I am going to legally change my name, and was looking for some feedback.
Last name will most likely be my mom’s surname, Shaw.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - This is my middle name, so I felt some connection to it. However, my brother’s name is Jack, which might be a bit much because of Titanic. Plus [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] is too short and doesn’t flow, imo.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]- This has been a name I’ve loved for a long time. [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are also family names on my dad’s side, so it feels like I still have that connection even though I’m getting rid of his surname. I love the nickname [name_u]Jo[/name_u] like [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women, and even [name_u]Joey[/name_u] (I used to be really into [name_m]Dawson[/name_m]’s Creek haha). I’m not too keen on [name_u]Josie[/name_u] though. [name_m]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] - Another classic I really like; I think its harsher sounds balance out [name_u]Shaw[/name_u]. I like the nicknames [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Mae[/name_f].
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Willow[/name_f] but this seems a little less trendy, and I like that its vintage.
[name_f]Louise[/name_f]/[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] - I think I am inspired by [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women haha. I don’t think I can use [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] because my grandpa got remarried to a [name_f]Luisa[/name_f] that my mother hated, but [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] was my grandpa’s mother’s name so it has some connection. Maybe as a middle name?
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] - I really like this short and sweet name; however i am not a huge fan of [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] and don’t know what else it could be short for. [name_f]Tess[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] runs into each other and doesn’t flow.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] - I know a lot of Sophias/ Sofias/ Sophies so I don’t think I will use this as I don’t want another extremely popular name. However, I think it shows that I like the ph sound found in [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
[name_f]Nephele[/name_f]/ [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] -names I probably wont use because they are a little too out there, but again I love this type of sound, plus the Greek mythology behind them.
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] - I really like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], i think its classic and quirky at the same time. However, I don’t know if it necessarily fits me; plus Scooby Doo references.
I also love Welsh and Irish names, but probably would not be comfortable using them since I am American.
Thank you to anyone who has read this haha. I’m looking for all combos, suggestions, comments, whatever. I am excited to start my life with my new name - just need to figure it out first. Thanks
I love the idea of using [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] as your surname. Is it still your mother’s surname or does she have the same surname as you do currently? Either way, I think its a good choice.
I like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a first name, but it doesn’t sound like you do, or at least for you there are too many other connections, so I would disregard it.
The other ones I like are;
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u]
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u]
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] would be lovely and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u], as would [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] or [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u].
Thank you for your reply! I love your suggestions, especially [name_f]Lucie[/name_f]. Usually I like the more traditional spellings but the ie ending makes it really special for me.
I like the idea of making my current last name my middle name. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I don’t like it, it is a way to keep that connection to my dad.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] everything goes well with your own name change
[name_u]Shaw[/name_u] is still my mother’s surname, so it is an obvious connection, which I like. I feel it would be a little odd to choose a random surname since I am already changing my entire name lol.
You have made some beautiful combinations! Thank you so much. I honestly love them all; its just about determining which one “feels right”
Of the names you listed, the ones I like best with ln [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] are [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Tess[/name_f], though I agree that it runs together with [name_u]Shaw[/name_u]. Maybe it could be short for [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f], or [name_f]Esther[/name_f]? [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] would be a great full name.
Since you like the ph sound, I’ll also suggest [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f].
I’m just a teen but teased for my name for a long time, congratulations on your name changing!
From your list I love [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] the most, and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]/[name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] is cool.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - I think the longer versions of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are pretty, such as [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f]…
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] / [name_f]Nephele[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] is beautiful!
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] - I think it can be shortened to [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f], not sure if that’s your style & [name_f]Thessaly[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] flows well.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] - [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] comes to mind when I think of -ph- name.
[name_f]Nephele[/name_f] and [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] are beautiful, not sure if people would pronounce / spell them correctly. I think you should go with the one you love most. Good luck!
I like [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u]! I think [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] balances out [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] very nicely.
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is definitely growing on me, and its definitely an underused classic when compared to similar names like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Katherine[/name_f].
I just worry some people think it’s too harsh or old lady sounding, but then again who cares what they think haha
First of all, FANTASTIC taste in names! Second, congratulations on your name change. I’ve been seriously considering changing mine for almost a year, but I’m not sure what I will decide.
On to names…
What about [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]? Both are wonderful names. I know you like the nicknames [name_u]Jo[/name_u] & [name_u]Joey[/name_u], but if you like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], you could use that as a nickname for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. Another was to get to [name_f]Tess[/name_f] is [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]. It’s a bit of a stretch, but I think it works.
All great names on your list, can’t go wrong with any of them! Best wishes
