Name change suggestions

Hello, I have wanted to change my name for a while, partially because my name is pretty embarrassing (my mom didn’t know she was pregnant with me until she gave birth, so she couldn’t think of a name and just went with a feminine version of her father’s and brother’s name) and the long history of narcissism and abuse in my family.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] to paint a picture in your mind, a bit about me:

  • 5ft 6"
  • pale cool toned skin
  • espresso brown/near black hair
  • dark greyish green eyes
  • underbite but That is getting corrected
  • computer science major
  • gamer
  • artist and musician
  • currently learning dance and swordfighting
  • night owl
  • socially awkward
  • i like poetry and am presenting mine at an honors conference

I am interested in changing my first middle and last name, so feel free to suggest name combinations.

Thank you so much for your help!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Namechanger, welcome to the forum!!

It sounds like an exciting time for you to find a name that better reflects you as an individual. Good for you for exploring the options!

Upon reading your description the first name that popped into my head is [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] [name_u]Grey[/name_u] [name_u]Carter[/name_u]. No idea why!

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you find you gravitate towards feminine names or gender neutral names?

You sound like an interesting, independent, resilient individual so my suggestions are along those lines… I added a last name when one came to mind, otherwise I just put first and middle.

[name_u]Avery[/name_u] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_u]Lennon[/name_u] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] Fallone
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Collins[/name_u] (nickname [name_f]Liz[/name_f])

[name_u]Haley[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u]
[name_u]Kerry[/name_u] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_m]Robinson[/name_m]

[name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] [name_u]Walker[/name_u]
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f] [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] Elderman
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f] Eddleman

Best of luck finding the right fit!!

I think it’s important to decide the last name first. Or at least the general sound of it. [name_m]Will[/name_m] it be Irish? Italian? Bulgarian? Nigerian? You get the idea.

Since you have dark hair:

[name_f]Lark[/name_f]
[name_u]Raven[/name_u]
[name_f]Stormie[/name_f]/[name_f]Stormy[/name_f]/Stormi
[name_u]Bay[/name_u]

Since the sword fighting interests you:

[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]

Since you are a poet:

[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Thisbe[/name_f]

Nightowl:

[name_f]Nyx[/name_f]
[name_u]Winter[/name_u]

I love [name_u]Winter[/name_u] for you. It’s a season of survival and I feel like that describes you with some of the poetic elements added.

Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!!!

[name_f]Pippa[/name_f] [name_u]Simone[/name_u] [name_m]Fielding[/name_m]
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] Michelson
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_u]Clancy[/name_u] [name_m]Peterson[/name_m]
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f] [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_u]Wynter[/name_u]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] [name_f]Raine[/name_f] [name_u]Selby[/name_u]
[name_u]Lindsay[/name_u] [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] [name_m]Craig[/name_m]
[name_f]Mathilde[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f] Peters
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_m]Fielding[/name_m]

[name_u]Winter[/name_u]/[name_m]Winters[/name_m] would be a good last name for You if you aren’t interested in it as a first. [name_u]Love[/name_u] what the pp said about it being a season of survival.

Let us know what sort of names you like and we will regale you with options, I have no doubt. [name_m]Long[/name_m], short, flowery, tailored, fem, uni, modern, classic…

Good luck and have fun on this journey. Wear a name for a day and see if it fits!

Thank you so much!

My taste tends to lean to feminine names because despite my interests, I am a pretty girly person (my wardrobe is almost 100% dresses.)

My family is Scottish/English mixed if it helps with last names, but winter seems like a winner in that department.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! I can’t help but feel like you’re selling yourself a bit short with some of the descriptors you used. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I don’t know you and never met you, do know that you deserve all the best in the world and that you are worth it! First of which might indeed be a name of course that you feel suits you better.

I would love to have [name_u]Winter[/name_u] as a surname too, so I am going to agree with that suggestion as a last name. Generally I feel like a nature themed surname would be great for someone who enjoys poetry so much. So something along the lines of:
[name_m]Wood[/name_m]
[name_m]Forest[/name_m]
[name_u]Green[/name_u]
[name_m]Thorne[/name_m]
etc.

The added advantage of a short surname is that they sound great in combination with most names, especially feminine sounding names, as those tend to be longer.

My initial thoughts for first names were: [name_f]Alicia[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Aveline[/name_f], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. To me these names evoke the right image in that they sound like independent, resilient yet soft and elegant women to me. I particularly like [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] for you because I feel like that name also evokes some of your tech-y and science-y interests.

I would also suggest:
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] (which of course means ‘moon’ so there’s your night owl for you, in the same category: [name_f]Amaris[/name_f], [name_f]Lucine[/name_f], [name_f]Diana[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Selena[/name_f]/[name_f]Selene[/name_f])
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Nova[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]/[name_f]Celestine[/name_f]/[name_f]Celestia[/name_f]

Now for middle names, this could be anything, but I don’t know your situation but the middle name spot could still be the right spot for a name that has personal significance for you, that could be someone or something, anything really. Other than that, these are some of the combinations I can come up with:

[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_u]Green[/name_u]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_m]Wood[/name_m]
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_m]Thorne[/name_m]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_u]Green[/name_u]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_m]Thorne[/name_m] (I feel like [name_u]Winter[/name_u] in combination with [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is nicely themed, but therefore a bit too much perhaps?)
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f] [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_m]Wood[/name_m]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Celestine[/name_f] [name_u]Green[/name_u]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_m]Wood[/name_m]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_u]Green[/name_u]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] [name_u]Winter[/name_u]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Nova[/name_f] [name_m]Wood[/name_m]

Best of luck!

[name_f]Adrianna[/name_f], [name_f]Keira[/name_f], [name_f]Maia[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Evelina[/name_f], [name_f]Catriona[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f], molly - these are some names I thought of based on your description of yourself!

Okay girly names:

[name_u]Waverly[/name_u]
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f]
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_f]Arwen[/name_f] (great name for a dancer)
Any of the welsh ending names like the pp suggestion of [name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]/[name_f]Coralee[/name_f]

[name_m]Winters[/name_m] is a nice last name but I also like:

Ashford
[name_u]Ashton[/name_u]
Barrington
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
[name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_f]Merrigan[/name_f] (I knew someone with this surname-a little uncommon but so pretty)
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u]

Sorry if I any repeats. I changed my own name to [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] years ago and I have never regretted it!

Wow so many thoughtful responses!! I love so many of the ideas thrown out there, however, I’m actually not in the [name_u]Winter[/name_u] for a last name camp.

[name_u]Winter[/name_u] is a strong beautiful name, but it evokes cold/bleak imagery in my mind ([name_m]New[/name_m] [name_f]England[/name_f] in [name_f]February[/name_f]… Maybe I’m just drsparate for spring  ).

When I think about your decison to change your name though, I think of it as an exciting fresh start for you… An opportunity for rebirth, joy, and new beginnings.

With that in mind, I think a name the evokes joy and brightness may be more fitting than the beautiful, but dark [name_u]Winter[/name_u].

Here are some feminine spring/summer suggestions with your Scottish/English heritage in mind.

[name_f]Juliette[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Sommers[/name_f]
[name_f]Summer[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Amara[/name_f] ([name_f]Amara[/name_f] means love)
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_u]Kiley[/name_u]
[name_f]Alaina[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] Brightman
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] (because of the mythical [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u]/rebirth)

Some other first names with bright/summery meanings…

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Adena[/name_f]
[name_u]Skylar[/name_u]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]

Wishing you the very best!!

I like feminine but not frilly names on you. Classic, studious ones which might have been granted you at birth in several different decades.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Judith[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_u]Carmen[/name_u]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Justine[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]

For a middle, you should pick the name of someone important in history whom you consider an inspiration and would like to think of as more family than one you were born to. Lovelace, [name_f]Earhart[/name_f], [name_f]Sojourner[/name_f], [name_f]Theresa[/name_f], etc.

[name_f]Judith[/name_f] is actually the first name of one of my favorite professors, so I might have to use that one as a middle name.

Some names I think would fit you nicely:

[name_u]Carmen[/name_u]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Margo[/name_f]/[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_u]Haley[/name_u]/[name_f]Hayley[/name_f]
[name_u]Alix[/name_u]/[name_u]Alex[/name_u]/[name_f]Alyx[/name_f]

[name_f]Bronte[/name_f] is the first name that popped into my head for you. It has a lot of strength, the writer connection, and would suit your appearance. Another idea is [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], both because of the writer and because I feel that it has strength and timelessness as well as femininity. Another choice: The stunning, feminine [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], who was the muse of poetry. On the topic of mythology names, [name_f]Athena[/name_f] would make a great consideration as she was a strong, intelligent goddess, and your resilience and artistic ability would definitely lend themselves to this name.
