My sister needs help naming her twins

My sister is almost due, she has only a few days left and is in the early stages of labor as it is. So she could deliver any time. My sister is having boy/girl twins and her and her husband have conflicting ideas on names. They cannot agree at all.

She likes
Girls
[name]Colbie[/name]
[name]Ella[/name]
[name]Rosie[/name] (she hates [name]Rose[/name])
[name]Emmy[/name]
[name]Bridgett[/name] (after our grandmother who raised us and passed away a couple of months ago)
[name]Belle[/name]

Boys
[name]Holden[/name]
[name]Caine[/name]
[name]Caden[/name]
[name]Jory[/name]
[name]Freddie[/name] (she hates [name]Fredrick[/name])
Macklin
[name]Jesse[/name]

His list
Girls
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Bernadette[/name]
[name]Bernadine[/name]

Boys
[name]Richard[/name]
[name]Eugene[/name]
[name]Bartholomew[/name]

He is not open to any other names, my sister has tried to suggest but he said his are the only suitable names. Please help. They have decided on [name]James[/name] and [name]Marie[/name] as middle names because they are family names. But they do not want to use them as first names. He wants to use two of his and she is open to other names but not the ones he already has.

It seems he likes traditional and formal while she likes more modern and nicknamey. I think a long name with a quirky nickname would be best.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Elizabeth[/name] nn [name]Ella[/name], it’s got the formal for him and the short and spunky for her which was already on her list.

Other girl ideas:
[name]Emmeline[/name] nn [name]Emmy[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name] nn [name]Rosie[/name]
[name]Annabel[/name] nn [name]Belle[/name]
[name]Katherine[/name] nn [name]Katie[/name] or [name]Kitty[/name]
[name]Alexandra[/name] nn [name]Alex[/name] or [name]Lexie[/name]

For boys, it seems she’s more into surname names, which makes it a bit more difficult. I’m thinking traditional names that are also used as surnames could be a compromise.

[name]Harvey[/name]
[name]Robert[/name]
[name]William[/name]
[name]Francis[/name] nn [name]Frankie[/name] - close to [name]Freddie[/name]

Maybe [name]Alfred[/name] nn [name]Freddie[/name] could work.

If he’s being that hard-nosed about it they might not have any choice but to compromise and split the naming.
Maybe he can name the girl and she the boy or vice versa.

I’m sorry, but I would find it completely unacceptable for my husband to say, “These are the only names that are acceptable. I am naming both children and I do not care for your opinion or if you hate my choice.” Sounds like a big fat jerk.

I’d say [name]Bridgett[/name] [name]Marie[/name] and [name]Richard[/name] [name]James[/name]

I’m with @essjay on this one. It sounds like they are both being quite unrealistic about what has to be a compromise. Her girls’ names are nicknamey bordering on cutesy… some of them stand well on their own, but I think others may leave the child with few options as an adult if she wants something more… well, adult. That said, he’s chosen some real clunkers. I think they need to go back to the drawing board and choose some formal names that will appease his (understandable) need for a “real” name, while giving her plenty of options for a spunky everyday nn (and let’s be real, most people will probably call the child by this if it’s appealing and it’s what mom is using).

I suggest [name]Elizabeth[/name] (nn [name]Ella[/name]) & [name]Richard[/name] (nn [name]Hardy[/name] or [name]Rory[/name])

I like [name]Belle[/name] & [name]Bartholomew[/name].

Since he likes formal names and her style is more modern, maybe they could compromise by using a formal name on the birth certificate and agreeing to call the children by cute NN’s that would fit your sister’s style. I like [name]Richard[/name] [name]James[/name] for the boy NN [name]Ricky[/name].
For the girl I like [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Marie[/name] NN [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Bridgette[/name] [name]Marie[/name] NN [name]Bridge[/name] or Bridgey, [name]Juliette[/name] [name]Marie[/name] NN [name]Jules[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Marie[/name] NN [name]Lottie[/name] or [name]Charlie[/name].

My favorite is [name]Richard[/name] [name]James[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Marie[/name]. I like [name]Ricky[/name] and [name]Lottie[/name] are just adorable for twins!

What about [name]Eleanor[/name] nn [name]Ella[/name]? Or they could call her [name]Elle[/name] if they liked that. Its very similar to [name]Belle[/name]!

Or there’s [name]Rosamund[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Rosalie[/name], [name]Roselle[/name], or [name]Rosalind[/name] with the nn [name]Rosie[/name]? x

I think they should compromise and use [name]Bridgett[/name] (because I’m sure it means a lot to her.) And [name]Richard[/name].

Seems to me they have to compromise.
As suggested a classic name with a cute nickname looks like it is really the only way to go.
[name]Bridgette[/name]-Ette, [name]Etta[/name], [name]Bri[/name], [name]Bridge[/name], [name]GiGi[/name]
[name]Annabelle[/name], [name]Mirabelle[/name], [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Amabel[/name]-[name]Belle[/name]/[name]Elle[/name]/[name]Ellie[/name] or [name]Bella[/name]/[name]Ella[/name] if you use bella at the end of the original name instead of belle
[name]Margaret[/name]-[name]Greta[/name], [name]Maisie[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], [name]Mara[/name], Ette, [name]Etta[/name], [name]Ari[/name], [name]Margo[/name], [name]Rita[/name], [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Peg[/name], [name]Peggy[/name], [name]Madge[/name], [name]Mary[/name],
[name]Bernadette[/name]-[name]Berry[/name], [name]Bea[/name], Ette, [name]Etta[/name], [name]Bette[/name], [name]Betty[/name], [name]Bernie[/name], [name]Nadie[/name], [name]Bebe[/name],
[name]Francis[/name]-[name]Frankie[/name] (close to [name]Freddie[/name])
[name]Jorah[/name]-[name]Jory[/name]
[name]Abraham[/name]-[name]Bram[/name] or [name]Abe[/name]
[name]Jedediah[/name]-[name]Jed[/name]

At least they have some nice ones to choose from. I like:

[name]Bridgette[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]

[name]Richard[/name]
[name]Caine[/name]
[name]Holden[/name]

[name]Bridgett[/name] and [name]Richard[/name] are great imo. I’d go for that.

You have a cousin pregnant with a little girl, who wants the name [name]Colbie[/name] while her boyfriend wants [name]Bernadette[/name]… and a sister having g/b twins who wants the name [name]Colbie[/name], while her husband wants [name]Bernadette[/name]? Quelle coincidence!

Yes I do, but my sister and my cousin have similar name tastes. My cousin went with the name [name]Ariel[/name] after. That’s what they agreed on, but my sister and her husband are having a hard time. He hates the name [name]Bridget[/name] but it would mean the world to my sister to use it.

I thought that sounded familiar  And here I was, thinking he must be the only man in the world to like the name [name]Bernadette[/name]!

At this point, I’d say they should just each take naming rights to one child. Thank god it’s not one baby, or they might have to go [name]Solomon[/name] style on it.

My brother in law does not agree with that.
