My husband and I have a long list of names that we like, but none of the names “jumps out” like our first two baby boys’ names did.
We choose middle names that are family names so we are using [name]Robert[/name] this time around. We prefer the more unique names, but some of them we like are getting popular.
Our first two boys are [name]Ronan[/name] [name]Michael[/name] and [name]Emmett[/name] [name]James[/name]. Last name starts with K and ends with Y.
Any of these that you love or have some awesome suggestions for a middle name [name]Robert[/name]? Thanks!
[name]Hudson[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Phillip[/name]/[name]Philip[/name]
[name]Atticus[/name]
[name]Morgan[/name] (probably my first choice but it is so trendy for girls now. Any opinions for a boy?)
[name]Cedric[/name]
[name]Tiernan[/name]
[name]Cullen[/name]
[name]Niall[/name]/[name]Neil[/name]/[name]Neal[/name]
[name]Jedidiah[/name]
[name]Josiah[/name]
[name]Tobiah[/name]
[name]Eli[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Hi[/name], I’m having the problem of naming a little boy too. Its the same thing where I just want a name to “jump out” like it did with our daughter.
Here are my thoughts on some of your names:
[name]Hudson[/name] [name]Robert[/name] - I think this works.
[name]Owen[/name] [name]Robert[/name] - also a good choice.
[name]Griffin[/name] - I really like this with your other boys names
[name]Phillip[/name]/[name]Philip[/name] - doesn’t seem as unique as some of your other choices.
[name]Atticus[/name] - I’m not a fan of this name, but there isn’t really anything wrong with it.
[name]Morgan[/name] - I actually really like this for a boy too, but I don’t know how others [name]IRL[/name] would see it, it is used quite a lot for girls, so I’m not sure. [name]Morgan[/name] [name]Robert[/name] makes it sound more manly, and I would love to see that on a little boy!
[name]Cedric[/name] - My concern with this name is the hard K ending with your last name that starts with a K, maybe that doesn’t bother you, but my last name also starts with a K and I find the K sounds run together.
[name]Tiernan[/name] [name]Robert[/name] - this is a cool name, and again I think it sounds good with your other sons.
[name]Cullen[/name] - the hard C on the front would bother me with K last name.
[name]Josiah[/name] [name]Robert[/name] - also a good choice!
[name]Eli[/name] [name]Robert[/name] - I like this one too.
I think [name]Morgan[/name] [name]Robert[/name] would be perfect with your sibset. Enough contrast with [name]Emmett[/name] and [name]Ronan[/name], while absolutely being in the same family. Yes, it’s gotten popular for girls, but I think it’s still very much a traditional boy’s name. Beautiful meaning too- “bright sea dweller” or something like that. My next choice would be [name]Owen[/name], which I think is so sturdy and handsome, though slightly more popular.
I think [name]Griffin[/name] fits in great with [name]Ronan[/name] and [name]Emmett[/name]. I also think [name]Morgan[/name] and [name]Atticus[/name] work well. I think [name]Owen[/name] sounds too close to [name]Ronan[/name].
other ideas-
[name]Eamon[/name]
[name]Teague[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
I love [name]Griffin[/name] and think it would work great with your other boys. I would be using this name if not for my cousin having already used it. I also like [name]Philip[/name]. [name]Owen[/name] and [name]Ronan[/name] sound a little similar as well as [name]Elliot[/name] and [name]Emmett[/name] otherwise I would set those apart from the rest of your list as well.
Maybe…
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Hudson[/name]
[name]Calvin[/name]
I always feel odd giving suggestions because I can never really pinpoint why the stick out to me. Oh well!
Haha! [name]Hudson[/name] was on your list! Apparently I completely overlooked the first one! Well I guess I did a pretty good job with that suggestion at least! Sorry for being a dingbat. It’s a constant struggle of mine!
I love [name]Morgan[/name] [name]Robert[/name]. I think that it works well with [name]Ronan[/name] and [name]Emmett[/name], and [name]Robert[/name] toughens it up a bit. While it is much more popular with girls, I think it has retained enough of its masculine roots that it still feels boyish (where a name like [name]Ashley[/name] or [name]Clair[/name] were once boys names but feel intensely feminine now). I also love [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Cullen[/name], [name]Neil[/name], and maybe [name]Cedric[/name] (if pronounced with a long “ee”). I think that the Biblical choices like [name]Josiah[/name], [name]Tobiah[/name], [name]Jedidiah[/name] and [name]Eli[/name] look too heavy and traditional next to your sons’ names. [name]Elliot[/name], [name]Owen[/name], and maybe [name]Cedric[/name] (if the “e” is soft as in “[name]Edward[/name]”) sound too close to Ronon or [name]Emmett[/name] [name]IMO[/name].
I love [name]Morgan[/name] for a boy. Maybe because I’m so used to seeing it on a boy in [name]General[/name] Hospital. I think it’s strong and folds easily into your other names.
Something that would bother me (maybe not you) is if 2 of my sons had same ending names while the other did not. The fact that many of your names end with the same sound as [name]Ronan[/name], I don’t think I would personally use them.
Names that are too similar to [name]Ronan[/name] for me:
[name]Hudson[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Morgan[/name]
[name]Tiernan[/name]
[name]Cullen[/name]
If this does not bother you at all, I love the idea of [name]Morgan[/name] [name]Robert[/name]. It is my favorite from your list if other siblings aren’t taken into account. I think it goes well with [name]Emmett[/name] and [name]Ronan[/name] aside from the aforementioned issue.
I agree with the pp who said the hard “c” at the end of [name]Cedric[/name] might run into your last name a bit. I do not, however, have a problem with the hard “c” at the beginning of [name]Cullen[/name]. I simply feel the name is irretrievably Twilight (pair it with brother [name]Emmett[/name] and you have Twilight overload!)
My all around favorites:
[name]Tobiah[/name] [name]Robert[/name] – I love the repeating “b” sound in this name. I also think [name]Tobiah[/name] goes beautifully with [name]Emmett[/name] and [name]Ronan[/name]. It’s wonderfully refreshing, too, because you normally see [name]Tobias[/name].
[name]Niall[/name] [name]Robert[/name] – This is my second favorite. I love this spelling, but I also think [name]Neil[/name] is nice. [name]Niall[/name] [name]Robert[/name] sounds a little stinted on its own, but depending on how many syllables your last name is, I think it could work.
I was going to talk about how much I loved [name]Eli[/name] [name]Robert[/name], but as I was typing it, I realized it reminded me a lot of [name]Robert[/name] E. [name]Lee[/name]… which is fine, I guess, but sort of tripped me up.
[name]Morgan[/name] [name]Robert[/name] is great. I taught a boy named [name]Morgan[/name] and there was not gender confusion at all. [name]Love[/name] [name]Ronan[/name], [name]Emmett[/name] and [name]Morgan[/name].
I really like [name]Morgan[/name] for a boy! Sounds great with [name]Ronan[/name] and [name]Emmett[/name] in my opinion! I would like to put [name]Morgan[/name] on my boys list but Hubby sees it as girls and I know a girl [name]Morgan[/name] so it would be kind of odd. I like it for you though!
