Name after baby's dad or baby's grandmothers?

First I will give the generalized question then give the specific names since I’ve got a good idea about what the favorite name will be :joy:

Which do you prefer for a middle name?
  • One that links to your father?
  • One that links to your grandmothers?
  • No preference

Ok, now on to the names. First name is Isabelle. The middles in consideration are Ivy and Susalie. Her dad is a 4th (IV = Ivy :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ) Susalie comes directly from her grandmothers first names and happens to be a family name too.

Favorite name?
  • Isabelle Ivy
  • Isabelle Susalie

[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] is gorgeous! Susalie is also beautiful, it just doesn’t flow as well (to me) with [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].

I voted “father” because if I ever have a son his middle name will be [name_u]John[/name_u] after my late father, and I’m not personally close with any of my grandmothers. You have a really cool idea though!!

Hmm I just realized that I sort of switched perspective here since this would be my baby’s father or my baby’s grandmothers. Not my father or grandmothers. Whoops well I suppose it makes sense if people read the second bit :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I don’t dislike Susalie, I think it’s a cool family name for the middle spot- I just don’t love it paired with Isabelle. Even though Isabelle and Ivy start with the same letter the two names sound quite different; Isabelle and Susalie share a lot of the same sounds on top of the same syllable count, it’s just a little repetitive to my ear by comparison (but not bad at all! )

I’d prefer to have an honour name for a slightly more removed person than my father only because relationships with parents can be very difficult at times while relationships with grandparents tend to be a bit more simple.

Good point!

I would go with both. [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] Susalie would be gorgeous.

I have a cousin who lost their mom before having her baby. She gave her daughter two middles to honour mom and use the other middle she wanted to use (I don’t know the significance of it, but I think it is for her husband’s family). I love her name and it works well together. Btw both middle names are used often but she isn’t middle names regularly… her parents love all three of her names.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]! She was my favorite for years and years, and I’ve only recently swapped her for [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] instead. I like the novelty of [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] Susalie… Susalie is very fun, and feels really chic next to [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]!

I love [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] to honor the father is BRILLIANT lol, but I just don’t love the alliteration of [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], and I like that Susalie seems more exciting.

Good luck!
