So this is a seed of an idea I’m working on, and I want to play with some names for some potential characters. The basis is a wedding planner and the weddings she’s planning and the family drama involved will reflect her own life and how she’s coped with her past trauma. The listed characters and descriptions are a mock-up of what I’ve brainstormed this far and may change. Last name suggestions welsome as well.
The setting is modern day Northern California, the style is a drama/character study
Character #1- main character, wedding planner, female, in her late 20s. Brown hair, long, curly, and frizzy, with brown eyes and pale skin. Plus-sized and average height. Leads a very average life that has been difficult to achieve as she’s had to cope with some deep trauma. She has an external wall that projects her as being loud, bossy, and sometimes cold, but she is actually very sensitive, loyal, and caring. Has a strong sense of very dry and sarcastic humor, as well as being very creative and tenacious. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder causes some difficulties for her in her anxieties and depression, sense of self-worth, as well as other common PTSD symptoms.
Character #2- husband of main character, works in the engineering or mathematical field. Kind hearted, patient, and very intelligent. Is strong support system for main character, loving, with a naughty sense of humor and intense loyalty. Tall and chubby with dark hair and eyes, racially ambiguous, with handsome features and strong arms. Rational and fair, and always treats main character with utmost respect and love.
Character #3- Father of main character, tall and slender, salt-and-pepper-haired, similar appearance to [name_m]Robert[/name_m] DeNiro. War veteran with PTSD that can sometimes lead to a short temper. Was a doting and loving father most of the time, with occasional bouts of rages, but not physically violent. Always wanted to be a good father and has an overall close relationship with main character. Always wanted to be equal as a head of famiy, but his version of equality was often neutrality, and is frightened of is wife to a certain extent.
Character #4- Mother of main character, late 50s, Midwestern woman with a slender frame and pointed features. Ice blue eyes and dark hair, looks far younger than her age. Small-town socialite obsessed with maintaining appearance of a “good [name_m]Christian[/name_m] woman,” perfectionist, and self-obsessed, the true head of the household. Verbally, emotionally, and occasionally physically abusive towards her children growing up, obvious favoritism towards brother of main character, the kind of mother that nothing can ever be good enough for.
Character #5- Brother of main character, 30s. The shorter side of tall, dark hair, with many of his mothers features. Works in sales at a managerial level, can ooze charm and be very manipulative. Remains fairly morally ambiguous most of the story, maintains the image that he wants to maintain. As a child (somewhere between 4 to 6 years older than main character), was aware of favoritism of mother towards him and his father’s lack of enforcing authority over mother, and was able to manipulate them easily. Verbally, physically, and sexually abusive towards main character.
Names considered: Aiden, might still go with it depending on Character #1’s name
Character #6- Wife of Character #5, spunky and short, auburn haired woman in her 30s, works as an art teacher, was in an abusive relationship for 3 years where she conceived her daughter. Was a single mother until she met Character #5 at a concert, married a year later. Is very sweet and perky but can be quiet and bottles things up.
Character #7- Daughter of Character #6, lively and intelligent 8 year old, tan from being outdoors a lot, redheaded with lots of freckles. Shares mother’s spunk and humor.
Character #8- Mistress of Character #3, widow in her 60s, grey hair dyed brown, average height and build, independent jewelry artist. Having an affair with father of main character, remains mostly unseen.
