Name Choice Questions

The only name my husband and I can agree upon for our second daughter is [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]. I realize it’s a nickname for [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], which I like, but he doesn’t. So I’m almost pretty much resigned to having what’s typically a nickname as a first name. I do like how it sounds with my oldest daughter’s name, [name_u]Mischa[/name_u]. We had the same issue with her name; we were literally searching for a name that we could agree on a few days after she was born. Also, my first name is [name_u]Piper[/name_u], so [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] is similar although long i sound vs. short i.

[name_f]My[/name_f] questions are:

  • Is it too similar/too much of a tongue tie with my name to fit into our family?
  • Middle name ideas? [name_f]My[/name_f] other favorites are [name_f]Millicent[/name_f], [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f], [name_f]Liesl[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f]/[name_f]Magda[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] (1st daughter is [name_u]Mischa[/name_u] [name_f]Noelle[/name_f])
  • Is [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] too much of a nickname to be taken seriously as a first name?
  • I don’t like trendy/popular names, even though my own name [name_u]Piper[/name_u] to my utter surprise is rising in popularity. Because of the Middletons, I’m afraid it will be looked at this way, although since we can’t agree on another name, I’m not sure I care that much…but what are your thoughts on the trendiness factor?

Thank you for your comments! I’m 34 weeks along, and we said we would go into this birth better prepared, name wise! =)
