Since that post on people names becoming pet names, I’ve thought about my numerous pets.
[name]Austen[/name] (after [name]Jane[/name]) and [name]Bronte[/name] (after [name]Charlotte[/name]) are my canaries. Though they are females, we call them [name]Ozzi[/name] and Bro.
[name]Maxwell[/name] Smart (after the old TV show we love) is our bulldog. We call him [name]Max[/name], much to the consternation of my cousin, my sister’s boyfriend, and my son’s best friend (all named [name]Max[/name]).
[name]Lewis[/name] and [name]Clark[/name] are our sojourning cats. They were named after Meriwether and [name]William[/name], of course.
[name]Valencia[/name] and Naranja are our goldfish. [name]Valencia[/name] is a type of orange and Naranja is ‘orange’ in Spanish.
I don’t treat my animals like humans (and I certainly don’t name them like humans either!). But naming them gives me more freedom than naming a real child would.
My pets have pretty unusual names. My dog [name]Loki[/name] is named after the norse god of mischief. Originally I wanted to name him [name]Charlie[/name] and my sister wanted to name him [name]Toby[/name], so my mom picked the name. At first I hated it but know it fits him. My hamster is Maleficent nn [name]Mallie[/name] because when we first got her se bit. now she doesn’t, but we only call her by her nn anyway.
My cat is [name]Dakota[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Dakota[/name]- means friend
My ravishing black Lab mix (Chow) is named [name]Roxanne[/name] [name]Louise[/name]. My adorable grey striped kitty is named Mokie, and in case you didn’t know, he is [name]King[/name] of the Universe. He is even cuter than [name]Colin[/name] [name]Firth[/name], too!
Cuter than [name]Colin[/name] [name]Firth[/name]? No! [name]How[/name] is it possible?
My cats are Tufty and Cubbles
My dog is [name]Hamlet[/name] ([name]Boston[/name] Terrier - snorts a lot - sounds and looks like a little pig - husband said “no” to Piglet, so we went with [name]Ham[/name] to substitute with Pig, hence, [name]Hamlet[/name])
We’ve got one cat, an orange & white shorthair. Named [name]Sam[/name].
My kitty’s name is [name]Kennedy[/name] a name I love but would never use on a person. My husband just calls her Chunky though
My [name]Maine[/name] Coon cat’s name is [name]Emily[/name] [name]Anne[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]. I was nine at the time and thought it’d be cute to name her after the Bront” sisters because I love their books. She’s 14 now and just a peach.
My cat is Boo. She was either going to be Boo or Shorty, and I decided that I liked Boo more for the To Kill a Mockingbird connection.
my cats names are leah and simkin, the dogs are PJ (for priscilla jane) and robbie (real name is rob roy- he’s a scottie dog)
My mice were called [name]Agatha[/name] and Marple, after the Miss Marple books by [name]Agatha[/name] [name]Christie[/name]
My fish are:
[name]Fred[/name] - catfishy thing
[name]Millie[/name], [name]Macy[/name], [name]Martha[/name], [name]Mikey[/name], [name]Marcus[/name], [name]Moe[/name] - all m names - little silver fish
[name]Strawberry[/name], [name]Lemon[/name], [name]Apple[/name], [name]Cherry[/name], [name]Mango[/name], Pear - all fruit names - bigger than the “m” fish, silver with black stripes
Lady, [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Ellie[/name], [name]Penny[/name], [name]Mackenzie[/name], [name]Sunny[/name], [name]Pepper[/name] and Kite - all derived from Beatles songs - guppies.
I don’t really know what made me choose these names, I just needed names and those sets came into my head.
I also have a cat called [name]Lucy[/name] - short for [name]Lucy[/name] In The [name]Sky[/name] With Diamonds. Haha.
amy, i lovvvve your beatles pets names! I never would have thought of that, how cool!! Someday I might copy you.
Haha, thanks. I love them too. [:
Our cocker spaniel is named Jakobi [name]Diamond[/name] Girl, after a boy’s name we had picked out but never got to use and her pedigree parents. We call her [name]Kobi[/name] or [name]Kobi[/name] Girl.
Our Puggle is named Poncho after a dog my husband had growing up, but I call him Boy, [name]Buddy[/name], [name]Little[/name] [name]Man[/name], Brat Dog, etc.
Our orange tabby is called Pumpkin Pie, Punkin for short.
Our birds are [name]Patrick[/name], because we got him on [name]St[/name]. [name]Patrick[/name]'s [name]Day[/name], and Pally, a play on [name]Polly[/name] and pal, because we got her to help ease [name]Patrick[/name]'s loneliness.
We seem to be stuck on P names. I don’t know why. We used to have a retired racer greyhound named Poison Puff, puff for short. We didn’t name her, but I think she received the name from her flatulence problem.
I have three cats named
[name]Griffin[/name] (my husband calls him Griffiikins) [name]James[/name]
[name]Hunter[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Dexter[/name] [name]Daniel[/name]
I also have 2 Cavalier [name]King[/name] [name]Charles[/name] Spaniels called
[name]Ellie[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name]
[name]Aidan[/name] [name]Henry[/name]
Our labradoodle is [name]Sammy[/name], a girl… named after my childhood dog a big white standard poodle named [name]Sam[/name] who was a boy.
We only call her [name]Samantha[/name] when she’s in trouble
Ok [name]Sammy[/name] is too too cute!
Thanks! She is the best little girl we could have asked for! And as you can tell she loves the snow!
