We are expecting baby #5 and our 12 week sonogram indicated a boy. Our children’s names are
[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m],
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u],
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and
[name_u]Jude[/name_u] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m].
Despite appearances, we did not purposefully name our three boys with “J” names…those just happened to be the names we liked. [name_f]Do[/name_f] we have to choose a “J” name for this baby as well? I hate to choose a name just because it starts with a certain letter. I want to choose a name because it has meaning and we like it.
Our current favorite is [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] ([name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] because he was the youngest of [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]’s sons in the Bible and [name_m]Allen[/name_m] because it is a family name). Is it wrong to give this baby a name that is so different from his brothers’ names? I don’t want him to feel left out. Thanks for the advice!!
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] is not at all different from [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], and [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. They’re all well-known Biblical names. As is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], actually. I don’t think you need to name this baby a J name just because the others have one, either. Your daughter doesn’t and that’s not an issue right? So why would it be for this child? If you love [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], go for it. I think it goes well with your other children’s names.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] doesn’t have a J name either. Gender really shouldn’t affect whether it’s the odd one out. In fact, I would encourage you to go with a non J name, because it makes [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] stand out that much less.
I agree with [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] being a nice way to tie in [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! Both are longer than the other boys names, but I think [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] has the same feeling as your other sons’ names.
Small detail but I like that the J and B sounds in [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] pick up the sounds in your other kids names
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] fits perfectly. I wouldn’t use a name I don’t love just to fit an accidental pattern.
I think [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] is wonderful with this sibset. If you want to emphasize the “j”, you could use [name_m]Benji[/name_m] as a pet name.
