I voted for [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

I can see your reasoning behind Elivia but I wouldn’t do it. If [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] called [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is confusing to people, then I think “Elivia with an E” will be just as (if not more) confusing. As far as I can tell, Elivia sounds just like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is no more intuitive a nickname for [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] than for [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]. Plus, you’d be adding extra spelling confusion.

If you find [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] too nicknamey as a first name, how about choosing a new full first name which shortens intuitively to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]? Something like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]?

I know an [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] and she’s never had many problems with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]/[name_f]Alivia[/name_f] mixups. I think Elivia is beautiful.

I really like Elivia and it gives your daughter more options as she ages. If you just go with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], some people will assume that it is short for something, [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] . . . Elivia gets you oh-so-close to your favorite and it seems to be a great compromise. Good luck.

Everything katinka said.

I feel like I say that a lot? My preferred name list is nothing like yours, katinka, and yet almost every time I see a post of yours in a thread I feel “yup, she just said EXACTLY my thoughts”…

I also second everything katinka said. Elivia is confusing to me, tbh. I much prefer other [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] names, like [name_f]Elena[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].

I like the suggestion of [name_f]Ella[/name_f] as it is lovely, plus [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is more intuitive as a nickname. Or you could name her [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. My second choice is Elivia, but if she is going to be called [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], regardless, I would go with something like [name_f]Ella[/name_f] or [name_f]Elle[/name_f].

[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or leave it as is.

I would say try the Starbucks test with the name Elivia to see the reactions/what they come up with. Saying [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] with an E could just end up getting [name_f]Olivea[/name_f] (36 of those born in 2014 compared to 22 Aliveas and 10 Elivias). I went with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] because if that’s what you want to call her all the time, just skip the confusion and give her that name.

I mostly agree with katinka and tfzolghadr, especially about Elivia being confusing.

However, I don’t see [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] for [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] as that far of a stretch. Not necessarily intuitive for English speakers, who usually use the first syllables of a name as the nickname, but in other languages, they often use the middle/last parts of a name as the nickname. If someone introduced me to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], I wouldn’t question her name. If I found out it was a nickname, [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] wouldn’t surprise me nearly as much as Elivia would, I’d probably assume she was named for another [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and you gave her a nickname to differentiate between them.

I think [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] is just so sweet and elegant, it makes me want to beg you not to change it. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] is a great first name, and even though you don’t like it, [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] might decide she loves it when she’s older and wants to use it in her work life, or at school. If anything, I’d go with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] or [name_f]Elena[/name_f] or [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] in replacement of [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], and have “[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u].”

Looking at her original name, I like the idea of just changing [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] so her name would be [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u], but the other options are nice as well  I just like the flow of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]

I haven’t voted but I really feel for you being in this situation because I have been there too and it sucks!

We changed the spelling of our boys name from [name_m]Zechariah[/name_m] to Zakariya and I had big baby name regret at first about not calling him [name_m]Izaak[/name_m] and I just felt bad about it all in general.

My advice would be to go with your heart. I had gone on forums and seen that people preferred the former spelling of my boys name over the latter spelling and so I originally registered him as that even though it was against my gut instinct. I think that whatever way the poll goes you need to be happy with your baby’s name and that is very important!

[name_m]Don[/name_m]’t rush the decision, I don’t know if you are the UK, [name_u]America[/name_u] or elsewhere and so I don’t know if there is a deadline to when you need to change the name by but I would use all the time you need to make the correct decision.

If you love Elivia and will regret not naming her that then you should definitely go for it. Im not telling you to discount all opinions against it but I think its about making an informed decision. There are fors and againsts for each name so take them all into consideration.

If however you are rushing your decision or you’ve just come across Elivia and haven’t allowed yourself time to really reflect on the name and your feelings towards it then I would say wait and see how you feel in a week or a months time. Your daughter is here now and everyone is calling her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] anyway so you have nothing to rush for. You can try Elivia out and see how it feels, research some other options or maybe just give yourself space not to think about it for a few days.

You should be happy with your babys name tho and if you are still not happy after giving it some space then you should defiantly change it. Im so glad I did!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I like just [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], but also, have you considered [name_f]Eliana[/name_f]? I guess it might not go with [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]? [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] (sp?) [name_u]June[/name_u]?

Yes mia17, but [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] does have a meaning too & I always said I’d like to keep that for that reason. But I do know what you mean. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] was what I would have named her originally if I would’ve gone against my partners opinion. He didn’t like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] cause of the nicknames you get from it… :frowning:

Elivia looks made up to me, I would stick with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].

Yes, but [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] does have a meaning to me as well and I always said I would like to keep that for that very reason. But I know what you mean as [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] was what I would have named her originally if I would have gone against my partners opinion but he didn’t like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] cause of the nicknames you get from it like [name_f]Liv[/name_f] & [name_f]Livvy[/name_f] :frowning:

If anything, I’d go with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], however, I think keeping [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] as her first name on paper is still your best option. There are so many people who never use their full first names, who only go nicknames or middle names or even initials, who even sign with those names. The only time you really ever have to use your first name is when filling out forms but even if those are for school or a new job, you can always mention that she goes by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].
I just think the hassle (and money?) of changing her name at this age are not worth it if you’re calling her by a nickname that not only makes sense when looking at her full name but actually want to change her name to just that nickname.

I wouldn’t go with Elivia, it feels like one of those modern creations of people who want their children to be extra special and need to have that reflected in their name.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about Elivia [name_u]June[/name_u]?

Why can’t she be a [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and be nicknamed [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]? I don’t get it…
