I love love love [name]Oliver[/name]. I would use the combo [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Liam[/name] in a heartbeat. Yet as both names are rather popular I have been thinking of less common name options.
Yesterday I was playing with a name I took a fancy to and came up with a new combo.
I am loving it:
[name]Cormac[/name] [name]Flynn[/name]
I like that it is masculine, gaelic yet not over used. I like the nn [name]Mac[/name].
I like your original choice of [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Liam[/name]. I don’t think it’s that common, especially not in the US. (Maybe [name]England[/name].) Plus, the other name you like…[name]Cormac[/name] [name]Flynn[/name]… Sounds like a character from the Flintstones. It’s so abrasive and hard. Is that an Irish name? Maybe my problem is that I have absolutely never heard of that name before so it sounds very strange to me. I think little [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Liam[/name] would be eternally grateful to you for not naming him [name]Cormac[/name]. I’m surprised by how many posts I’ve read have describe very unusual names. I have an unusual name and I very much did not like growing up having to constantly correct people on how to spell it and pronounce it.
[name]Cormac[/name] [name]Flynn[/name] sounds incredibly Irish so as a lover of all things [name]Ireland[/name], the name sounds heavenly. In my mind it definitely conveys a similar message as [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Liam[/name] but with the added perk of the all-boy nickname “[name]Mac[/name].”
First let me say that one of my top choices for names for our twins was [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Liam[/name]. I love both names and I actually even like them together. So I think your original combination was great.
As for [name]Cormac[/name] [name]Flynn[/name] I am a bit torn. I think the first name of [name]Cormac[/name] would be a great choice, but I am less sold on the [name]Flynn[/name] part of it. I wish I could elaborate as to why but I am having a hard time figuring it out. But it is not a bad combination in my mind.
I have to disagree with the pp that calls [name]Cormac[/name] an unusual name. It is perhaps uncommon, but I think it would be well enough known to be recognizable ([name]Cormac[/name] [name]McCarthy[/name]!) and the nn [name]Mac[/name] gives the option for blending in a bit more if he chooses to.
DD #2 was going to be [name]Liam[/name]. But here in [name]Oz[/name] [name]William[/name] and [name]Liam[/name] are [name]BOTH[/name] top 10 names. I wouldn’t want to saddle a kid with a megastar name.
Funny how people all seem to like [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Liam[/name] but bit hot and cold on [name]Cormac[/name] [name]Flynn[/name].
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]. [name]Oliver[/name] is lovely. I prefer [name]Oliver[/name] [name]William[/name] or [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Wilhelm[/name].
I like it! I prefer [name]Flynn[/name] to [name]Cormac[/name], so I would have loved to see [name]Flynn[/name] [name]Cormac[/name] instead, but it is really cool as it is.
I have to say, though–I love your original combo so much more! I’ve come to really adore [name]Oliver[/name].
ETA: [name]Just[/name] saw your comment–I don’t think it’s that [name]Cormac[/name]'s too unusual–it’s just that I love [name]Oliver[/name] more! I’m honestly not a huge fan of your [name]Oliver[/name] combo–I just like [name]Oliver[/name] so much more than [name]Cormac[/name]. I’m terribly picky about [name]Oliver[/name] combos, though–I’m not sure I’ve found one that I love, although I’ve come to quite like [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Samuel[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Daniel[/name].
