Name conflict...help!!

I love the idea of using the name [name_m]Dex[/name_m], possibly [name_u]Dexter[/name_u]. However, about five years ago [name_m]Dex[/name_m] was my second option to [name_m]DAX[/name_m] which I ended up naming my sphynx (hairless cat)! We still have [name_m]Dax[/name_m] so I don’t know if I should even consider [name_m]Dex[/name_m]/[name_u]Dexter[/name_u]. We don’t call [name_m]Dax[/name_m] by name a lot but when we do we usually call him by Daxxie (came from my youngest son). What if we called [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] by his formal name at home and just used [name_m]Dex[/name_m] outside of the house?

Does [name_m]Dex[/name_m]/[name_u]Dexter[/name_u] sound good with brothers [name_m]Tanner[/name_m] [name_m]Graham[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Cruz[/name_u]?

More than likely he will be [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] or [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] [name_u]Jesse[/name_u] (after my grandpa)

I think [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] is a lovely name and [name_m]Dex[/name_m] is a super cute nickname. I really don’t think you should hesitate just because your cat is called [name_m]Dax[/name_m]. This is your child after all and he will be with you beyond the days of your cat (I mean that in the nicest possible way!).

[name_u]Dexter[/name_u] also works great with [name_m]Tanner[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u]

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you remember the scene where [name_u]Indiana[/name_u] [name_m]Jones[/name_m]’ father brings up how they named him after the dog? I don’t think you can name your son something so close to the cat’s name.

It’s a great name, but I don’t think you can use it.
