Name Baby After A Character From Book, T.V., Movie

Question? Would or have you named you child or children after characters from lets say a book, movie, T.V. show, etc… Cause I have really thought about this, because on of my names that I have picked out is actually from the book and movie Gone with the Wind, except of being [name_f]Katie[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] it would be [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. So would you or wouldn’t you?

I would if I loved the name enough. Like one of my names that I love is: [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] Winchester. Winchester being from Supernatural. I also love the name [name_u]Dean[/name_u] and Catiel from Supernatrual

Yes- A lot of my names are literary based, e.g: [name_m]Ishmael[/name_m] from [name_m]Moby[/name_m] [name_m]Dick[/name_m], [name_m]Roland[/name_m] from the Dark [name_m]Tower[/name_m] Series, [name_u]Dagny[/name_u] from [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] Shrugged, [name_f]Nan[/name_f] from [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_m]Pan[/name_m], [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] (as a mn), from ACD’s books (and the TV Show [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m], but I loved the books first), [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] from the [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] of [name_m]Oz[/name_m], [name_u]Dune[/name_u] from the [name_u]Dune[/name_u] Series by [name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_m]Herbert[/name_m], etc. I didn’t necessarily pick them for the character, but these were the first places that I heard the names, or really considered them as names.

A lot of the names on my list are also in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], but for the most part, I loved them before the books: J.K Rowling just has a pretty awesome naming style, if I say so myself: [name_f]Minerva[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], Ginerva, [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_m]Remus[/name_m], [name_m]Albus[/name_m] and [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] are all on my list, but with the exception of [name_m]Albus[/name_m], I loved them all before the books. I also have [name_m]Morris[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Morrie[/name_m]) on my list, which I fell in love with after reading Tuesdays with [name_m]Morrie[/name_m].

I would! [name_f]My[/name_f] entire [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] combo, [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], is deliberately made up of literary characters, and I’ll only ever use middles (in that combo) that are character names. Loads of my other favourite names and middles are from book/TV characters as well: [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Rowena[/name_f], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Remus[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], the list goes on. There are some names I want to use (as middles at least) because of characters, like [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. I tend to get very connected to and passionate about characters, and I love it when I come across a character with a great name!

I love [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], named after [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] in To Kill a Mockingbird.

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]! Although I would chose a more creative name than grace for the middle name.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite girls name is actually from a book I read as a preteen and really loved. It actually has a lot of great names in it. I remember after reading the book I went back through and made a list of all the amazing names from it. At least two of the names are on my favourite list still today.
If I really love a character I will end up falling for the name, even if it isn’t my style.
I love [name_u]Seeley[/name_u] because of the show Bones. I also used to love [name_u]Peyton[/name_u] when I was younger because of the One Tree [name_m]Hill[/name_m] character. [name_f]My[/name_f] love for [name_m]Peter[/name_m] comes from many different characters, one of which is from the show Fringe.
I think it’s easy to see a name paired with a personality we like when we read or see it on a character. When I thought of naming a future daughter [name_u]Peyton[/name_u], it was with hope that she would somehow embody the creativity and braveness of the character.

There is a few I’ve seriously considerate door just liked.

[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_m]Conan[/name_m]
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
[name_f]Morganna[/name_f]

[name_m]Thayer[/name_m]
[name_u]Gus[/name_u]
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f]
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]
[name_u]Noah[/name_u]
[name_m]Harry[/name_m]
[name_m]Sirius[/name_m]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]

Video Games:

[name_f]Ayla[/name_f]

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]

Cersei

Probably more that I cannot think of right off the top of my head.

[name_f]My[/name_f] two favorite names right now for girls ([name_f]Antonia[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]) are not really based intentionally off of books, though they do have literary connections. As an English lit major librarian-hopeful…book names are a thing.
I found [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] in a song called “Library Girl” by [name_f]Reina[/name_f] del Cid in which she mentions the book [name_f]My[/name_f] ”ntonia. I fell in love with the nickname [name_f]Annie[/name_f] ever since I saw the musical when I was little, but I couldn’t imagine naming my future daughter something as plain as [name_f]Anne[/name_f].

[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] is inspired by my favorite fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast. [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] representing the rose, and -lind meaning beautiful, just like [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. The nickname [name_f]Lindy[/name_f] is taken from Beastly, [name_u]Alex[/name_u] [name_u]Flinn[/name_u]'s retelling of the story.

I would. Books are my greatest source for new names and I am always happy to find some of my favorites used in novels.
I don’t really believe that naming a baby after a character means the baby will have the exact character’s fate, as I have been told. And I even know a girl who has the exact name from a not very well-known book.
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is great and not too GWTW, which is also a favorite book of mine. Nice choice!

One of my favorite boys names is [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], which is after [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] [name_m]Reynolds[/name_m] from the tv show Firefly. I also like [name_m]Fitzwilliam[/name_m], from Pride and Prejudice. Also [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], from House.

Sure, provided you don’t name your kid Darth Vader or [name_m]Hannibal[/name_m] or something totally weird like that, I don’t see anything all that wrong with it.

I like names from TV shows, movies & books, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I am naming my child after that character I just like the name!
I like the name [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], but not because of the Twilight character.
[name_u]Abilene[/name_u] is one of my favorite girl names and I first heard of it from the movie The Help.

I named my first daughter after the character [name_f]Maeby[/name_f] from Arrested Development. Pretty uncommon show, and definitely an uncommon name. That is why I chose it.

Some of my most favourite names are ones I have found in books, but I don’t always like the character they belong to. If I found a character with a name I loved and I also loved the character then I would so name my kid after them. I love [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosette[/name_f] from Chocolat and [name_f]Liesel[/name_f] and [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] from The Book Thief. I always give my pets character names, like [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and [name_m]Gatsby[/name_m] and [name_m]Severus[/name_m]. I don’t think there’s anything at all weird about naming your child after a character that you love.

[name_f]Clover[/name_f]- What [name_f]Katy[/name_f] Did Next (book)
[name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_m]George[/name_m]- [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]- Despicable me
[name_f]Temperance[/name_f]- Bones
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]/[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]- [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] (cartoon)
[name_m]Winston[/name_m]- [name_m]New[/name_m] Girl
[name_m]Albert[/name_m]- can’t recall the movie but [name_m]Albert[/name_m] dresses up as an one armed Spiderman for Halloween

There is probably a lot more that I can’t think of at this moment. I think a lot of these characters helped me love the name, before hand I never really thought of using.

We don’t have many names chosen after characters, but we have decided on [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] after [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] Pond from doctor who, and [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] as a middle name after my one of my favourite childhood books.

[name_f]Every[/name_f] time I read a book or watch t.v. or a movie and I hear a name that I like, I will say to myself maybe I will use it one day. Here is some more names I like from characters.

[name_f]Laura[/name_f]- [name_m]Little[/name_m] House Books and also the author
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]- [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] Bedila (loved this book when I was little)
[name_u]Wynn[/name_u]- Call of the Heart series by [name_f]Janette[/name_f] Oke (male character)
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]- Boxcar Children
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f]- [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings
[name_m]Timothy[/name_m] [name_m]Drake[/name_m]- Third [name_u]Robin[/name_u] in Batman comics
[name_u]Auden[/name_u]- Along for the Ride by [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] Dessen
[name_u]Darcy[/name_u]- Pride and Prejudiced

No. I would not name my child after anyone. I personally see it as insulting-like, I named you after this person and you have to have at least one of their traits. Besides, would the child appreciate that? Would it affect them in life? I think about stuff like that all the time. While I do like many names from media, I wouldn’t do name my child after someone.

Excuse me if that sounded harsh, but it’s my personal opinion.

I’d do it, sure. A lot of my favorites have a subtle reference to a fictional character. I’d rather meet a kid named after a fictional character than a kid who was given a name just because mom and dad thought it “sounded nice.”
