I’m on the hunt for names that relate to Celtic mythology. It doesn’t have to be a name of a goddess or deity, per say- I like names like [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] that have a subtle tie-in to myths and beliefs. [name_f]My[/name_f] one restriction is that I’m looking for a name that is easy to say and spell in the US. Thanks!!
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]/[name_f]Innogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
[name_f]Greer[/name_f]
Aylee (actually [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f], but that is too difficult to figure out)
[name_f]Bria[/name_f]
[name_f]Fianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Davina[/name_f]
[name_m]Tamerlaine[/name_m]
[name_f]Morwenna[/name_f]
Morwen/[name_f]Morwyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Morven[/name_f]
[name_u]Seren[/name_u]
[name_f]Celyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] (or any variation of it)
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
Welsh:
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]
[name_f]Branwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Anwen[/name_f] - not a name from mythology but it looks similar to Annwn, the name of the Otherworld in Welsh Mythology (not pronounced the same, but they look similar so I thought this might be a nice subtle link)
[name_f]Elen[/name_f] (Welsh form of [name_f]Helen[/name_f] - found in Welsh mythology)
[name_f]Olwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f]
[name_f]Iseult[/name_f]
Irish:
[name_f]Niamh[/name_f] (it’s got the crazy Irish spelling but it’s a pretty well known name)
Ness
[name_f]Una[/name_f]
I struggled with Irish ones because I couldn’t find many easy to pronounce ones (not from mythology anyway) and didn’t want to suggest really anglicised spellings because I strongly dislike them.
well I’m Welsh, but the only ones I can think of that are both linked to mythology and easy to spell/say are [name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f] and [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]. Most Welsh names (especially mythical ones) have very tricky spelling/pronunciation for people outside of [name_m]Wales[/name_m].
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]!!! Not only was she [name_f]Queen[/name_f] of the Fairies in Irish Mythology, the name also was that of the queen of Connacht in the very famous Irish epic “The Cattle Raid of Cooley.”
[name_f]Brigid[/name_f]
[name_f]Deirdre[/name_f]
[name_f]Emer[/name_f]
[name_f]Finola[/name_f] (anglicized spelling of [name_f]Fionnuala[/name_f])
[name_f]Grania[/name_f] (ditto for [name_f]Grainne[/name_f])
[name_u]Shannon[/name_u] (ditto for Sionan)
[name_f]Branwen[/name_f]
I adore:
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]
[name_f]Ceridwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Branwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] (but really my favourite spelling is [name_f]Brigida[/name_f])
[name_f]Deirdre[/name_f]
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] - But my husband hates it.
[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]
[name_f]Morrigan[/name_f] - [name_f]My[/name_f] husband’s current fave.
