I used to hate [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] when [name_f]Barbara[/name_f] Kingsolver used it for a character in Flight Behavior, I hated it. Thought it was pretentious, made up-sounding, and unnecessarily florid, like Kingsolver’s character Dellarobia (although [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] was also made up/popularized by [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]).
Now that I’m reading about [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Delia[/name_f] as nicknames, [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is appealing to me more and more.
[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], on the other hand, will probably NEVER appeal to me.
I’m in the same boat. I never used to care for [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and considered it outdated (though I love [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] lol) but after hearing it used on American Horror [name_u]Story[/name_u] as one of the main characters, I’ve fallen under its’ spell and have come to like it. Now I can’t believe I used to not like it.
I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] but not [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]! I think it’s because I prefer [name_f]Cordy[/name_f] to [name_u]Corny[/name_u]. :-/
My [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] combo was always [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f].
Can’t say I have this problem with [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]… I actually don’t particularly like it or [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. They just sound a little too harsh to me.
I have had ‘name crushes’ on names I previously disliked though, and it’s a strange feeling.
I’ve loved [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] since I read [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables at age 9 or 10 I used to be totally in love with it, but recently it’s taken slightly more of a back seat. I’m actually finding myself favouring [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] at the moment! It sounds very mysterious and pretty and ‘nature-y’ somehow to me!
I’m kind of all over the place with [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. First I loved [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], disliked [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. Then I fell out of love with [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], and into it with [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. Now I’ve rediscovered my love for [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], and I still really like [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. So I suppose I should never name a child either, because I could end up changing their name weekly, lol.
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is at the very top of our list if we were to have another girl. I started with [name_f]Cora[/name_f], but my husband feels it’s too snobbish. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] (with my middle name [name_f]Jane[/name_f]) leads to so many options for her…[name_f]Delia[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_u]Cory[/name_u], CJ. I also sucked myself into the “same letter” game with all of my children. [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], and the future [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. I’m loving it!
I knew a [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] when I was younger, and I hated the name. I thought it was so harsh and ugly, and I couldn’t imagine ever liking it. Now, I find it a class act. It’s beautiful, fluid, sophisticated, and sweet. It’s really a gorgeous pick, and one I myself would make. Plus, [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is the sweetest nickname.
On a side note, I also dislike [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]. It reminds me of cornucopias.
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is a character from [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables. It is unique and if you like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] I say go for it.
I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cora[/name_f]/[name_f]Delia[/name_f] but really dislike [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], makes me think of [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and the Chocolate Factory and corns on your feet, ugh!
I don’t mind either Cordelia or Cornelia, but I quite like moon names, and Delia, a possible nickname for Cordelia, is another name of the goddess Artemis, who is a moon goddess, so it’s grown on me. But Cornelia has been forever stuck on my favorites list, thanks to the character in the TV and book series W.I.T.C.H. (A guilty pleasure).
[name_f]Moon[/name_f] names are neat. I’m starting to love [name_f]Diana[/name_f] (“moon goddess”). WDYT of it?
I like [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], too, in addition to [name_f]Delia[/name_f]. [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] is a character in the 3rd [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] book that the kids and I are reading right now, and I really like it despite its masculine sound.
[name_u]Haven[/name_u]'t checked out the W.I.T.C.H. series yet but it sounds like it might be fun.
