My revamped list!

Hello berries! It’s been awhile since I last made a thread. I though maybe I should share my names and what few combos I have so far. Maybe you could help me with more combos, especially with boys names. I’m terrible at coming up with names for boys. Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

Girls

[name]Roberta[/name] [name]Barbara[/name]
- Honoring my parents. I prefer [name]Roberta[/name] over [name]Robert[/name]. Too old or dated? Another problem I have with this combo is that both names end in an “A” and has too many “B” sounds. Could I pull it off?
[name]Melinda[/name] [name]Edith[/name] - Honoring my grandparents. I actually think it works out pretty well.
[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Jean[/name] - Mine and my mom’s middle names. I like the nn [name]Betty[/name] and I could call her [name]Betty[/name]-[name]Jean[/name]. (My mn also honors my great-grandmother [name]Betty[/name])
[name]Geraldine[/name] - I have a huge name crush on this one. I can’t seem to find a MN though. Any suggestions?
[name]Vesper[/name] - My newest name crush. I could probably pull this one off as a middle name but I think it would make a great first name, too.
[name]Raphaela[/name] - My paternal great-grandmother’s name. I prefer it to be in the MN position. [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Raphaela[/name]? [name]Vesper[/name] [name]Raphaela[/name]?

Other names I like (but probably will never use)
[name]Nancy[/name]
[name]Martha[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Lucille[/name]

Sorry if my style is different from the rest of you berries’ styles. I guess I have a thing for dated names. The only one that doesn’t really fit in is [name]Vesper[/name]!

Boys

[name]Benedict[/name] - Has some teasing potential but nonetheless a favorite of mine
[name]Sidney[/name] - Sounds better on a boy than a girl [name]IMO[/name]
[name]Francis[/name] - I also like the female counterpart, [name]Frances[/name].
[name]Demetri[/name] - My number one most favorite boys name. Not too fond of the alternate spelling, [name]Dmitri[/name]. Looks incomplete or misspelled to me. I much prefer [name]Demetri[/name].
[name]Ambrose[/name] - Closely follows [name]Dmitri[/name] as one of my favorites
[name]Chester[/name] - Some might disagree that it’s a suitable name for a boy but I like it
[name]Oswald[/name] - A new name crush
[name]Slater[/name] - I don’t much like occupational surnames but I love [name]Slater[/name]
[name]Alphonse[/name] - All-around love this name, I don’t understand why. I can just imagine a little boy being called [name]Alphonse[/name]

Thank you!

  • [name]Danielle[/name]

[name]Roberta[/name] [name]Barbara[/name] - I think [name]Roberta[/name] could work, but I’m not sure about this combo. There is too much repetition of sound.
[name]Melinda[/name] [name]Edith[/name] - Yes, this combo does flow nicely!
[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Jean[/name] - This one flows nicely as well! It’s cute.
[name]Geraldine[/name] - I really wouldn’t name a child this, just nms, but maybe [name]Geraldine[/name] [name]Violet[/name] or [name]Geraldine[/name] [name]Mae[/name]?
[name]Vesper[/name] - This name is pretty cool! [name]Vesper[/name] [name]Raphaela[/name] would be neat. You could also do [name]Geraldine[/name] [name]Vesper[/name].
[name]Raphaela[/name] - This is really pretty!

I think [name]Ramona[/name] is a really great name too!

Boys

[name]Benedict[/name] - nms
[name]Sidney[/name] - Yes, I agree, it does sound better on a boy! Idk if it would work though, considering its a lot more popular for girls.
[name]Francis[/name] - I much prefer [name]Frank[/name] on its own.
[name]Demetri[/name] - I love this name too! So handsome.
[name]Ambrose[/name] - I just started hearing this name recently. It’s nms, but definitely sounds dashing.
[name]Chester[/name] - I know someone with a similar name. He pulls it off well.
[name]Oswald[/name] - nms
[name]Slater[/name] - This is a really cool name!
[name]Alphonse[/name] - Still figuring out what i think about this one…

For combos, how about [name]Slater[/name] [name]Francis[/name], [name]Chester[/name] [name]Sidney[/name], [name]Demetri[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name], and [name]Ambrose[/name] [name]Benedict[/name]?

[name]Roberta[/name] [name]Barbara[/name]- I have to agree with you about the "b"s and the "a"s. It does seem like a bit much for one name. And what happens if you marry someone and decide to take their last name and it has "b"s and "a"s, too. Then you’re really in trouble. I understand wanting to keep the names honoring family members together, but what about [name]Geraldine[/name] [name]Roberta[/name]? I think it has a nice ring to it, perhaps especially if the last name happens to be one syllable. [name]Geraldine[/name] is beautiful, by the way. I really think it is an adorable name for a little girl, but translates to sophistication for an adult.

[name]Melinda[/name] [name]Edith[/name]- You think it works well, so I guess I should leave this one alone. But I really think [name]Barbara[/name] [name]Edith[/name] sounds better. To my ears, anyway. And then maybe [name]Melinda[/name] [name]Vesper[/name] (I’m not a fan of [name]Vesper[/name], but it could work as a middle name as long as the first name is more traditional to ground it a little).

[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Jean[/name]- This one is my favorite and I think it is perfect the way it is! I really like how you have worked out all of the nn’s

[name]Raphaela[/name]- I think this one would work better as a mn. [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Raphaela[/name] is pretty good. I have always liked [name]Beatrice[/name].

Out of the other names you like, I really like [name]Martha[/name] [name]Nancy[/name]. I think it is a cute, classic name and works really well together.

Your boy names are tricky…

I am not a fan of:
[name]Benedict[/name]
[name]Francis[/name]
[name]Chester[/name]
[name]Slater[/name]
[name]Alphonse[/name]

[name]Sidney[/name] is nice, but I don’t really like place names.

[name]Oswald[/name] is my cat’s name.

[name]Demetri[/name] and [name]Ambrose[/name] are really good, solid names. I think both would make cute kids. Maybe even [name]Demetri[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name]?

Possible combos:
[name]Alphonse[/name] [name]Oswald[/name]
[name]Francis[/name] [name]Chester[/name]
[name]Benedict[/name] [name]Slater[/name]

[name]Roberta[/name] [name]Barbara[/name] - I dislike [name]Roberta[/name], I don’t think it’s appealing at all. I rarely say this, but I think there’s a tease factor. I do think [name]Barbara[/name] has a kind of out-of-date charm to it if you can manage to avoid the nickname [name]Barbie[/name]. However, I dislike the names together. You’re definitely right about too many ‘b’ sounds and both names ending in e.

[name]Melinda[/name] [name]Edith[/name] - [name]Melinda[/name] is just so out of date… but you say that’s your thing! It’s definitely not ugly, and has a sort of mellifluous sound to it. I personally prefer [name]Edith[/name] [name]Melinda[/name], but [name]Melinda[/name] [name]Edith[/name] sounds fine as well, just not my personal style.

[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Jean[/name] - Very cute! I love the nickname [name]Betty[/name], so underused nowadays, and [name]Betty[/name]-[name]Jean[/name] is so old-fashioned in a good way. I think this is a really good choice.

[name]Geraldine[/name]- Definite tease factor here, but not as much as [name]Roberta[/name]. I think [name]Geraldine[/name] [name]Lucille[/name] sounds nice together.

[name]Vesper[/name]- Cool, sleek. Would be tricky to pull off if the girl wasn’t cool, but there’s something very attractive about it. Could definitely go in the middle. Downside- sounds kind of close to [name]Vespa[/name]…

[name]Raphaela[/name]- I like it. I think it’s appealing and pretty, unique but not unheard of. If you prefer it in the middle, [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Raphaela[/name] sounds good.

I don’t know why you will never use these other names, I like all five of them.

[name]Benedict[/name] - Not my favorite, but not much teasing potential, in my opinion. Has the built in nickname ‘[name]Ben[/name]’ if your son is uncomfortable with the more outlandish name. Certainly has appealing qualities, sounds very masculine.

[name]Sidney[/name] - I agree, it sounds better on a boy, but there are so many little girl [name]Sidney[/name]/Sydneys now that I think it’s getting unusable.

[name]Francis[/name] - [name]One[/name] of my favorites. An underused classic. I like [name]Frances[/name], too, but I prefer it on a boy. Lots of literary/historical references.

[name]Demetri[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name. I prefer this spelling too. It seems exotic to me, for some reason, but it is familiar, easy to pronounce, and also distinct. Awesome choice.

[name]Ambrose[/name] - Use as a middle, in my opinion. Too clunky, teasing potential, etc.

[name]Chester[/name] - I don’t dislike it. It’s obviously out of style, but I think in a charming way. I can imagine a little [name]Chester[/name] running around, but I can also imagine a man named [name]Chester[/name].

[name]Oswald[/name] - So clunky. Not my style.

[name]Slater[/name] - Reminds me of Saved by the [name]Bell[/name], not as sophisticated as your other choices, in my opinion.

[name]Alphonse[/name] - I don’t like it at all as a first, could have some potential as a middle.

Combos- [name]Demetri[/name] [name]Francis[/name], [name]Demetri[/name] [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Demetri[/name] [name]Alphonse[/name], [name]Francis[/name] [name]Benedict[/name], [name]Benedict[/name] [name]Francis[/name], [name]Chester[/name] [name]Benedict[/name].

[name]Roberta[/name] [name]Barbara[/name] - The names are nms but I like the double “A” ending
[name]Melinda[/name] [name]Edith[/name] - again nms but the name has a good flow and is nice
[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Jean[/name] - Like these names, would like [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jeanette[/name] even more
[name]Geraldine[/name] - This was my Aunts name, I’m a fan of it as well  MNs: [name]Marie[/name], [name]Louise[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Cecile[/name]
[name]Vesper[/name] - family name for me, nms but I love it for that reason!
[name]Raphaela[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name, family gives you a great reason to use it so please do! [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Raphaela[/name] is gorgeous

Other names I like (but probably will never use)
[name]Nancy[/name] - nms not ready to make a comeback imo but with the right combo it might work
[name]Martha[/name] - close to my heart but nms
[name]Ramona[/name] - nms don’t care for it
[name]Beatrice[/name] - Looooove
[name]Lucille[/name] - nms too much association with I [name]Love[/name] [name]Lucy[/name] for me

Boys

[name]Benedict[/name] - My great uncle’s name! Really loving this lately and think it’s usable but maybe more as a mn due to the [name]Benedict[/name] [name]Arnold[/name] association if you’re in the US though that might not even matter anymore
[name]Sidney[/name] - nms, prefer on a girl
[name]Francis[/name] - love this!
[name]Demetri[/name] - nms
[name]Ambrose[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]! Would use this in a heartbeat and it’s on my list but my husband prefers [name]Ambroise[/name] :frowning:
[name]Chester[/name] - nms - [name]Chester[/name] the Cheetah and that [name]Chester[/name] the Molester association bother me
[name]Oswald[/name] - nms, reminds me of [name]Lee[/name] [name]Harvey[/name] [name]Oswald[/name] which isn’t good
[name]Slater[/name] - Dont care for occupation names, reminds me of [name]Christian[/name] [name]Slater[/name]
[name]Alphonse[/name] - nms but it’s usable and I can picture it being a nice name with the right mn

[name]Elisabeth[/name] is my favorite, and I love [name]Melinda[/name] too!

I prefer [name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Jean[/name] and [name]Melinda[/name] [name]Edith[/name] for girls. I also adore [name]Ramona[/name] & [name]Lucille[/name] off your “maybe” list!

For boys, I like [name]Francis[/name], [name]Demetri[/name], [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Chester[/name] (w nn [name]Chet[/name]), abd [name]Oswald[/name] (w nn Os or [name]Oz[/name]). [name]Benedict[/name] would be hard in the US if that’s where you are, and [name]Sidney[/name] is great for a boy but not sure he’d like to share his name with a ton of girls?

I used to always want to call my baby [name]Roberta[/name], but my husband isnt keen so I’ve let it go. [name]Bobbie[/name] as a nn. I don’t think it works with [name]Barbara[/name] though.
[name]Melinda[/name] [name]Edith[/name] flows well. I like [name]Edie[/name], but I’ve never been so keen on [name]Edith[/name]. Never heard [name]Melinda[/name] before but it’s alright.
I really like [name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Jean[/name], it goes together nicely. It does sound quite old though, but I think that’s just because one of my eldest relatives is a [name]Jean[/name].
Sorry, don’t like [name]Geraldine[/name]. [name]Mae[/name], [name]Louise[/name], [name]Rose[/name] for mms?
Heard [name]Vesper[/name] a few days ago and I’m pretty taken with it. [name]Don[/name]'t think I’ll ever use it though.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Raphaela[/name], an also the nn Raphi
You’re maybe names are all nice, I especially like [name]Martha[/name].
[name]Benedict[/name] is okay - Bens a favorite of mine, bit I don’t like the -dict ending very much.
[name]Sidney[/name] I quite like. The nn [name]Sid[/name] is really nice.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Francis[/name], although I prefer [name]Frances[/name] on a girl.
I like the name [name]Demetri[/name], but I kind of think you have to be Greek to pull it of…maybe I’m just being stupid though
[name]Ambrose[/name] is a no for me. It reminds me of [name]Ambrosia[/name] custard.
[name]Oswald[/name] is a little geeky sounding to me…[name]Ossie[/name]'s a good nn though.
[name]Chester[/name] could be amazing if the child could pull it off. Makes me think of a really cute, cheeky little boy with dimples. I’d also like it on a girl with the nn [name]Chessie[/name].
Really dislike [name]Slater[/name] - it’s trying to hard to be cool in my eyes. Sorry.
[name]Alphonse[/name] I can see on a little boy or maybe a teenager - I like it, but it’s pretty long and it makes me think of someone really tanned.
