:

I have also been toying with [name_f]Nella[/name_f], so funny you should say that! I love [name_f]Nella[/name_f] with the opportunity of the cutesy Nellie/Nelly nickname as well

@Bemsy_1 yes, I agree… [name_f]Nella[/name_f] could have the nn [name_f]Nelly[/name_f] haha. If my husband doesn’t say no to it then I’m actually considering using it for my future daughter, I’m so picky with names but this one is just so perfect sounding to me. I think it would fit my son’s name [name_m]Artemio[/name_m] + [name_f]Nella[/name_f] :sparkles:

I like every single name on your list so I will :bangbang:for obsessed, :sparkling_heart: for love and  for like!

My thoughts on each of the names:

Delilah (such a lovely sounding name! I love the nickname Della)
Posy (reminds me of flower gardens and picnics on checkered blankets :slightly_smiling_face:)
Nellie (I love Nell and Nella, but I don’t like Nellie as much because I’m a big Little House on the Prairie fan and it makes me think of the character on the show )
Cecily (this makes me think of the sweet Cecily in L. M. Montgomery’s books The Story Girl and The Golden Road. It’s such a friendly name, and Cece is adorable)
Marnie (makes me think of the ocean for some reason. I really like it!)
Beatrix (so sparkly and fun! Bea is awesome)
Juniper (fun, but not my style personally. I prefer just June)
Athena (gorgeous!)
Daphne (makes me think of violets and the color purple, the purple part probably because of the Daphne character in Scooby Doo, who’s always wearing purple)
Daisy (very sweet, along the lines of Cecily in style. These two would make wonderful sisters)
Twila (beautiful! It’s very close to the word twilight, so when I think of this name I picture the last colorful rays of the sun going down. I love it!)
Polly (makes me think of the Pollyanna movie starring Hayley Mills, who plays cheerful and chatty Pollyanna. It’s a positive association)
Betty (pretty, just not my style)
Martha (wonderful classic. I’m drawn to ths in names :slightly_smiling_face:)
Edie (cute! I’ve always liked it as a nickname for Edith, but I like it by itself as well)
Bessie (also pretty, but not my style)
Ramona (also lovely)
Winnie (I love Winnie! It’s such a fun, carefree name.
Jemima (I can appreciate its interesting sounds! I like the nicknames Jem and Mim for it)
Bonnie (so sweet! It makes me think of baby bunnies )
Clara (it makes me think of ballerinas. Very beautiful)

and

Otis (such a fun name! Totally underappreciated. It reminds me of Christmastime for some reason )
Rufus (charming. I love Rufus)
Otto (another awesome name. Otto is one of my favorites)
Bruno (a little too rough for my tastes, but I can appreciate the appeal)
August (so handsome. August is one of my favorite months, and one of my favorite names. Gus is such a cute nickname for it)
Gabriel (very handsome. I really like it)
Wesley (my favorite boy name of all time! I simply adore it)
Barney (I know a Barney who’s a goofy, humorous fellow so that’s what I think of. It’s a great name)
Sonny (I prefer this more as a term of endearment or as a nickname for -son names like Harrison or Mason)
Woody (nice! I love it as a nickname for Woodrow, but it works well on its own too)

Athena Daisy would be such an adorable combo btw!

Hello! [name_f]Love[/name_f] your list! I’ll make some general comments on each of the name, and rate them 1-10 on how much I like them (just my opinion of course, they’re all lovely and names are subjective!)

Girls:
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] (Della) - Not my style, but a very nice-sounding/flowy name with sunny yet mature vibes. I prefer just [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], but that’s just me preferring shorter names! [name_f]Della[/name_f] is again not my favourite, but I still like it’s pretty cute! 5/10
[name_f]Posy[/name_f] - I LOVE [name_f]Posy[/name_f]! I think it’s completely adorable. This is my favourite spelling of the name, as well. 9/10
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f] - I just think of an elephant, lol. That’s not a bad association (love elephants!) but it is what I think of. It also sounds strangely nasally to me but it definitely appeals to the short, sweet names you have on your list. 4/10
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] - This was one of my favourite names for around three years - and I still have a soft spot for it! I think it’s delightful, and [name_f]Cece[/name_f] is a great nickname! It’s not my style anymore, but I love it for other people! 8/10
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f] - I’m so in love with this name. I think it’s fun and sunny and insanely wearable if that names sense. Like the name is lived-in, in a good way, lol. One of my favourites on your list 10/10
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] (Bea) - I’ve never totally got the appeal of [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], though I’m enthralled by the X which adds a lot of spark to the name. I love the nickname [name_f]Bea[/name_f], however. 7/10
[name_f]Juniper[/name_f] (Junie/Juno) - I like [name_f]Juniper[/name_f], but I greatly prefer [name_f]June[/name_f] or [name_f]Juno[/name_f] as the full name, for some reason. [name_f]Junie[/name_f] is a lovely nickname. [name_f]Juno[/name_f] would be my choice - I think it’s so uniquely beautiful. [name_f]Juniper[/name_f] is a 6/10, but [name_f]Juno[/name_f] is an easy 10/10
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] - I can definitely see the appeal of this name, but it doesn’t jump out at me as one of my favs on your list. 6/10
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - I really like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]! I love the flower, as well, and the names got great imagery. I couldn’t personally use (I know many Daisys irl, not all whom I like) but I adore it for others! 9/10
[name_f]Twila[/name_f] - I see twig. Twig would actually make a cool boys name but with [name_f]Twila[/name_f] it’s not quite there and therefore reads odd to me. Overall, not my favourite but that’s just me. 4/10
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] - One of my favourite! Again, it reads so cool to me. 9/10
[name_f]Betty[/name_f] - Not my style, I can’t imagine a child called this but that would definitely change if i met a little [name_f]Betty[/name_f]! 5/10
[name_f]Martha[/name_f] - I personally know many Martha’s, so my opinion of this name is clouded by that fact (they wear the name very well, btw!). I’m just not a fan of the sounds. To me, it sounds heavy and clunky. 4/10
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] - So underrated and so cool! Maybe I’m just a fan of girls’ names that end in an ‘ee’ sound lol. I prefer this as a full name over a nickname for something else. 9/10
[name_f]Bessie[/name_f] - not my style in the same way [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] & [name_f]Betty[/name_f] aren’t either. I find the sounds quite unappealing but that’s just me! 4/10
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f] - Sorry for being so negative with a lot of these but I don’t really like [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] either. I just hear ‘Ram’ and ‘Moan’. It seems so heavy, especially on a child. Again, that’s just the imagery I get! 4/10
[name_f]Winnie[/name_f] - I read [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] the Pooh too much as a child to really get into this name. It’s very cute, but not my thing. 5/10
[name_f]Jemima[/name_f] - So underrated, especially on NB! I used to know a [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] when I was little and she made me, as a 6-year-old namenerd, obsessed with her name. I like the nickname [name_m]Jem[/name_m], as a suggestion of some sorts. I’m not as in love with it as I used to be, but I still like it! 7/10
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] - Very cutesy, which I like to an extent. I think it lacks… substance (?) when compared to my favourite names on your list. That said, I still really like it. 6/10
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - I don’t know how you’d pronounce this in your accent, but I’m british and therefore pronounce it pretty differently in my accent. The way I say it, I think it’s pretty cute, though I doesn’t stand out to me. In an American accent, it gives totally different vibes - very southern and very adventurous. Either way it’s not my exact thing. 6/10

Top 3 girls: [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] & [name_f]Polly[/name_f] (would be Juno)
Bottom 3 girls: [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f] & [name_f]Ramona[/name_f]

Boys:
[name_m]Otis[/name_m] - Used to be one of my absolute favs! I still think it’s so cool - a perfect mix of unique and familiar in my opinion. Overall, I love it. 10/10
[name_m]Rufus[/name_m] - I get really strong imagery of a ginger boy with a billion teddy bears - not sure if that’s good or not. I quite like the name, but it doesn’t stand out to me. 7/10
[name_m]Otto[/name_m] - I slightly prefer [name_m]Otis[/name_m], but [name_m]Otto[/name_m] is also fantastic. It reads as more… academic? to me, not sure why. 9/10
[name_m]Bruno[/name_m] - [name_f]My[/name_f] dog’s name! Unfortunately, I can’t really see it on a human baby, which is strange because I also know of a human called [name_m]Bruno[/name_m]. I hesitate to call any names ‘dog’s names’, but if I had to be honest [name_m]Bruno[/name_m] would be a dog’s name if I had to choose one lol. That’s only because of association, however. 5/10 for a human.
[name_m]August[/name_m] - Also in love with this name! I like the nickname [name_m]Gus[/name_m] for it. Overall, no complaints - it’s great 10/10
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] - [name_f]My[/name_f] brother’s name lol. I really like his name, especially the nickname [name_m]Gabe[/name_m]. 10/10
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] - Not my style, a bit too cowboy in my head for some reason. it sounds made up, strangely, which isn’t a bad thing but also is not a thing I like. 4/10
[name_m]Barney[/name_m] - [name_f]My[/name_f] primary association is this line of chocolate-flavoured bear-shaped cakes they sell where I live, the brand being [name_m]Barny[/name_m]. I still think the name is really cute, and the cake is nice so. I did have a period not long ago when I was obsessed with this name, and I still really like it! 8/10
[name_m]Sonny[/name_m] - Such a beautiful, sunny (no pun intended) name. I just think it’s great. 9/10
[name_m]Woody[/name_m] - I firstly think of [name_m]Woody[/name_m] from [name_m]Toy[/name_m] [name_f]Story[/name_f] - which it’s a bad association but a strong one. If not that I think of [name_m]Woody[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] and [name_m]Woody[/name_m] Harrelson also very quickly. And then I think wood. I’m not a huge fan of the name, for similar reasons to [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]. 4/10

Top 3 boys: [name_m]Otis[/name_m], [name_m]August[/name_m] & [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
Bottom 3 boys: [name_m]Bruno[/name_m], [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] & [name_m]Woody[/name_m]

[name_f]My[/name_f] fav sibsets:
Boy/Girl - [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] & [name_m]August[/name_m]
Girl/Girl - [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] & [name_f]Polly[/name_f]
Boy/Boy - [name_m]Otis[/name_m] & [name_m]Sonny[/name_m]

On [name_m]Hunter[/name_m], I think it’s definitely reached peak popularity. To me it seems like quite a violent name to give to a child.

Thank you for your thoughts! I’m glad you like them

Thank you so much, love those sibsets!

I should clarify that I meant the name berry namehunter tool rather than the name ‘Hunter’ but thank you anyway! Sorry I should have been clearer- maybe it’s been a while since it’s been around!

Thank you so much for your detailed thoughts!! Really appreciate it :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I’m [name_f]British[/name_f] as well, so I totally get some of your points! It’s also part of my concern with names such as [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] which are obviously a lot more common where we are, which somewhat puts me off but I can’t get past loving the name!

I should clarify that I meant the name berry namehunter tool rather than the name ‘Hunter’ but thank you anyway! Sorry I should have been clearer- maybe it’s been a while since it’s been around!

Lol i just had a laugh about the [name_m]Hunter[/name_m] thing - how silly of me!

Don’t let popularity put you off! I truly believe you should use a name if you like it - [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is definitely no exception - it’s brill!

 no, that’s just me not reading properly - it’s obvious now you;'ve pointed it out
