I’m reviewing/redacting my usable name list and would love to know what your guys’ opinions are! What vibes do they give you, first associations and so on. They’re names I envision picking from for an actual human child if I ever have one. All thoughts are welcome. Thank you (I’ve also posted about my girl name list)
These are all great! They’re all solid choices that will age pretty well. my favorites are [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u], [name_u]Julian[/name_u], and [name_u]River[/name_u]!
overall vibes of the whole list to me:
wow- I actually love all of these and more than half of them are on my shortlist for future babies. Two of them (August and Julian) are on my final list for my boy due in [name_u]January[/name_u]. So I think you have great taste!! In fact, seeing [name_m]Elio[/name_m] listed with all these other names made me pause and think about it, and I realized this is actually a fantastic name as well. It feels like the fun version of [name_u]Eli[/name_u] or [name_u]Leo[/name_u], happy and bright.
Those are my top 3 from your list but like I said, all of them are lovely. [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u], [name_m]Odin[/name_m], [name_u]Idris[/name_u] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] feel classy and handsome. [name_u]Asa[/name_u], [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m] sound like curious, cheeky, endearing little boys but with names that age well into adulthood. [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and [name_u]River[/name_u] are perfectly light, wearable and gentle. I don’t think you could wrong with anything here for a future baby!
Asa – love the name. It’s in my family tree, simple to spell, easy to pronounce. The only downside is the former governor of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson. There’s also its cousin, Asaph.
August – I’ve always loved August but it’s a very popular name, having replaced the prior trendy Austin. Augustine is a great name.
Benjamin – you can’t go wrong with Benjamin, with cute nns Benjie and Benny and Benno.
Elio – I think of the Chalamet movie. Still popular in its Elijah and Elias forms here in the South. Eli is nice, but I don’t pronounce it the American way.
Griffin – great name, Griff is a cool nn.
Idris – strong Welsh name but too associated with Idris Elba.
Julian – This is a good name. Classic, old, a saint’s name.
Odin – Being Norwegian, I would never use the name Odin.
Otis – not a favorite, although it’s in the clunky vintage chic set like Humphrey and Oswald.
Quinn – I’ve heard this on girls more than boys. I like Quincy (although I’m from Massachusetts so we say Quinzy) for a full name and you can still get Quinn.
River – Here in the South River is a girl’s name. It makes me think of River Phoenix still, but then I’m old, lol.
Silas – Lots of kids named Silas here. I’d go with Silvio or even the clunky chic Sylvester. Silvano is a great version too.
Your whole list is very friendly, open and familiar! Sort of “boy next door” vibes.
They’re all great, but I get the strongest imagery from:
[name_u]August[/name_u] is one of my favorites! I love the nicknames “Auggie” and “Gus” he feels very gentle and sweet, playing baseball with neighborhood friends in the backyard. [name_m]Elio[/name_m] is so fun and bright! I picture a boy building a sandcastle on the seashore [name_m]Odin[/name_m] is so sweet and underrated! I’m picturing a brave, proud and daring child with a cuddly side and a sweet spot for animals [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] stands out from the rest of your list to me. I’ve also been seeing it more on girls recently, which certainly isn’t a problem but perhaps something to consider. Otherwise I see [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] as a popular kid, who loves skateboarding and biking around to see his friends. [name_m]Silas[/name_m] is very sweet! I imagine a shy boy, a bookworm with a quiet voice and strong imagination
[name_u]Asa[/name_u] - gentle but sparky, bright and distinctive
[name_u]August[/name_u] - warm, earthy and lovely
[name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] - solid and classic. fun nicknames too
[name_m]Elio[/name_m] - bright, sunny and lively
[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] - rugged, cool and mystical
[name_u]Idris[/name_u] - powerful, distinctive and intriguing
[name_u]Julian[/name_u] - classic, solid and smart
[name_m]Odin[/name_m] - a bit heavy for me but I like the O sound
[name_m]Otis[/name_m] - charming, cheerful and fun but equally grounded and vintage.
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u] - sweet and bright
[name_u]River[/name_u] - naturey, gentle but cool
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] - mystical, sleek and sharp but woodsy
Great list!
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]. I also like [name_u]Julian[/name_u] and [name_u]Griffin[/name_u]. [name_u]River[/name_u] I love but wouldn’t be brave enough to use.
I absolutely love , [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] , [name_u]Julian[/name_u] , [name_m]Otis[/name_m] , [name_m]Elio[/name_m] , [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] , [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] . They feel modern with a touch of vintage flair !!
i love August (my middle name!) and Elio! these names all feel sunny, fun, and smart. my only associations are Benjamin Franklin and Elio from CMBYN (maybe unfavorable, but not too bad, especially considering that Disney movie coming out eventually)
